Pros: 1: Seasonic has been cranking out great PSUs for decades. They were the OEM for some of the best PSUs released by other manufacturers, and are a fixture in the workstation space and for critical computing for a reason. They've never designed a bad PSU. Not once in their history. I know they don't seem as romantic as an RGB "gaming" unit, but that's not the point. This is a power supply. The cleaner and more efficient it is, and the more solid, the easier a time your motherboard has sorting out the power delivery. That does make a difference, and at the edge of performance reason, the difference is massive. This isn't a toy. This is an enterprise-grade PSU in drag, and that's why it's worth buying. You're going to have this for thirty years if you like. 2: THANK YOU for the ribbon cables. That's the way these cables need to be manufactured, and the insulation, wire gauge, and connector orientations are wonderful. A ribbon is much easier to route. Not every cable needs to be round. We've been using flat cables for over forty years for a reason. These are expensive cables, with extremely high quality connectors and terminals. 3: On the cable front, they've included just about everything you could need for most builds, including Molex to SATA adapters and even cables with fewer connectors and of varying lengths, which is a huge savings of time and makes management much easier. 4: NOTABLE: Those airflow features on the side are functional. When the PSU fan kicks on, it's going to pull cool air in from outside the case if you like, or help vent the inside if that's how you installed it, but there's another trick... No matter how it's oriented, once that air starts to flow, it pulls warm case air into those vents on it's way out, essentially as a free bonus. Even with a fresh air intake, it's going to help cool the case every now and again. Those things aren't there for style; they're present for FUNCTION. 5: The included accessory bundle is extensive; VERY extensive. You get literally everything you could possibly need for managing those cables. No going to the hardware store for velcro, ties, or anything of the like. It's all included, and unlike when other manufacturers put that stuff in the box, THIS time you get enough to actually do the job and have leftovers. 6: Did I mention the high quality cables? I feel it neccessary to point out that the way they folded the 24 pin cable laid it perfectly clean in three cases I tried. It just plain lined right up with absolutely no effort in three cases with three different motherboards. My word they must have spent some time deciding just where to fold it in shipping, and just how long to make it, as well as connector depth. Don't let anyone tell you the cables seem cheap. Anyone saying that doesn't know what a quality cable feels like. Period. 7: Finish quality and fit are outstanding. Those terminals are flat and straight and high quality; far better than ANYONE else on the market. That milled aluminum Seasonic badge frenched into the back really adds a touch of "Go ahead... Make our day and stick it in a server..." visual quality. It's a heck of a statement of intended use. I seriously dig that badging. It's subjective, but I think it makes a very nice statement and aligns with my preference for stuff that's built properly instead of built to match fads. Metal braking, tolerances, internal components, and even powder quality are far above anything else on the market. It makes some of the most expensive PSUs on the market feel flat-out cheap. You cannot go wrong with this beast.
Cons: I guess I wish the silver grille trim was brushed or matte finished instead of chrome? That's just personal preference. It's easy to pull, and I can wrap, powder, or paint it as required; though powder really doesn't like chrome. Whatever. That's a subjective criticism.
Overall Review: It's essentially perfect.
Pros: I was looking for a high quality, most energy-efficient and SILENT power supply, and this is it. I originally considered a fanless version but this one turned out to be better because it has been operating without a fan running anyway in the hybrid mode and it will turn on the fan when needed (not likely for my workload). For the fanless one, I might have to worry about the buzzing noise others are reporting and the fact that it might overheat without a fan.
Cons: I paid more money for this PRIME Ultra version because it's supposed to better than the PRIME version and also includes a Power On Self Tester and a SATA 3.3 adapter as advertised. However, when I opened up the box these items were missing, even though the cartoon box clearly states that they are included. Also see: https://seasonic.com/seasonic-presents-the-prime-ultra-power-supplies " Customers will find new additions in the retail box of the upcoming PRIME Ultra Series. Seasonic has included a PSU tester in the box that will let consumers perform a quick and easy jump start on the power supply. Each PRIME Ultra Series power supply will also ship with a SATA 3.3 adapter." Knocking down two eggs for the false advertising.
Pros: -No problem setting it up -Documentation was decent -A lot of cable choice,s -can easily power 8x8 CPU power -Can easily power two PCIe -5 total CPU/PCI-E ports! -4 total IDA/SATA/Molex ports -Beautiful quality, it's a shame to hide it in a case -Sexy packaging, it was fun to debox
Cons: -No cons that I can think of
Overall Review: I just helped my son with his first build. It's been a rough build. I've never had any problems with building computers prior to this. After a ton of troubleshooting we had a bad mobo (gigabyte). Swapped that out for an MSI then it only ran for 4 hours (brand new PSU died, EVGA). With both failures I didn't want to stick with the original choices and I thank Newegg for standing behind those RMAs. I still love you newegg. Diagnosing an intermittent PSU is a PITA. I had a different PSU from my computer so that made it easy. I had to run it under loads, no problems with my enermax PSU which is 7 years old! (I miss enermax, can't find them for sale). Put the EVGA PSU back in and it failed in short order. Computer would shut off randomly with a click from the PSU. So I decided to not get an EVGA PSU replacement. I upgraded to this Seasonic. I describe it as "heirloom quality". I'm pretty sure it has a good chance of outlasting me! I figure my son will be able to continue to use it with his new machine through upgrades and many years of service. Our build is: MSI MEG ACE z480 Intel 10600k RTX2080 m.2 NVMe 1 tb (WD black) Thing boots cold in like 2 seconds. PCbenchmark put us at top 8% overall and we haven't even overclocked it yet. Under load we're only pulling 400 watts with everything running so perhaps could have gone lighter on wattage but then again this is future proof for any peripherals he may want to throw at it in the future.
Pros: Hybrid "passive" mode, doesn't run fan unless under high load. Very low ripple on the rails, high efficiency, full modular... 12 year warranty.
Cons: The recommend you mount it upside-down (to aid convection) for hybrid(fanless) mode, but it doesn't have screw threads to mount it the other way... Seems like a dumb oversight, and would have been easy to add. All the cables are a little on the short side. I would rather pay more and have a set of longer cables included, or at least be able to order an cable pack with longer runs.
Overall Review: Overall it's really good, but a few oversights means 4 eggs not 5.
Pros: Setting up the new build was a breeze knowing that the voltages coming out of this PSU almost didn't budge and were right on target. Using an external DMM, I measured less than 10mV (0.01V) voltage variation on the 12V rail during power swings of approx 400W. The 5V and 3.3V rails were also very steady. My old power supply would vary by as much as 0.3V at times. It has a button for hybrid fan control mode on the back, which lets the fan turn off with low load. This is the quietest PSU that I've owned. Most of the time for me, the fan is off. The warranty on this guy is 12 years, so you can feel pretty safe about the quality of the components inside.
Cons: It looks great, but the colour scheme didn't match my build.
Overall Review: The 24 pin cable has some weird extra wiring (probably for some control feedback and interference suppression), which means that you won't be able to easily put on custom sleeving on the stock cables. If you want sleeved cables, then extensions will likely be your only option without voiding the warranty.
Pros: +latest seasonic 2020 prime platform +1000 watts +fully modular +NO INLINE CAPACITORS! yay! +most of the cables are sleeved in some sort of soft, flexible silicon / rubber sleeve. they look like they're sleeved cables but without the mesh. only the 24pin is grouped up in a mesh wrap but it's still flexible. +fan button is nice. even though i'm running it in hybrid mode, its nice to use to test to make sure the fan works if you never stress the system hard enough. though my 3090 fe makes sure my system is stressed enough lol
Cons: seasonic only rates the fan for 50,000 hours (5ish years) at 40c. even though the power supply has a 12 year warranty. since prime is seasonic flagship, and the price of it, i would prefer to see a more durable fan, like a double ball bearing, rather than a fluid bearing that they also use in their more mainstream focus series. i'm sure in hybrid mode it will last awhile, and the overall 12 years warranty, but for being a flagship series, it would be nice you know?
Overall Review: i bought this to replace a corsair rm850x that was struggling to run my 10850k and nvidia 3090 fe. only way i could prevent shutdowns was by having my 10850k run at intel's stock 125 watts on p1. ampere jugs down power hard and has high transient spikes. toss that in with a decent cpu overclock, you'll need a beefy psu for it. the prime gx is fantastic. able to run my 10850k overclocked again along with the 3090 fe.
Pros: If you want to have high stable overclock, you need clean stable power. This is one of the top power supplies made. I purchased this after seeing the review on HARDOCP where this was the best 1000w power supply they've ever tested to that point. I am currently able to run my 8700k at 5.2Ghz 1.34v. This thing is so power and heat efficient, the fan doesn't even need to spin up in hybrid mode.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Highly recommended
Pros: Silent and low heat efficient and great for power saving long 12 years of warranty
Cons: PCIE power cords for the gpu are little too short for the second one Power cables are not premium quality
Overall Review: I got two version of this power supply one is rev. A1 with 2 big brown capacitors and other one just regular with no rev designated but has 2 big blue capacitors, I have been using both for few months but I recently found the one with blue capacitors, you are not able to turn back on the computer after shutdown for couple mins, you would like to wait for the PSU for like 15 mins, then it would work. Also after the power outage you computer does not turn itself back on(with motherboard bios set to power back on automatically after power comes back). If you are lucky you get rev A1 with brown capacitors, you would have no problems. I have about 6 of the PSU with blue capacitors they are all doing the same.
