For small form factor enthusiasts, the standard SFX power supply form factor has excellent combination of size, power, and affordability. At 100mm deep, however, the standard SFX PSU is also limited in fan size to 80mm or 92mm. While advances in engineering and components have made modern high-end SFX PSUs quieter than ever, there is still inherent limitation with these fans’ ability to dissipate heat at maximum loading conditions while maintaining satisfactory noise profile for users sensitive to higher-pitch sounds. With this in mind, SilverStone has released a “lengthened” variation of the SFX form factor called, SFX-L. With 30mm of added depth, a SFX-L power supply has enough room to fit a 120mm fan, thus its maximum load noise can be not only lower in intensity (via slower fan speed), but also lower in pitch (due to larger fan size).

The SX700-LPT marks another milestone in SilverStone’s pursuit of higher quality and more capable small form factor power supplies. At 700W, it includes all features available from top of the line SilverStone PSUs such as 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency, modular flexible flat cables, all Japanese capacitors and advanced semi-fanless capability.

SX700-LPT

Designed for 80 PLUS Platinum level of efficiency to reduce wasted heat and save on electricity.

SX700-LPT

100% moudlar cable design for easy removal in a case with cable routed and tied down.

Very short cables 2/24/2020 7:03:11 AM

Pros: Power supply seems well made, but unable to know for sure as the power cables were way too short to fit an NZXT H210 Mini-ITX case, so couldn't even get fully installed.

Cons: The flat power cables may be nice, but for the case listed above (NZXT H210) there's no way to get the motherboard cables to reach. I managed to get the 24-pin in, but it was a complete banjo string (very tight), but the 8-pin motherboard cable was a good 2 inches too short to reach no matter how I routed it.

Overall Review: PSU seemed to be well made, but make sure you're putting it in a very small Mini-ITX case or your cables won't reach. Had to return the unit.

Great power in a tiny package - Died in less than 1 year!! 10/28/2018 9:26:17 AM

Pros: Powers everything, even with a defective fan!

So I put this power supply in a BH4 case from Case Labs. Beautiful case! This power supply fits just right in the spot it goes alongside the hard drive cages.

700W!? Not over $200!? I had to try it.

Cons: 1st Year Edit: This power supply DIED after the first year of use. I will NEVER buy another Silverstone PSU again. Right in the middle of using the computer, poof! Everything went off. Luckily, it did not fry my system components.

Original PSU Shipped with a bad fan. I heard a rather loud "ticking" noise when my system went under load. At first, I thought the case was pressing down on the PSU fan. I disassembled the computer a few times to investigate, but each time I could spin the fan until I couldn't. I finally found out one of the fan blades had broken off and it fell out of the psu.

I got a replacement from NewEgg just fine.

Overall Review: Components: i7 6700 @ 4.2 Ghz; ASUS Strix 1070; Total system power from the wall under load: 340W

I really wish someone could just send me a replacement fan for the PSU. I feel like this one has become part of my life now. (Fan spins with the stray blade removed)

Silverstone RMA leaves a lot to be desired. I wound up purchasing a Corsair SF-600, and I have not looked back.

Good product - but horrendous service - see the update... 12/1/2016 9:34:19 PM

Pros: Lots of power in a fairly small box - plenty of cables to run nearly any collection of parts you might want. Handles a 6950X, 4SSD, 2HDD, and a GTX1080 with glorious ease.

Cons: If you are running this in a CaseLabs BH2, you will lose access to one of the 6 Pins if you load up on SSDs.
In itself, not a bad thing..

But the Fan. Oh my word is it bad. Under normal conditions, silent as could be. Any sort of load, be it gaming, folding, rendering, playing minesweeper? Buzzsaw. And a very loud one at that.

Overall Review: They need to fix the fan issue in these things. Fix it, and this is an A+ PSU, until then, this is a fail.

*update*

Well, trying to warranty this through Silverstone... short story? Don't bother unless you can be without your computer for however long it might take for them to get around to sending you a new one (How long to get that new one to you they studiously avoid giving). Emails take about 24-36 hours to respond with the bare minimal response, no cross shipping is permitted - even if you offer to have a security charge placed. If you have a good one? Congrats. You have a good power supply from a company that I normally consider to be one of the best. If you don't, the odds are good you won't, you will have fan issues: Might as well go shopping someplace else. Have a significant amount of money invested in my CPU (6950X), and if a vendor can't be bothered to take care of the customer, well, then that is a vendor I can't do business with. So? Moral of the story? I have a 150 buck paper weight, I am looking at another brand, Corsair I have a decent history with...

Used for NAS 11/28/2016 9:43:45 AM

Pros: There's just no competition for a smaller power supply to have the type of output and performance as this unit. When you are going small, you are very limited with your selection and that's where this unit shines. Wattage and efficiency very comparable to my other ATX units. Has been running with no issues for months.

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: Nice cable length for smaller builds

Great Power Supply! One of the best SFX PSU's on the market! 11/20/2016 5:45:37 PM

Pros: Small Compact, perfect fir for mini-itx builds. Fairly powerful. Flexible cables allow for easier cable management. Not that loud.

Cons: Wish is cam with a bracket but its not that big an issue.

Overall Review: Not much of a reviewer but i am glad I replaced my craped out Corsair brand psu. Silverstone is still the best in my opinion for SFX power supplies.

New batch has been solid! 11/9/2016 8:56:16 PM

Pros: I ordered this unit back over the summer and was disappointed when I was having issues with the fan 2 weeks in. Complained through Newegg and they put me in contact with the SilverStone RMA team who was very pleasant to deal with (shoutout to David). They let me know that there have been a small number of quality issues with the first batch, and gave me a replacement out of the second batch (that apparently hasn't had many complaints).
Well, I've had this new unit working for the last 4 months now and it's powerful, quiet, and I'm having absolutely no problems. Recommended buy!

Cons: Cable management

Small Powerful Beast! 11/2/2016 10:51:14 AM

Pros: Compact! gives you extras room in small cases for cable management and airflow.
short flexible cables perfect for small cases
very Silent and runs very cool, the fan turns on only when it needs to cool down
fast shipping! Thank you Newegg

Cons: ATX to SFX PSU bracket is not included, but you can buy one if you want to install this SFX PSU into an ATX case, other than that the PSU is perfect!

Overall Review: I was reading on forums about the first batch having a defective fan controller but that was fixed according to the manufacture and new units are now shipping, I'm really stressing this unit and it runs very smooth!

Defective unit or defective design? 7/14/2016 8:13:24 PM

Pros: Runs quiet. Fan never turns on even at full load in a single GPU setup (i7-6700k and Asus 1070 Strix).

Cons: If you run this in a SilverStone case like the ML08 or RV02, expect problems. The PSU fan won't spin up for long (if at all), and seems to shutdown due to overheating due to the higher ambient air temperature in vertical orientation. It looks like they built the unit to have fan spin based on wattage rather than any sort of thermal sensor, which is a major problem in warm SFF cases.

Overall Review: I've encountered at least one other person with nearly identical issues to my own in a SFF forum. Other major components were all at very comfortable thermals (45C CPU and system temps, never above 70C on the GPU), but the PSU still kept power cycling if put under load. I may try the unit once more after returning the bad one, but for the time being, buyer beware!
