Pros: - Used to be good
Cons: - but Google is killing it. No more IFTTT, no more home assistant, no more openHAB, no more anything that's not google. I now have $400 worth of useless-to-me thermostats :/
Pros: Easy to install, can use without WiFi. Just moved intoa new house and didn't have WiFi hooked up yet, thermostat works just fine but will be nice to take advantage of the features that require WiFi.
Cons: None at this point. Only been hooked up fora wel week
Overall Review: Follow the directions when hooking up and make sure the wires are marked before disconnecting then from the old thermostat.
Pros: I like the ability to have it learn. I also like the light-up feature when someone approaches it.
Cons: My son-in-law installed the downstairs unit about one year ago, and did not have any problem. The unit worked great until the end of August. In February, both upstairs and downstairs HVAC units were replaced with 16 seer units. The upstairs thermostat was replaced with another NEST second generation unit. The upstairs unit has had to be reset 3 times and the downstairs unit reset one time, since February. On 1 occasion, the upstairs unit showed a message that the wiring was incorrect! The day both units failed, they both showed "2nd Stage Cooling". Both Condenser units were OFF!!!! The temperature in the house was 84 degrees F. All 4 times the thermostats failed to work, resetting them solved the problem, and cooling began to happen. When the upstairs unit fails again, it will be replaced with a Honeywell that is setting on the shelf by my computer. Maybe, just maybe, the third generation of thermostat will not have the same "I'm on break now, don't expect me to work correctly, but if you need a temperature change, reset me, then maybe I will work again", problem exhibited by both of my second generation units. Also, I have not seen any indication of "Money Saving". With the replacement of 20+ year old equipment with 16 seer new equipment, my electric consumption is down by about 4-5 percent. So much for saving money with a NEST Thermostat!!!!!
Overall Review: I would not recommend this product, unless there is documentation that NEST has fixed this "sometimes inoperable" problem.
Pros: Excellent....simple to use
Cons: I have not one issue!
Overall Review: Easy to adjust as needed!
Pros: Looks cool. Easily programmable. Connects with other products. IFTTT integration. Set it and forget it. Uses motion detector and phone location to determine if anyone's home.
Cons: Takes a week for the 'away assist' to start working. Time interval for server contact can sometimes be 15-20 minutes. Needs more IFTTT options. No geofencing radius setting.
Overall Review: In the first week, I had serious doubts about this product, but I gave it a chance and it's working out quite well. There's an auto-learning function to program a schedule, but I turned this feature off and programmed one manually. I used the manual schedule now and the 'away assist' function. You can connect your phone and it uses your location and motion detector to determine if you're away, as well as family members. It also uses other Nest products like cameras and the Nest Protect to do this too. I recently integrated IFTTT to the thermostat, but it doesn't do much except tell me when it's set to Home or Away. You can use it as a motion detector so it alerts your phone, but this can be delayed up to 20 minutes in some cases. It does take a week to learn your 'away' habits, so at first it will take up to 3 hours before setting itself to 'away' if no one is home. You can always do it manually too. When you're away, it can set itself to 'eco mode' which means extreme low and high temperatures to save energy. The cool thing is that it goes back to regular mode as soon as it detects motion. It even may do this if it senses you're heading home. I kinda like it, and I'm glad I gave it a chance. The only thing I don't like is it has no geofencing radius like other thermostats I've had. You have to rely on their 'away assist' algorithm, which may or may not do what you want it to.
Pros:
Easy and intuitive to use.
Web and phone app access.
Recognizes how you wired it and will show it on the screen.
Web connection allows for weather forecasts on screen.
Adapts to location you choose for installation (you need to provide some info about your home layout).
If two or more are installed, they team up to regulate temperature (a friend of mine did it).
Cons: It has a mind of its own and you have to learn how to deal with it. If you are home sick in winter better you make sure it "sees" you or you will start freezing (that is because it's so intelligent it learns your regular work schedule and goes into low heat when it thinks you're not or you should not be home).
Overall Review: Beautiful. I like to have it on the wall, and love when screen lights up to tell you it's cooling or heating.
Pros:
Super helpful customer service - see other thoughts.
You don't have to do very much for this. Basically, you set it up, it learns your preferences, and knows when you're home either via activity or by connected mobile devices. Easy and comfortable to use.
Cons: None
Overall Review:
My previous thermostat was a piece of **** and definitely needed to be replaced. A sun dial would have been a more accurate gage of temperature than what I had. In any case, I did what you're supposed to and inspected the wires before buying the Nest. Everything checked out so I purchased and waited for delivery.
When it got here I eagerly installed it, set it up, and tried to turn it on. To my disappointment, it wouldn't turn on. I figured maybe it needed to be charged so I found an extra mini usb charger I had laying around and set it up to charge. That didn't turn out to be the case.
I reinstalled it on the thing and it turned on, installed an update, then gave me an error saying there was no power coming to the unit. This is where the good service comes in.
I was on the phone with an awesome guy from Nest who walked me through everything on earth he could think of to get it working for me. We tried everything. I even got out my multimeter for the last of it and we diagnosed that there was indeed something wrong with my furnace. I think his name was Carl spent roughly 3 hours on the phone with me and was super great the whole time.
Turns our, the geniuses that had installed my old bad thermostat didn't wire any of the wires correctly so I just put the wires to the correct places heading to the thermostat and voila, everything worked.
Anyway, great service, great device. A joy to have an use.

Pros: Easy installation.
Learning function
Nest app turning on or off heating. Cooling or just the fans
Cons: Called my local electric company and sadly they werent running a rebate, but the wanted the insignificant in info if they needed to turn off the ac functions?!? Yeah. I'll have to call you back with that information. If the utility company isn't offering me a rebate on purchasing the smart thermostat, why would you need ANY INFORMATION TO CONTROL it?
Overall Review: In response to Stephen K, I have a 3000 sq ft home built in 1983 with full house humidifier and haven't had any issues. My humidifier has a manual control to increase or decrease the moisture in the air. More in the summer and little or none in the winter. I would suspect that the nest thermostat might be defective or improperly installed. The wiring to the wiring ring( what I call it)shows what number of wires. What color is the wires then it coming up with a wiring diagram. There's also the choice to have an ac installer. To install it for you for a fee of course.
