Pros: The VivoBook K571 packs a lot punch with it's i7-10750H CPU and 16GB of 2666 RAM. The IPS display is impressive running at a 120 refresh rate. Win 10 shows that there are 4 slots for RAM which means 2 modules could be added. CD Mark shows decent read/write numbers for the 250GB WD Blue NVME drive compatible with a QLC type SSD. The 1TB hard drive is also a WD Blue. The proprietary video configuration runs Intel graphics for low level functions and kicks in the GTX 1650Ti when it's needed. Although in a proprietary setup, the GTX 1650 uses standard NVidia drivers and updates. The ASUS software makes updating the BIOS and firmware easy.
Cons: When the i7 ramps up to over 4ghz the laptop dual fans get loud and when updated to Win 10 version 2004 it threw too much heat to keep on my lap despite the dual fans running at the max. The proprietary video configuration has very few adjustable settings and doesn't make full use of the GTX 1650Ti. One RAM slot is hardwired and can't be changed. CD Mark showed disappointing results in the first sequential write benchmark but otherwise was decent.
Overall Review: Don't know why the OEMs are cheaping out the NVME drives in their new laptops by using slower drives that perform like QLC type SSDs instead of the faster TLCs. This is my experience with Dells, HPs, and now ASUS. Despite the ramping up of the dual fans and high heat issue above 4ghz on the i7, the VivoBook K571 is a compelling laptop that more than suits my needs and has an impressive quality display. Have not run any video benchmarks because I won't be gaming on this system.
