Manufacturer Response:
Dear Ahmed A,

It's unfortunate to hear you're not completely satisfied with your laptop. Please ensure your laptop is on a flat hard surface with nothing obstructing the airflow of your unit. To ensure the best performance, we recommend you leave the Notebook plugged into a power socket when you are executing and playing games or when the system is under the heavy load. Leaving your device in the battery mode will limit system performance, with NVIDIA G-SYNC being disabled to ensure smooth visual effect. If the issues persist, feel free to contact me if you have any technical or general questions. You can reach me at cl-adrian@asus.com. Your case for reference is N200610261.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Boot drive was defective 5/27/2020 1:51:16 PM

Pros: The overall laptop design was solid. Ruggedized and well designed for creature comforts.

Cons: The NVMe drive was very sluggish when first powered up and updating started. Within 24 hours, the system BSOD'ed and never recovered. The drive had failed.

Overall Review: With a working boot drive, this machine would be great for rugged and portable gaming/video watching. I would have loved a device like this when forward deployed in the military for my off time. Unfortunately, this one was defective, dobi cannot say how well it would perform.

A Super Affordable Gaming Monsters Laptop 5/23/2020 5:36:51 AM

Pros: -GeForce RTX 2060 for less than 1G
-Super Durable Elegant outer shell
-Quad-Core CPU
-Upgradable to 32GB
-IPS panel 144Hz FHD
-Bluetooth 5.0
-Excellent and reliable software (sound, RGB, automates fan speed and more)
-M.2 NVMe for super fast boot-time and fast shuts down
-I/O ports on one side (my preference also)
-Fast and responsive Keyboard
-2.5' bay for HDD upgradeable internal storage **

Cons: NONE

-No USB-C but buying a USB 3.0 to USB C cable would fix any connectivity issues with USB C port devices.

Overall Review: Overall, it's an amazing machine for the value, it performs during gaming better than expected and 120 Hz+ would make a difference in gaming, not performance but experience, I used to game on a 60 Hz panel and changing to 120 Hz and now 144 Hz panel does make a difference, blur/ghosting is not as noticeable, and from experience, anyone can attest to that.

The heat could be, would be a concern for some during gameplay but it is normal for the system to get a little too warm, and obviously, the RTX mobile gaming GPU is a 90W TDP tricked down from a full-fledged RTX 2060 160W TDP. For sound, the internal speakers won't do, so I used a gaming headset, the software is perfect and the sound quality is great.
CPU is an 8 core 31W TDP which is more than fair for an 8 core mobile CPU for power consumption. Considering my laptop with an i3 7100U is a Dual-Core 15W TDP.

CMOS, the CPU, 12nm vs 7nm would not affect the game performance, the CPU would not be of such an impact of which it could be a night and day difference in terms of "gaming", I have friends who game on 1700X and 5700 XTs. So no worries that just because it's a 12nm CPU, performance would degrade, in my case, performance is boosted by the GPU and the RTX 2060 mobile is capable of running all games at Medium to high settings with super high refresh rates.

** Storage is upgradeable, yes, a 2.5" drive but I prefer an external drive, because of the versatility I prefer portable storage, and I would recommend an SSD with a USB 3.0 enclosure. I have an M.2 512GB drive in a USB 3.0 enclosure with 3 of the games I currently own and with my (gaming) account installed in the laptop I just brought my self-made portable storage with those games w/o having to re-download or had to remove the internal storage from my main desktop. It's all about versatility.

This is a great laptop for great price and performance is amazing, and for the last two weeks I haven't even used my console, I do prefer this new laptop now, 60 Hz cannot match the smoothness of a 144 Hz panel, even at 1080P. While the battery does not last as long during "gaming", it's also good for daily tasks and the runtime will increase as long as there's no gaming involved, I've been using this now at work for two weeks and the image quality of IPS for movies is just perfect, I couldn't be any happier with this laptop.
The two only things that this laptop lacks are easily fixed with a USB card reader and hub and a USB 3.0 to USB C cable (or vise versa).

UPDATE. After hours of playing COD MW with this laptop, I can see this laptop will be more than sufficient for future games, the RTX video card can handle it smoothly and the refresh rate with the settings to so Medium to High makes the game run smooth and no blurs. 1080P is the sweet spot for 120MHz RR.
With so many updates for games, currently, I had to swapped my 512GB portable HDD for a 3TB HDD, I mean 200GB just for COD/MW, a bit too much but it's necessary.

Definitely, the best gaming laptop for the money when compared to others and its hardware, RTX 2060 for $$$$, great price.

Heat break(?) 4/27/2020 8:43:26 AM

Pros: I was able to perform light video editing and rendering tasks no sweat. Any game that was even decently coded ran beautifully (44+ FPS basically at all times) over the core pairing (3750H + RTX2060). The RTX chip has the encoding ability necessary to make this laptop viable for Twitch streaming right out of the box with OBS and a headset (internal mic isn't amazing). As many others have mentioned however, Heating is an Issue. I dont think I can underscore that enough, see cons.

Cons: Without an external cooler the unit was benchmarking AAA games in the high 80s to low 90s on CPU, and high 70s to mid 80s on GPU. I consider 85C to be the tMax of most silicon, regardless of mfg spec, so when I I saw these numbers come up week one in benchmarking I went ahead and ordered a beefy cooling pad. The addition of the pad cut roughly 15C from the system in all states except idle, where idle dropped about 8C and stabilized a lot (idle spikes basically gone). So I was satisfied, and with this addition felt that I could stop micromanaging my temp graphs. However, after going to bed one night a couple weeks later, I wake up to the laptop fans running kind of hard in the AM, while on it's cooling dock, and go over to check on it. Upon opening the lid there was no graphics driver response, black screen. So I performed a hard reboot. After loading back in, hardware monitoring showed GPU core and memory clocks holding at 300 and 405 MHz respectively, which are the safe-mode clock values for many cards in their lowest power state. This is aberrant against the units normal behavior, as typically in Performance the graphics driver will actively tune these clocks to manage heat and load values efficiently, and even in Silent mode the clocks tune higher than those numbers, and this was no longer happening.

My stomach sank, knowing that I have owned the laptop for literally just over 30 days and can no longer RMA it.

Overall Review: As of right now, the unit cannot load HD video, or games. I can browse the desktop fine, which is probably because the desktop rendering is handled by the 3750H Vega chipset instead of the RTX2060. How appropriate of this machine to burn up randomly, in the middle of the night, with pristine cooling augments, just in time for the RMA to fall off. Thanks Adud.

Wonderful notebook for gaming with a very few small misses. 4/26/2020 5:05:29 PM

Pros: This laptop comes with some amazing components. Ryzen R7 3750, RTX 2060, and 16GB DDR4. Can't complain about that for a laptop. I really love the RGB keyboard. This makes playing a quick game at night easy and it looks awesome. The Windows10 has been modified by ASUS to load very quickly. The expandability is great with the ability to upgrade the memory to 32GB, add a second hard drive or SSD, and I would guess that the battery could fairly easily be replaced if needed. Lastly, the case has a great design and the touchpad works very well with what appears to be microswitches in the corners so double tapping isn't required. Red Dead 2 worked great on this machine.

Cons: I have a few cons but most could be easily fixed. The first and a major gripe for me is the lack of a manual in the box. There's the laptop, the power supply and cord, a warranty card, and a simple guide that shows where to find the screen, keyboard, USB connections, and power. That's it...

I needed to go on YouTube to figure out how to access the interior because I couldn't tell if I was going to break something while attempting. Once inside I realized that I had space for a second hard drive or SSD and that there was a second memory slot. These things should've been covered in a simple owners manual.

The second grip was with the RTX video card. I attempted to use the ray tracing that is supposed to make this card great and got single digit frames per second. Not sure if this is powerful enough to handle that kind of processing.

Overall Review: Overall I love this laptop even with a few gripes. It's more than powerful enough to handle every game I threw at it as long as I kept the ray tracing option turned off. It has great expandability and appears to be easily serviced/repaired.

I almost forgot. It comes with a great warranty too.
