Can these be used in lamps and ceiling lights that usually use 40 watt bulbs?

Yes, as long as they use a standard bulb base. They say not to use them in enclosed fixtures due to heat but I have them in both lamps, enclosedlight fixtures, and have used them in ceilng fans as well. They seem to be brighter than a 40watt bulb so they were too bright for my ceiling fan (which used a 25watt bulb) in the room that I had them in. But if u had a big room with a high ceiling I could see using these bulbs. Otherwise you could use the dimmable bulbs and just keep them on a lower setting, or buy a lower watt.

Question 2

Is it safe to use this in a bathroom above a vanity mirror? The shower does generate steam and the bathroom is therefore a damp area.

Dravid ,,No problem whatsoever ;-) Moisture has no affect unless of course it gets in the socket(highly unlikely). Think Vehicles in the rain? I replaced all my old bulbs (12) with these nearly 1 year ago & Not one has ever failed to light. But you have to get use to them taking 1-2 seconds to light as "Instant On" technology isn't available yet with this type of LED. We have seen a reduction in our electricity bill too! Plus the fact that LED's give off hardly any heat(can touch them anytime when lit), which is why the old type(incandescent) cost so much more on the electric bill as 80% of the light is lost thru heat! Buy them now & start saving. Forget about thinking small time, look towards the next 10-20 years & take more vacations with the savings ;-)

Are these OK in a totally enclosed fixture?

I cannot see why not. They use alot less electricity and give off very little heat. I would still follow the manufacturers recomondation though.

How do I contact SunSun for replacement of a defective product? My bulb quit in less than 6 months. Not much on their website, just a foreign phone # and an email address.

I'm a buyer like yourself,  one of the bulbs I purchased only lasted 1 month. I won't buy again
