Question 1

According to power supply calculators, I need a 344 watt power supply (2x12 core cpus, 8x16GB RAM sticks, AMD radeo hd 5450 (low-middling) graphics card). I have a 500W supply and the system is failing to start. Do I in fact require higher wattage than this?

Have you tried connecting the monitor to the onboard graphics to see if you get anything? Try with and without the RadeonHD installed.

How is the memory installed? Do you have 4 dimms installed for each CPU or are all 8 dimms installed into the dimm slots of just one of the CPU's?

Why are you using offboard graphics? What are you trying to accomplish with this build?

When you say failing to start. At which point does it fail? Does the system at least POST, etc?

Will this fit 2 AMD Phenom II X6 1090T's?

No it can not the Phenom II X6 1090Ts are socket AM3 this motherboard is socket G34 you will need a AMD Opteron 6100/6200/6300 cpu and a cpu cooler that fits the motherboard the Noctua NH-U9DO A3 is a good cooler if you can get it and if you are using a case that fits it.

Question 3

I have 2 processors - Opteron 6100 and 6200.
Each works fine as single processor in CPU1 socket.
When I put both into CPU1/CPU2 sockets then my MBD will not POST (Power LED DP3 remains OFF).
My BIOS version is 3.5 
Question:
Is this an issue with my MBD or mixing of 6100/6200/6300 processors is not allowed on this board?

I would call supermicro on this. The two obvious possibilities are:

1) Unlike processors are not supported.
2) CPU socket 2 is bad. The pins in those sockets seem very delicate.

I plan to buy this motherboard. But I need clarification on the meaning of phrase "Raid 5 optional". I plan to setup a server with Raid 5 configuration, but these words makes me wonder if I need more hardware in addition to the MB to make raid 5 work with this MB? Can someone clarify this ?

Would this motherboard be fit for gaming? I plan on purchasing four GTX Titans, and I want to know if they would fit, and if the two CPUs would greatly help with gaming

Yes they will work. Making game comes from a workstation. You can SLI them. You can game on them. Only down side is that the memory will work slow on ECC registered type rams as CL 11. You can get ECC unregistered to reduced slowness. It all driver that does the work of what it needed to be done. But you can't put 4 Titan on this board. The titan are PCIex16 slotable type of connections to be seated on to a slot. You can add three titian. This board have 3x PCIe 2.0x16 slots. But you will need a three way SLI connections. AMD CPU Opteron runs just about a phenom as a gaming solutions. Best is 2.8GHZ level and above. Anything slower than a 2.6 will be to slow to preform.

Is this motherboard compatible with Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials? I would like to use this mobo for a new server build for my small business.

Hey, I was going to use that, but my needs didn't call for it. I wound up using windows 7 Ultimate and works great.

From everything I read 2012 essentials will work though. But keep asking around. Like I said, I'm not using it. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Question 7

I bought this and the NZXT H630 Case. The case does not have the required mounting holes. Can anyone recommend a case that this and at least 6 3.5 HDDs will fit into? Having trouble trusting the cases that say they fit EATX after this one not.

I purchased the following case for the same board you are using.... "Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Blue Edition - High Air Flow Full Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and All-Black Interior".  The case is excellent! Board fits great in the case... plenty of room to work with... I have six 4TB drives in there now and one 500GB drive and there is still plenty of room left in the bays.

Does the on-board LSI raid controller have an option for a battery backup to enable the write through feature?

The onboard controller is a native SAS meaning no cache and therefore no battery. The controller does allow write through and disk caching. The feature you are looking for if I had to guess is called write back. Write back allows the controller to cache it's write process into the memory of the controller. If you want to protect the write cache from deletion in the event of power failure then you use a battery and enable the feature called Write back with BBU. Then your controller can finish the write out of the cached data after the machine is started and the firmware initializes on the controller. To answer your question NO there is no battery backup or cache but the write through feature doesn't require it. Write through simply moves the data directly to the hard drives cache buffer only when you enable disk caching.

What power supply are you using? Does this require a proprietary power supply or will any ATX power supply with dual 8 pin connectors work? (e.g. Corsair AX860)

I'm trying to install A Raid 10 With 4 2 TB HDDs, It's only allowing me to use 2 of the 4 TB's, Will this motherboard with with a EFI/UEFI Boot ?

No EUFI, bios only. So if you have a raid controller or are using the onboard you are only going to get the native bios support for boot.
