SYBA PCI to Firewire 1394a 2+1 ports controller card (VIA) Model SD-VIA-3F

Pros: It does exactly what you would expect it to. No hiccups or problems here. Speed seems to be the same as any other Firewire ports I've used before.

Pros: 2+1 ports, doesn't try to overstress the PCI bus (i.e. 4+1 ports is too many). small footprint, great price.

Cons: No pin headers on board, but the holes are there to add my own if necessary

Overall Review: Plugged in and recognized automatically by Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64 (on Asus M2A-VM). Works perfectly with my Maxtor One-Touch external enclosure. Perfect addition for mini-ATX mobo that didn't have onboard Firewire.

Pros: Simple and easy! the best part is you can solder in a 10 pin header and make the internal 1394 work with your front panel. thease are easily removed from an old ATA disk drive or other PC card. look under the internal connector and put it in the ten holes.

Cons: Not one now that I've put a header on it

Overall Review: If you put a header on it, make sure you clip the correct pin for the key then put your connector on correctly. I've only bought from Newegg for +8 years now. never a problem. ever!

Pros: Installed very easily, not one problem. Turned on the computer and it worked fine, no drivers needed.

Overall Review: The instruction manual does not really give you any help, especially with drivers, it simply says to have your OS installer disc near you. For me, it worked right as I plugged it in but I am not sure if this is the case with everyone.

Pros: Very cheap, plugged it in and it worked instantly. Using Vista. Great solution for those of us that might have older external hdd's and are without a firewire port on the comp.

Pros: quick and easy install, works. im not sure what the other reviewers' problems were and why they had so much trouble with installing it but this one slid right in and fit perfectly. and on that note NEVER FORCE ANYTHING ONTO YOUR MOTHERBOARD LIKE THAT! if you have push it until you hear a snap or you have to modify it and "make" it fit then you're either doing something wrong or you have the wrong card. newegg got this to me i think in about 36hrs. it was weird i woke up went out on the porch and there it was just sittin there. i wasnt expecting it till about monday, weirrrdd.

Cons: doesn't come with a screw to hold it in place.

Overall Review: im not sure why they put an internal 1394 but the other ports work so thats all that matters. i got this card to back up a computer that hasnt been running the way it should, getting ready to format it, theres 124GBs to back up and at first i tried my western digitial 500GB ext. hdd via usb2 but that only xferred about 13.5GBs in roughly 5 hours. i felt running it straight for the 31hrs or so would be too much stress on my hdd so im using an older 160GB acomdata via 1394 and so far, that one is doin a lot better. ~6.5GBs in ~2.5 hours i might post an update review after ive had it a while. so stay tuned
