Pros: Over 500MB/sec. Sequential Read/Write speeds for SSD. 2 x Lanes of bandwidth for 1000MB/sec. max. bandwidth. Works in PCI-e 2.0 x4 slot. This 92xx generation of Marvell chipsets fully support stable, reliable SATA III performance.

Cons: Works with some versions of Linux but not with others, so check first!

Overall Review: If you want full SATA III speed for your SSD this is a simple, inexpensive option. Install card plus any needed drivers. Re-boot computer and make sure card is fully recognized in Windows Device Manager. After that, you can shutdown and then connect your boot drive. Then power on and go into BIOS. Be sure to select the card as the First Boot device then Save & Exit. Computer will re-boot and should then boot normally to your boot drive which you attached to the card. Connect up to 4 drives and get excellent results for the price (since you never use all drives at once). Works great with SATA II motherboards to upgrade speed to SATA III. If you want to set up RAID or create a fast Hybrid Drive (SSD + a regular HDD combo) spend a few dollars more and get the model SD-PEX40054. It's SSD caching and basic RAID setups both work well.

Pros: The card is inexpensive. The low profile portion helps when you want to build your own form factor NAS. Was able to install pretty easily on Windows. Performance was fine for what I was expecting.

Cons: Had issues installing this with FreeNAS.

Overall Review: It's an okay card especially for the price point.

Pros: Low cost.

Cons: The underlying chipset for this family is defective. After a large amount of research, I finally figured out that the 9xxx series of marvell chipset incorrectly handles DMA transfers (bad addressing), which makes it unusable on modern Linux machines (anything with an IOMMU, like 990FX, etc). Basically, the IOMMU hardware correctly denies the invalid transfer request.

Overall Review: Manufacturer provides no Linux support, troubleshooting etc, but still claims product support. Support will be a big waste of your time (even asking simple things like a configuration it's known to work under). Beware. Recent work is being done to develop a software workaround, but that is targetting patches for 3.6.11, and still not yet functional. In another month or two, support might be available via a bleeding-edge patched custom kernel, but mainstream kernel support is ways off.

Pros: Have used these card to expand the number of ports for RAID5 arrays in media servers for several years without failure or any array dropouts. Picked up on sale.

Cons: Would be nice if all four ports were stacked at the tail end of the card to make cable management a bit neater, but I am admittedly OCD about that.

Overall Review: Keep in mind that the attached devices will all share the PCI-E 2.0 throughput - about 500mb/s (minus overhead) in total. This means four SATA III, 6gb/s will get around 115 mb/s when being accessed simultaneously. Plenty for all but the most demanding of situations such as a high-demand webserver, but for the price it cant be beat.

Pros: Worked in Windows 2012 Essentials right out of the box. Using on a newly built/installed Win Server 2012 Essentials with a 4-bay JBOD (iStarUSA BPN-DE340SS) and Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard. As card does not have RAID, there are no conflicts to be had with a motherboard RAID controller. Another of same card in Win7 Pro 64 with same model JBOD and GA-P67A-UD4-B3 motherboard also working well right out of the box. Not using either card for boot drive; just connected to the 4-drive JBOD in each for hot-swap storage drives.

Cons: none.

Overall Review: Would buy again.

Pros: This card is identical to IOCrest, with the same model number. Installation is easy. Windows will recognize it out of the box and will install native Xeon PCI Express controller.

Cons: One it is installed, the moment you remove it and reboot Windows (I'm using Windows 7 64-bit), your system will crash on start up complaining about changes in hardware configuration. Putting the card back in will not resolve the boot-up failure. If you move the card to a different slot after it has been installed and recognized by Windows will also result in a boot-up failure. No amount of start-up repair will fix the issue. Not even going back to Last Known Good Configuration will fix the issue. I had to restore to a backup image created prior to installing the card before I was able to boot my machine back to Windows. Syba/IO Crest need to address this critical issue as anything that necessitates removal or moving of this card to another slot will render your system unbootable.

Pros: Cheap and low profile.

Cons: 300 MBytes / sec is fastest throughput I could get. SSDs go 510+ MBytes / sec directly connected to the MotherBoard.

Overall Review: Great for adding a few old hard drives to your system, or upgrading a very old PC to SATA.

Pros: Onboard (ASUS P6X58D) Intel SATA2 and Marvell 9123 SATA3 PCIe 2.0 x1 (5Gb/s<6Gb/s, duh!) couldn't keep up with my SSD. With this Marvell 9235 card and 2 PCIe lanes (10Gb/s>6Gb/s, good!) my SSD is getting close to what I expected based on online reviews.

Cons: n/a

Overall Review: Probably not as fast as native Intel/AMD SATA 3 solutions, but that's not the point anyway.
