Question 2

Has anyone used this with a gaming system and did it add any noticeable lag between the video and controls of the game? I don't want to buy it for my kids Wii if theyre going to complain about control delay...

From my experience, this device doesn't add any meaningful latency to any gaming setup. The display you use will usually have the highest impact on latency, and most computer monitors have the least latency (10-12ms according to DisplayLag). I've used this a few times and I don't think it adds any meaningful latency than what already comes from the Wii itself.

I speculate that with any video/audio converters, the device is generally either simple or complex. For example, the Xbox One as well as some sound receivers have HDMI passthru's, which all involve more complicated circuitry and add a lot of latency. Simpler circuitry would be something like the VGA converter inside a good computer monitor, which adds negligible latency. (Around the 10ms ballpark is my guess.) This converter is one of the simpler devices, and I suspect that's why it doesn't add any serious latency to the chain.

Problem is, I have no measurements, stats, and in-depth technical knowledge to back up these claims. All I know is that I'm the guy who complains about the TV lagging while everyone else can't figure out what's wrong, I have a strong preference to using computer monitors over TV's because of the input lag, and I have no problem with this converter and any amount of latency it adds.

I want to connect an Atari Flashback 8 and a Sega Gensis Classic to a Vizo 4k HD TV.  Will this take the low res output from the games consoles and make them useable on my high res TV?

It sounds like both those consoles use RCA hookups, which this device supports. I have used this for my original N64 and it outputs at its native resolution just fine on my 1080P TV.

Would this work with a SNES?

Yes assuming your using the RCA red and yellow cables not the RF cable plug the Yellow cable into the green port and it should work just fine however i have not tested it with anything older than a Wii.

Question 5

Will this resolve "no video" I now get on my Slingbox 350? I've been told that because of anti piracy protection, streaming devices, like Slingbox, no longer work when connected by HDMI and the work-around is installing a HDMI - component splitter. Thank you!

Your device is encumbered by HDCP, which basically requires every device in the chain to support it. With some skills, there are ways to work around it, but my preference is to simply not support the standard nor support anyone who uses it. Do some Googling if you have time, and learn about how it works.

I'm not familiar with the Slingbox, but if it supports component YPbPr (red, blue, green component connectors), you can hook that up to this converter, and then connect the converter to the TV or monitor. The only reason you'd do this is if your display doesn't have YPbPr already built into it. HDCP is not supported by YPbPr, VGA, nor other analog video signals.

You'll encounter quality loss, however. Some devices will not output 1080p over YPbPr but even if the Slingbox does, the signal is getting converted to analog, compressed to meet the spec, and then getting decoded and converted back to digital at either this converter or at the display.

Overall, there's a number of solutions and all the best ones are of questionable legality. (You can thank the film and copyright industries for that.)

Will this take composite (Yellow, Red, White) input as well as component (Red, Blue, Green, Red, White)?

No, as you can see in the pic there's no 'yellow' (composit video) input, only chroma inputs.

Question 7

Can't get Wii to output in color and only black/white. Any ideas?

I had to adjust the HDMI Device (Sony DVD Player) to output 720i before I got any display whatsoever from this device.  If it's only displaying back/white, check the cabling to make sure it is connected properly.

For older devices, does this converter preserve 4:3 aspect ratio or stretch it to 16:9?

The aspect ratio depends on the device that is receiving the signal. This device works great to deliver a high quality HDMI signal to the device that can then be altered by the user to fit your needs. It delivers HDMI which IS 16:9 but on an older device that cannot produce a 16:9 ratio, it will fit the device.

I have a Playstation 2 with component cables. The TV has room for one component connection and 2 HDMI connection. The component connection is already used. Will this converter allow me to attach my Playstation 2 to the HDMI port on my TV? THANK YOU!

I'm trying to hook up a Playstation 3 for game recording and the card I will be using has HDMI in only will this allow me to run my PS3 to the new video card via HDMI single? I know I cant do it straight from HDMI because of HDCP protection.

Connecting the device to your PlayStation 3 should be fine and you can probably use the device to view on a HDMI TV.  It sounds like PlayStation 3 has copy write protection for any game played via the system, so saving game stat may not be possible.
