No, but based on the processor used, I would go for higher-capacity, lower performance, lower endurance drives. The processor can't really transcode HD video smoothly at max resolution using Plex reliably, even with 802.11ac networking. A disappointment in that regard. I don't believe SSDs will solve that problem since the transcoding is CPU/network bound. Forget 4k.

Can you mix different size drives with this unit? I want to start with a couple of 4TB drives and maybe add additional 6TB drives in future.

Yes, using a mode called SHR, or Synology Hybrid RAID.  You can google search "SHR Calculator" to use a handy online calculator Synology provides.  Sometimes, depending on your configuration, you will have some unused space.  SHR is also lower performance than RAID 1 or RAID 5 modes, but not enough to deter the average home user.

I noticed this posting states "Up to 20 TB" but according to Synology's site the max internal capacity for the DS415play is 24TB. Is this the same product, or an error in this listing?
