Pros: IRemarkably small and light for such a high capacity - at least for now. Decent performance with USB 2.0. Was about the same speed as my 2 TB Western Digital USB 2.0 3.5 inch drive. I don't have any USB 3.0 ports to test with. Draws power from the USB port. Does not require a separate power line or wall wart. The cable is short, about 16 inches. I call that a Pro rather than a Con because it takes less room and weight than a longer cable and with no power outlet located further away to bother with there's no need for a longer cable. Worked with Linux (Ubuntu 12.04) and Windows.
Cons: No real cons. The cable is different at the disk end from the usual USB cables one finds - presumably this has to do with drawing power as well as data from the USB port. Don't lose the cable.
Overall Review: I had a scare when I first connected it to my Linux computer. Nothing happened. The light didn't go on and Linux didn't recognize it. I thought, What an idiot I am. Why didn't I buy a drive that someone else already tested with Linux? I connected the drive to my Windows 7 netbook and it came up just fine. I couldn't find any info about Linux problems on the net and was about to post a message in the Ubuntu forum when I decided to try again and, Eureka, it came up fine. I don't know what the problem was but I've copied several hundred gigabytes of data to the drive with no problems and had my computer go to sleep (which presumably aborted the drive too since it gets power from the computer) during a file transfer with no obvious data corruption. When I powered up again everything was fine and I was able to restart the transfer. As we programmers like to say, If it only happened once, it didn't happen. :)
