Comments: this is my second toshiba drive and also the second one that does not work so well. basically the drive begins to fail very slowly. you will not notice it unless you scrutinize the very slow decrease of burning speed (any media type but expecially with dual layer discs). hen all of a sudden the drive dies. my second drive already failed for the second time. be wary of this brand. if you burn dvd's especially dual layers then go with nec or pioneer. stay away from toshiba and samsung they are the same company anyways under the tsst brand.

Comments: Of course newegg processed and shipped my order as expected. I installed the dvd burner in my toshiba laptop in less than five minutes and it works like a charm. My laptop recognized the drive and installed the neccessary drivers automatically. No cd or dvd coasters. I have been ordering from newegg for sometime now and I am happy with the prices and service. Comments: Received this drive July 7, 2005 it arrived DOA. Neweggs policy states that it is warranted by the manufacturer. I sent the drive to Toshiba in California. More than 2 months have gone by and I still have not received the repaired drive. When you buy something brand new and it arrives dead, you should get a replacement from where you purchased it.

Comments: With modification, this works great on my Thinkpad A21P in the Ultrabay 2000 slot (where the original DVD-ROM goes). With a tiny phillips screwdriver (and about 10 minutes time) I needed to remove the IBM "caddy" from the original DVD-ROM drive and transfer the side rails and back interface-connector to the Toshiba. I left the Toshiba front bezel on and the drive is working great! Note that the square front-bezel covers the IBM ejection hardware, so now to eject the entire drive from the machine I need to open the drive door and then operate the IBM ejection "lever". No big deal as I think this drive will be staying put anyway. I think you may be able to get the "caddy" hardware from IBM separately, but I couldn't figure out how so I just "borrowed" it from the original drive, which I'll no longer need. I use Nero software and have done 4 burns at 4X my first day with the drive and experienced NO PROBLEM! Thanks!

Comments: On of our users mistakenly got Inspiron 5x00 series with non-removable DVD combo reader instead of writer. I bought this toshiba DVD writer to retrofit into dell nb. Inspiron had slightly different front plate on its cdrom, so it does not fit the best way, but with little bit of pencil graphite on the cover curb it worked well for me.

Comments: I bought this drive to replace my old toshiba drive(sd-r6012) which came with my alienware laptop. The drive fit perfectly and my computer reconized it immeditly. It's a great drive for the price and the fetures it comes with. I haven't had any problems with it burning dvds or cds and it reconizes all of the blank media disks I have used so far. I'm very happy with this drive and newegg.
