Smart Home with Google or Alexa.. Easy to Setup and Use... 1/1/2018 5:29:26 PM

Pros: As soon as you open the package there is a flyer to help you if needed, but setup using the Kasa App couldn't be easier. The bulb looks well made and with no hub needed, it's easy to connect to your Wi-Fi.
LED bulbs last so long and save money using way less power than a standard bulb. The 2year warranty keeps you in use for that and longer.

Cons: None

Overall Review: So easy once you have installed the TP-Link 'Kasa' App on Android or Apple. (Phone or tablet). When you turn on the bulb for the first time or resetting, it flashes 3 times, Wi-Fi finds the bulb, you name it and it finishes the setup. Then you open the Home app for Android or the Alexa App and connect it for verbal control. In Alexa you find the 'TP-Link Skill' and in Google Home, you connect thru "home Control'. I was surprised that the TP-Link skill had such a low amount of stars, it works great. I do make the setup sound easy and it is, but when things don't seem to be connected, restarting and resetting is also easy. It's new to buyers and I personally think the low stars in the Apple Skill is due to not being knowledgeable, people have different skill sets and could get frustrated during setup. Little things can be missed such as signing into your Kasa App after you have created an acct. Creating a Kasa account shows no 'create' acct when you open the program. The work around is to hit 'lost password', go to your email and make a password. Then you'll have your email as your user name and the password you created. If your not signed into your Kasa App it won't be able to connect the accounts, you do need to be signed into the Kasa app.

Smart Home is growing and there are different Smart Home things you can control thru the Kasa App. You can control Smart Bulbs, Wall Switches, plug in outlet controller, Cameras and more. The Kasa App also allows you to set schedules, when on or off, and even how the bulb turns on.. dimed, bright etc. The App also allows you to turn the items in your App on and off from anywhere you are connected to Wi-Fi for most items. An example is setting schedules to look like your home or turn on a light before you enter your home. This truly is easy to setup and use. Once you have setup a few or reset a couple, you will be a pro.

Not having to have a separate 'Hub' to control your bulb is one of the reasons I chose TP-Link, the other is all my other TP-Link products that I'm very happy with. TP-Link is one of the largest manufacturer of PC, Laptop, Smart Home, Routers, you name it, the list goes on. They are a go to manufacturer for commercial needs and you too will love their products. My bulb here is an addition to other TP-LInk Smart Home bulbs, wall switches and plug on outlet switches I am using. Not one failure, not one disappointment in the use of their products. This is not only a recommend to buy, I have to family and friends, who are all enjoying their TP-Link Smart Homes.

Great Smart Bulb that works Great with Google Home 10/18/2017 1:17:12 PM

Pros: - Easy Setup
- No Hub Required
- Looks well built
- Controlled from a smart device with the Kasa app
- Dimmable
- Tracks power usage/consumption
- Works with Google Assistant and Alexa

Cons: - I'd like to see $5 (at least) shaved off the price. TP-Link has always been known for offering great tech for great prices but I feel the smart bulb line needs to be re-adjusted a bit so they can overshadow the more "well known" competition.
- Bulbs have a longer form factor (from top to bottom) than a traditional bulb. This didn't knock any eggs off, but it is something to consider if you are putting this inside a fixture that has zero space above the head of a traditional bulb.

Overall Review: First off, this thing was super easy to install. I downloaded the Kasa app from the Play Store on my Android phone and signed up for an account. I then replaced my traditional LED bulb in my hallway with this one. After being installed for a few seconds, the bulb will blink 3 times letting you know it is ready to be paired. I connected to the app and found the bulb, naming it whatever I wanted (in this case I named it Hallway). Then the app asks what wifi network to use and you plug in the password. It's that simple folks.

After opening the Kasa app you can immediately begin controlling the light. You can turn if off and on of course, but you can also dim it by sliding your finger from left and right on the slider. You can also choose to set it on a preset or edit those presets. There is also a scheduler that can be used to schedule when the light should come on and off and you can customize the brightness as well. The Kasa app also has a Scenes tab that will allow you to group devices (smart bulbs, smart plugs, etc) and customize and control them with that particular scene. As an example, you can group multiple lights in one room and make some turn off or dim when you activate a scene you called 'Movie Night'. I can really see this being useful once I get more lights.

The biggest reason I chose this product is because TP-Link works with Google Home Assistant, which I already had. I also already had the TP-Link HS100 Smart Plug. I can use my Google Home to activate the lights, turning them off or on and can also dim them with my voice. The scenes that you create in the Kasa app can also be used from Google Home to access multiple smart items at once (just as if you were using the Kasa app).

Overall I really like this bulb and hope it lasts for years and years. I love the integration with Google Home and would also like to see more products come from TP-Link that works with the Google Home ecosystem. I do feel the price is slightly steep and a $5-10 cut would make this bulb even more attractive.

*I've also installed the TP-Link LB100 and it works great. I can tell a difference with the brightness between this model (800 Lumens) vs (600 Lumens).

Good product Easy to control with KASA app 5/7/2017 6:31:19 PM

Pros: I used these in a few ceiling fixtures in my home while on vacation. They work flawlessly. I especially like the dimming function.

Cons: I had several power outages while away and it took a few hours before I was able to control the bulbs. I also have a TP Link smart plug that relinked with wifi quickly. I downloaded firmware from the app which is supposed fix the bulb wifi restart delay, but was unable to test it. Note these bulbs are slightly longer than standard led bulbs.

Overall Review: I definitely recommend these bulbs. I have several TP link products and they all work as advertised.

Great product with a few blemishes 4/21/2017 1:43:49 PM

Pros: - Easy setup
- No base station needed
- Can be dimmed from 1% to 100%, in reality you got about 5 to 6 different levels. At least I cant really tell the difference between lets say 80% and 90%.
- Tracks power usage (kind of.. see con)

Cons: UPDATE: After using these for 6 months with no issues TPlink pushed new firmware which completely broke the device. WiFi is extremely unreliable now and the device disconnects very often from WiFi (arp doesnt show it anymore) and the only way to get it back is to power cycle the light bulb itself. Nothing in my setup has changed other than update of the firmware to the lightbulb. Range to the router does not matter either, I can put it touching the router and it will still disconnect. Ive tried different routers and even staticly assigning the address to the bulb. No other device on the network has any issues at all with the wifi. Someone at TPlink also thought it was a good decision to not having a way to downgrade the firmware. So now they broke it, and there is no way to go back. Their customer support is useless (they just make you run in circles). Stay Away!

- Does not work with hidden SSID (have to broadcast router SSID)
- Seems to come on after power loss even if setting is set to "last state" and last state was off.
- A bit pricey, should be about $10 cheaper
- The power usage tracking on this product only compares itself to a 60W incandescent bulb, who on earth has those anymore? I dont think its even legal to manufacture those anymore. It also appears to only track "savings" instead of usage. Id much rather see how many watts or Kw were used in the last 7 days/last month etc, than estimated yearly savings compared to am obsolete bulb that cant even be bought anymore and havent been used in over a decade. Even North Korea uses CFL (no joke, they really do its a state mandate there to save power).

Overall Review: - Overall good product with some questionable design choices, SSID thing and power tracking is borderline useless.
