Pros: Fast setup. Device reboots quickly between major settings changes. Supports all modes I needed (bridging and client modes), also supports bridging with simultaneous AP mode. Included Power over Ethernet adapter work great and lets me run just one cable for network connectivity and power to wherever I place the AP. SMA connector for easy antenna upgrades if I ever need it.
Cons: Doesn't allow wireless MAC modification. No screws included for bolting down the PoE adapter even though it has screw holes for this purpose. But really, who doesn't have a couple screws laying around?
Overall Review: Contrary to other reviews, WEP and WPA work just fine. The settings page is a bit confusing. With WEP, you have to enable one of the key spaces by choosing the bit width of the key you're entering, then enter the key. Otherwise you won't be able to click the text field or type anything in it to enter the key. This is the non-problem problem that other reviewers were having. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. I got what I paid for and would definitely recommend this product. If it had MAC switching, it'd get 5/5.
Pros: Very easy to set up IF you have a wired connection going to it. I have my router in my basement. My bedroom is on the second floor on the opposite end of my house. I have a 100ft. Ethernet connection running from my basement to my bedroom. Since I do not game anymore in my room it's all downstairs and I do not have anything up here except my iPad which is the only device I use now. Before I would only get 1-2 bars on the iPad and it would cut out all the time. Now having this little guy as a access point. Solid 3 bars no lag at all! Was able to hide SSID and set a password which is nice. I wasn't to thrilled about having to use my gaming computer on a nightly basis when I wanted to just chill in bed and cruise the web on my iPad. Now no more pulling my hair when the Internet cuts out. The operation was very simple for me. Just plug and play! I don't get what everyone else is saying and it works perfectly with my moms MacBook so I don't know why the other guy had a problem. I can't wait
Cons: To see the range on this bad boy outside. I'm guessing I will be very pleased. I use this as an access point but you can set it as a repeater, bridge, all other functions which is awesome and for 30 bucks? What more can you ask for. Works awesome with my Linksys router g. Thing is like 2-3 years old I think and runs like a champ! You won't be disappointed.
Overall Review: Those directions are useless. You don't need your certification in networking to configure this access point. Just look at the directions for the log in ip address and you can figure out the iresp
Pros: Overall, Very good. I use this as a client device to bridge a print server. It's web interface works. POE (comes with an injector). Wall mount hooks on the bottom, Seems very versatile in its deployment options.
Cons: For some reason, I couldn't get DHCP to work across this. I contacted support, the telephone number never let me through, they responded in a few days via e-mail and seemed friendly. I ended up using a static IP address rather than the static DHCP lease I had been using. Not a huge issue for me
Overall Review: Overall, this device works very well. It gets good speed and seems pretty stable. For this price, and the features it has, this is a very good device.
Pros: I works as an ap and client. Not expensive. Has a manual that gives setup procedures. External antenna connection allows high gain antenna to be used.
Cons: Client mode is disappointing. I expected to be able to use DHCP to obtain an address from my router and have the gateway and dns automatically discovered. The client mode in this unit seems to allow obtaining the address from the WA500G but you need to add the gateway and dns info of your router manually. I have a similar AP/Client/Repeater/bridge from ASUS that allows you to get the client address from router and automatically gets gets gateway dns info from router via DHCP as well.
Overall Review: I decided to buy a USB wireless adapter and use it instead of the AP/Client. It can't be used as an AP but it works properly under DHCP.
Pros: lots of options. The different modes available are the key to this device.
Cons: the web interface is not intuitive; its bad and cost the device an egg. it does not work in chrome. it opens but none of the options show. configuring as a client requires use of DHCP server on device; bridge mode doesn't support security (I think this is common)
Overall Review: I bought this to connect my entertainment center equipment to my home network in another room without running wires. I assumed (for some reason) the device had more than one LAN port; it does not; my fault of course. Currently I've got my Tivo connected to it and I'll buy a small switch to connect the xbox and others. Once its setup I've had no reason to complain. Now that I've set one up I could do another in 5 minutes easy. The web interface is just poorly designed.
Pros: Includes proprietary PoE injector. Supports multi-mode operation - client, bridge, repeater, AP
Cons: The documentation isn't so great.
Overall Review: As long as your comfortable spending a little time poking around and understanding how this unit works, I think you will like it. I am resold on this unit after spending a day tinkering with all the modes. I initially wasn't too happy, but once I spent the time, very pleased. Initially I had found some conflicting info on the product specs newegg vs tp-link which sent me down a bad path but seems I must have just hit a stale link on tp-link's site that was dated information. I think others having issues connecting to the unit or using it in other modes, just a matter of placement and getting a feel for how it works in the various modes. Don't be too quick to judge this product...NewEgg is probably my favorite online computer retailer, this is a great product once you get used to it. Very happy I don't need to return this unit and does what I need!
Pros: Great value for the price; works great; Using it as a wireless bridge. Can set the transmission power for short-range connections.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Web interface is probably a bit tricky for newbies. Also has Power-over-Ethernet but I'm not using it.
Pros: I have used this as a AP, as a AP Client, as a universal repeater, and as a point to point wireless bridge. It has more modes but I have not needed them. I have about a dozen of them, none have died, all get good reception. I had never heard of TP-Link before buying one on an auction site, I have been buying more TP-Link gear here at NewEgg since these work so well.
Cons: Wall wart, light weight.
