Pros: Space, lots and lots of Space, great for the movie collection.
Cons: none
Overall Review: Beware if you are installing into a MB that only has 150g speed for sata drives. You need to put a shunt onto the jumper pins to lock it at 150 for the MB to be able to see it. WD has the information on their page and its quite easy. It also only has sata power connector, no legacy connection so make sure you have sata power connectors on power supply or get a legacy to sata adapter. Have fun!
Pros: Quiet and lots of storage. I've got 5 so far, no DOA's, no noise I can hear over my case fans. Did not buy for performance, but that's not bad either.
Cons: Having to see reviews by others who obviously don't know the difference between a binary Terabyte and a decimal one. Disk manufacturers ALWAYS use Decimal, the "931GB" is the conversion to binary by the OS, NOT a result of formatting. Just divide the decimal GB by 1.074 to find out the binary value. (That comes from 1.024 *1.024 *1.024 - to account for Kilo, Mega and Giga) 1000 /1.074 = 931.
Overall Review: We are getting exactly what we paid for. Sorry, I couldn't help myself, I've been hearing these comments for years and had to set things straight. It would be nice if things were consistent, but don't (just) beat up on the disk folks.
Pros: Was excited about the power savings. I planned to use as my personal jbod, so wasn't too concerned for speed as energy effieciency.
Cons: Drive ran about 1.5 months. Long enough for me to eventually copy everything onto it. It then started making funning noises. I hadn't heard those noises from a hard drive in 10 years and the last time was bad, so I started copying everything off. Got most of it.
Pros: I have 4 of these drives and thiink they are great for storing large audio and video files.
Cons: So much confusion with the 5400-7200 RPM spec. This drive does NOT vary its rotational speed. But the rotational speed CAN vary by model (i.e., capacity) within the GP series. So the 1T drives may spin at a different speed than the 750G may spin at a different speed as the 500G, etc. Repeat, they do not spin faster when used heavily and slow down when not. Since the manufacturer does not report actual rotational speed, we don't know exactly what the speed of the 1T drives is, but it reported to be towards the lower end of the scale.
Overall Review: There are two main issues that influence speed – rotational speed and data density. If a drive spins faster it can seek faster and transfer data faster. If a drive has higher density, its seek is not improved but its data transfer rate is faster. By providing higher data density, WD has equaled the sequential read/write performance of lower density 1T 7200 RPM drives. But it still lags in average seek. The trend towards higher data density benefits new 7200 RPM drives as new models are introduced (e.g, 1.5T drives have higher density AND higher RPM yielding even higher data transfer rates).
Pros: Nice roomy size, fairly quiet, solid performance so far.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Put this is as a replacement for the main HD. Got the software from the mfr. web site and it enabled large support in XP and cloned the OS. Pulled out the old one and put this in it's place and was done. Works like a charm.
Pros: To keep noise down, I've always limited my HTPC to 1 hard drive. But backing it up over a network as my total disk usage grew to hundreds of gigabytes of audio & video files is problematic; it can take days and the probability of a crash is high. The WD 1TB Green Power drives solved the problem for me. They run so quiet and cool that I can put two of them in the HTPC and it's quieter than it was with one drive previously! Backups now take hours instead of days and don't rely on flaky network connections.
Cons: If the ultimate in performance is important to you, this is not the drive to get. You don't pay a huge penalty to be quiet and cool, but you pay some. For an HTPC, it's a good trade-off though. It's plenty fast enough for everything I ask of that computer.
Overall Review: WD makes good products. I use Raptors in my more performance-demanding computers. I probably own ten WD drives altogether. Never had a failure with one. BTW, I am a disk drive engineer and no, I don't work for WD.
Pros: Very quiet, extremely cool, very large capacity, very low power requirement. I anticipate great longevity and reliability for this drive because of the above. It is also relatively inexpensive.
Cons: Very slow writing as HDDs go. (My internal HDDs cf. are Raptors.)
Overall Review: Far too slow for a main drive, it is the perfect answer for the space- challenged file collector. In an eSata Rosewill case, the drive barely makes it to room temperature! This is the collector's savior.

Pros: Quite, fast, stays relatively cool, and lot of disk space
Cons: None
Overall Review: I use this hard drive in my QNAP TS-101 NAS. Although, it is not on the hard disk compatibility list for that NAS the TS-101 had no problems with this drive at all. From reading the technical data, there might be slightly faster drives with more cache memory but for a NAS on a 100MBps LAN the network is the limiting factor, so that the drive performance is a secondary criteria. In my opinion, this drive is ideal for the purpose of using it in a NAS running 24/7 in a SOHO environment as it has a low power consumption, is quite and does not warm up much.
