Pros: WD HAS RELEASED A FIRMWARE UPGRADE FOR THE DRIVES - This will solve alot of your "drive dead after ~2 months" problems. Check their site, this drive is one affected.

Cons: kind of a pain but at least the drive isnt junk

Pros: really quiet, run cool, fast, good warranty, I have built a few systems with these, single drive setups and raid arrays. never had a single issue with them.

Overall Review: good speed in raid 0, average read usually around 130. Vista Ultimate rates a single drive at 5.4, raid 0 at 5.9

Pros: Ordered two of these back in Nov. of 07, and they are still working great. I have them set up as raid 0 on an Asus P5K-E WiFi-AP edition(Great board), and have had no problems. They are quiet, run cool, and have enough storage for me.

Overall Review: I have just ordered two more (3/5/08), and I will redo my system and set them up for raid 1.System > Rosewill R6AR6 -BK/SL case, Asus P5K-E WiFi-AP mobo, Intel core 2 duo E6550 , G.Skill PC2-6400 1024mb x 4, HIS ATi radeon X1650 pro graphics, Rosewill RP550V2-D-SL(550W) P/S, Asus DRW 1814BLT with Lightscribe, HPw2207 LCD monitor(not from Newegg) MS home w/SP2. Items purchased from Newegg arrived on time, and in great condition. Built and intalled all, and all are doing great. It has been great ordering from Newegg. Thanks Newegg!

Pros: These drives are what WD refers to as an "enterprise" class drive. longer lifespan, quieter and less power consumption. the claim is a 1 million hour life cycle. good luck living that long.

Cons: used in a stripped RAID, the combined sound is a little noisy, but not as loud as some single drives i have had. not really an issue unless you are after a seriously quiet system.

Overall Review: I was suprised at how small the price difference was between these and the standard Caviar drives. and with a million hour life span, you can expect to be swapping these into newer systems for years (at least until solid state drives become cost effective). do the math, these drives are supposed to be good for over 114 YEARS

Pros: Bought this drive as a separate Ubuntu Linux hard drive. Quiet, quick, reliable thus far, no complaints. A pleasure to use.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Do not hesitate to consider this drive for a storage solution, OS drive, or secondary OS drive.

Cons: Known compatibility issue w/these HDDs & Intels new P35 chipset, specificly the ICH9 southbridge that controls the raid controller. It isn't seeing these drives & WD has released a firmware update for them, it won't update for me & the board was the IP35 from A-bit.

Overall Review: On A-bits forums it's mainly having problems w/all Raptor HDDs & any WDxxxxYS series of Caviar HDDs. Do some research first before buying these drives.

Overall Review: No drive manufacturer delivers a perfect drive everytime.. some people mess up their drives installing them.. some are damamged in shipping. I have bought 100's maybe 1000's of WD drives with minimal problems. RAID array died? One drive failing will only kill a RAID 0 setup.. if you run that and it crashes.. thats not the drives fault.. RAID 0 offers no redundancy. How one drive can take out two others would be a new one on me unless it was a RAID 0 setup.

Pros: Western Digital rocks. i have always used western digital drives and i will pay the $5 extra to get an identical western digital drive over any other HD brand.

Overall Review: i have been building custom systems for a few years now and have never had a person had a problem with data loss or hard drive failure on a western digital drive. BUY WESTERN DIGITAL.
