It should work fine. I suggest doing a drive clone from the old to new drive, there's plenty of options for that kind of software online. The clone would guarantee the right format and you wouldn't lose data. Hope this helps!

Yes, it will. Just format it using the disk utility application on the mac. And you can use a cloning app to copy your existing hard drive onto this one. I have a mac book pro 2009.

Hey I am new to this and I bought a DELL  inspiron laptop, Had it a year and two days the hdd went out.  Can anyone tell me if this hdd compatible with my laptop and if it is do I need too purchase the software?

its a good drive ..still have it in my macbook as a secondary hdd for back up..

i wouldn't recording this hard drive a a main drive were the operating system would be install due tot he low rpm...i would recommend a 7200rpm hard drive ...

but seeing it a old dell  inspiron ..will work fine ..you will gave loads of space ...

whats the model of you dell computer ?? be sure it sat compatable

Yes it is compatible. Your macbook's hard drive is SATA I (1.5Gb/s).
So SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) and SATA III (6.0Gb/s) would be compatible because they are both backwards compatible to the previous generations. 
However newer generations like SATA II and SATA III may be bottlenecked by your mac so it if you're on a budget, it would be cheaper to get SATA II(which this hard drive is) or SATA I. If you plan on upgrading in the near future then lean towards SATA II or III for best performance so when you upgrade to a new laptop, you would have an available up to date hard drive.

This question is for all you Mac users out there. I have a late model 2007/early model 2008 Macbook and am looking to upgrade the hard drive. I have already upgraded the RAM to 4 GB. My main concern is compatibility. Will this hard drive work with my computer? Second, is this the best option? I am looking for more storage space only. I usually don't run a lot of programs at once and mainly use my computer for school and multimedia.  Thanks-

I replaced the hard drive in a 2009 MacBook Pro with no problems.  I had complete Time Machine backups and other than taking some time completing the restoration and software re-authorization, everything worked fine and still does.  It would be worthwhile to bounce the question of compatibility off of the Apple Forum as others with your model may have better information.

It should. From my experience repairing laptops all laptop HDs have the same form factor. It you're unsure take out the one in the HP and compare it to the WD.

I'm looking to purchase a hdd for my ps4 at launch. i have the 750gb model of this. I'vebeen tryng to find specs on the ps4 hdd I was wondering if you think this will work with the ps4 no prob?

Yes this drive is with in the spec for the PS4 and should work without issue. Do not forget to go to Sony support to get the firmware to format and load the system software. The firmware needs to be loaded onto a thumb-drive no smaller than 1gb.
