Quiet - In a notebook drive, silence is golden. WD's exclusive WhisperDrive combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest 2.5-inch hard drives on the market. These algorithms also optimize the way a drive seeks for data, which significantly improves power consumption. So now silence (and longer battery life) is golden. Reliable and Rugged - WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non- operational shock tolerance. Tested for Compatibility - We perform tests on hundreds of systems and a multitude of platforms in our FIT Lab and Mobile Compatibility Lab to give our customers confidence that our drives will work in their systems.
Cons: Purchased this to replace a Seagate drive that had the "click of death". I've always used WD drives in the past and didn't even look at another manufacturers' product when making my selection.
I spent a couple hours reinstalling the OS, all the updates, programs, printers, etc and the drive seemed fine. Within a couple days my friend called me and said that his machine wouldn't boot. I slapped in a copy of the UBCD and fired up the WD diagnostics. Sure enough, the drive had failed.
Overall Review: The RMA process was quick and painless, but unfortunately I had already wasted hours on the installation.
Pros: A perfect drive for a PS3 upgrade. A nice, quiet, fast drive for a good price. The 5400 RPM drive is what you want for a PS3 upgrade, anything faster will run too hot. The upgrade from start to finsh will take less than 5 minutes. The PS3 will recognize and ask to format the drive the 1st time you power it back up. The nice part, all of your settings are preserved, and if you have purchased any games from the Playstation Store, you can re-download them for free in account management. The BEST part, you can re-download demos you have previously downloaded - even though they aren't available any more in the PS Store! Convenient and nice!
Cons: None.
Overall Review: If upgrading the hard drive in a PS3, make sure to get a good quality screw driver with a perfect fit. The screws are small and soft. Push in hard and twist firmly. I used some freeze spray (or invert a compressed air can), to cool the screws to make removal for a
Works perfectly in the Playstation 3 console12/22/2007 11:17:14 AM
Pros: Large and quiet, easy to install, full compatibility/no issues when upgrading from original 60GB launch PS3 unit (w/ current firmware 2.10)
Cons: None at the moment specifically regarding the drive; trying to figure out which external 2.5 enclosure would be fully compatible with this size so I can pick up another one!
Overall Review: Waited for this drive to finally replace the original 60GB Seagate which was maxed out. Used the "backup utility" seamlessly, and after installation and formatting, the PS3 shows 263GB/298GB of usable space. I then alloted 10GB and installed a fresh build of Yellow Dog Linux (YDL 5.0.2); no problems. Returned to GameOS and restored my backed-up 50GB of data, and everything's back to the way it was 100% but with an extra 200GB of free space left! Drive appears to be even quieter than the previous one (which was already quiet), and seek/response times in the menus appear quicker. Both could be due to defragmentation from restoring, but overall very satisfied. A good deal, provides an extra 60GB+ of usable free space from the 250GB model, for only a marginal price. Highly Recommended!
Pros: Super fast! Upgraded Dell XPS 1730 laptop's Fujitsu MHW2120BJ to this WD hard drive. Former hard drive performance was 5.1 and now it's 5.4. Fujitsu is 7200RPM drive and WD beats them at 5400RPM!
Cons: Power consumption... doesn't deter me at all.
Overall Review: Dell is now selling this WD drive as default drive for XPS 1730 now.
Works great in Playstation 3 (PS3)5/5/2008 8:52:38 AM
Pros: Much more space. Compatible with PS3. Makes sense if you want to download demos from PSN as the 40GB very quickly reaches its limits. Good $ ratio for this amount of storage.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: This drive fits and works perfectly well in the 40GB Playstation 3 so far. I just backed up the existing 40GB drive to another external USB drive. Switched the system drives in less than 5 minutes. Reuploaded the system from the Sony site to reinstall on the Scorpio through a USB key, and finally restored my data with the backup utility. I was back in business (...) in no time.
Pros: Just installed this on my Macbook Pro and so far it performs perfectly. Extremely quite and no noticeable difference in power consumption. I upgraded from a 100GB 7200rpm drive and I dont notice the speed difference.
Cons: No Cons
Overall Review: This is a great deal at the price point.

Perfect PS3 HD Upgrade5/28/2008 1:39:32 PM
Pros: Purchased for my PS3 as a hard drive upgrade. Put in, PS3 prompted to format new drive as expected, restored data from external backup, everything worked perfect (60gb PS3 model with 2.35 Update). Hard drive runs silent and notice faster menu access, with a lot more disk space.
Cons: None that I've found. See other thoughts for con not related to this hard drive.
Overall Review: Careful with the PS3 HD enclosure, the screws can easily strip if your not careful removing or putting the new one in the enclosure.
Even though PS3 only supports SATA 1.5 and this drive supports SATA 3.0, I'm hoping Sony can update this in the future, which would create a nice speed boost.
Pros: I recently bought this for my PS3, and it was about the easiest thing I've ever done as far as installation goes. It took me a few minutes to remove the old hard drive and install the new one. It's quiet, and boosted my memory from my original 20GB drive to 298GB. Now I have all the room I need to install those larger PS3 games like Devil May Cry 4 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. I've also taken the liberty to re-download those games I bought since I'm no longer concerned with saving vital space.
Cons: None that I can see right now.
Overall Review: Newegg is the single fastest online shipper I've ever dealt with. I had my new Hard Drive in my hands in 2 days from the time of purchase. Very impressive. Newegg doesn't **** around.
Pros: It worked for a couple days.
