Pros: I was extremely impressed with how small this Zonet Print Server is. I was able to get TCP/IP, IPX and NetBeui protocols to work to it. If you're looking for a good cheap Print Server this is your answer. (and don't let the price fool you - it would appear you get more than what you pay for.)

Cons: The developers could have defaulted to using DHCP for the device to come up for the first time instead of statically coding 192.168.5.1. Do yourself a favor and code your computer with IP address of 192.168.5.2. Once you get the install program up and recognizing the Print Server, reconfigure the Print Server to use an IP address that's known on your LAN. This single issue can make it difficult for novice home users. Other than that I'm currently extremely pleased with it.

Pros: It works; It's cheap; It's tiny; Anybody on the same network can use the printer once this is set up. I have it hooked up to a Linksys WRT54G router and 4 computers using various wireless adapters are able to utilize the one printer.

Cons: Was a little tedious in my case to set up. ***For the included software to work: the printer's icon must exist already in Win XP printer folder. Then the print server software allows you to simply pick those drivers from a list.

Overall Review: What I had to do to get this to work for me: [1] Install printer drivers with printer attached to computer (this puts the icon in printer folder). [2] Disconnect printer from computer. [3]Connect to Print Server which is already connected to network and powered. [4] Press RESET button on print server (ran into a lot of problems if I didn't do this step). [5] Run included print server software. [6] Repeat entire process for every computer. Other suggestions: let this thing use the 192.168.5.1 IP address, when I tried to change it kept killing my network

Cons: Misleading manual and lame default settings.

Overall Review: The manual gives specific instructions per Unix flavor for setting the IP address with arp and ping. On reset my unit defaults to 192.168.5.1. The manual also describes how to change the configuration with tftp. On reset, my unit disables tftp, requiring web-based configuration. Once configured, it works like a charm.

Comments: This tiny server has been working well for me. If you have experience setting up networks, you won't have any problems. If not, these instructions may help: 1) Get an ethernet crossover cable and direct-connect the printer server to a computer (make sure all firewall and A/V are off). 2) Set the computer's IP address to 192.168.5.2 (the server's is 192.168.5.1). 3) Plug in the server's power supply and attach the printer (make sure it's on). 4) Ping the server at a command prompt (c:\>ping 192.168.5.1) and check for a return (if you don't get one, check connections, computer's IP, ect.) 5) Open a browser and enter 192.168.5.1 in the address. You should see the server's screen. Make sure it recognized the printer. 6) Edit the default IP setting in the server to an address within the DHCP range of your router (like 192.168.0.40 if the range is 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.51). 7) Remove the crossover cable and hook up the print server to the router. 8) Edit the router's setup so that the server's IP address is always assigned through DHCP. 9) Use the server's setup CD on each computer to allow the wizard to walk you through it. Note: If this is a new printer, make sure each computer using the printer has the drivers already installed.

Pros: small, cheap, claims to do what I wanted it to do

Cons: will act as a print server on a network provided that any computer connecting to it has an IP address very similar to the address of the print server, basically, you have to assign a static IP to your computer that is sequential with the print server

Overall Review: save your time and spend a little more money for a product that works within your network structure rather than mandating that you conform to the way it does things

Pros: Got this unit 2 hours ago and the setup took about 1/2 hour to get 5 computers up printing with the HP 3330, with thanks to the tips from reviewer gamma256 back on 10/13/2005. I 1st downloaded the latest driver/software from manufacturer's website. Then manually installed the software - used software to change the IP address, in my case, to 192.168.1.xx. From Windows, go to add printer. Choose "Local printer attached to this computer", then choose "Create a new port: Standard TCP/IP Port". Next step, enter the IP address you just gave it. Then next window under "Additional Port Info Required", choose "Custom" - click on Settings.. choose LPR protocol if Raw doesn't work. Finally, it'll ask for printer model - choose from the list or install from driver disk. Hope the tip helps...

Cons: Manual sucks...

Pros: I got this as a cheap server when I replaced my old HP. If you've ever setup a JetDirect, you'll have no problems with it. Once its setup, you don't even have to think about it. The e-mail alerts were a nice feature until my ISP changed their settings.

Cons: Setting up direct IP printing without the PSAdmin utility was hit or miss under windows. Had no problems printing under Linux.

Pros: This product works. But you have to spend an inordinate amount of time to get it to that state. The form-factor is really small, the feature set is decent, but all this is meaningless if you can't get it working...

Cons: I considered myself a pretty technically savvy person. And I've read all the previous reviews on this product to learn from other people's experience. But I still spend more than 2 days configuring this thing, part of it is due to the HP USB OfficeJet printer, but still, this is by far the most troublesome product I've had to install. The manuals (both the Quick Install Guide and User Manual) are clearly written by someone with no understanding of basic English grammar. So it's almost worthless.

Overall Review: These are the key things to do to get the printer server set up correctly. They may not be the only workable approach, but they help me get mine working. 1) Attach the printer to your computer locally and setup a local printer instance, my HP OfficeJet couldn't be found without installing local drivers. 2) Use the CD to launch the setup wizard. Let it find the printer server on the network. 3) First thing you do, change the IP of the print server to a static IP address outside of the DHCP range, so there's no conflict with DHCP-assigned address. 4) The setup wizard will modify your local printer instance to use the print server network port, this worked for one of my computers, but not others. In that case, create a new port using standard TCP/IP port, in the custom port setting, choose LPR instead of RAW, it won't work otherwise! Would I recommend this product to other people? Only if you have some technical knowledge and lots of patience!
