4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Full featured print server, low cost.

Cons: Web based administrative interface browser compatibility.

Overall Review: The fact that the web based admin interface didn't work with Google Chrome made setting this up take much longer than it needed to. I ended up using telnet to change the devices settings before realizing that the web interface works with Internet Exploder. Haven't had time to check for firmware updates, but this was a little irritating. How hard is it to make a web page work in all browsers (i.e. not hard). Besides this, I'm happy with the device, and would recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks on *Unix through Telnet

Pros: Great for old Parallel port printers.
I followed the directions in hooking it up to my HP LJ 4000 printer and supplying power. I then set up an Ethernet port on my computer for an address on the 192.168.0.X netblock and connected them together with a spare RJ45 cable.
From the computer, I telnet to 192.168.0.10, hit the ENTER key when prompted for password, and I was now able to changed the Ethernet address. When saving the changes, the terminal screen froze, as expected.
I then re-powered the print server and connected it to my router.
My router is wireless, so I set up access to the print server using port forwarding of ports 631 and 9100 (for ipp and HP JetDirect access). I can confirm this setup for port 9100, but not yet for port 631.

The manufacturer has some information, but not on telnet. Never had to use the Windows config program.

Cons: Lack of documentation for Telnet access.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for an old LaserJet 6P

Pros: - Perfectly small: a perfect fit in an old HP 6P
- Relatively trouble-free network setup
- Speedy 100mb connection with enough internal ram to quickly relieve clients on smaller print jobs
- Works fine with W7 clients

Cons: - Unusual default IP address (192.168.0.10)
- Web interface is unresponsive (i.e. does not respond at all)
- Must use clunky windows utility to fix an IP address (any software can be uninstalled once IP readdressed)
- Note recent possible security vulnerability with web interface (makes the dead web interface not so bad)

Overall Review: This installed completely inside an HP 6P cable compartment without ANY modifications (almost like it was made for it - even the cable holes lined up), and transformed this 15 year old war horse into a very serviceable network printer.

You absolutely need the included windows utility to change the default IP address. No need to use the utility any further once the IP is readdressed. All goes easily with a static IP address, and then manually adding that fixed port address when installing client printer drivers.

For its modest price, this is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for adding life to ancient but still rugged LPT LaserJet machines.

2 out of 5 eggsPrint Server Fail

Pros: None

Cons: Can't get it to work with my LaserJet 4100 HP because I have a iMac and the software doesn't work with mac OS, atleast there is nothing on the website or paperwork that indicates it.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked but not without problems

Pros: Was able to use my rock solid HP 6MP with computers that no longer have parallel ports
Once set up it worked pretty flawlessly
Cheap solution

Cons: Not very long cable. Printer had to be right next to router
Instructions are confusing. Newegg advert directs user to web site for updated driver but then you can't figure out which model to use easily.
Smart Installer not recommended so you have to understand network addressing to use properly. Not too hard but wouldn't want to be a neophyte (probably not an issue if you are still using parallel port equipment).
Was able to get this working with computers but never did with tablets, etc. May be my fault. Did have to re-install a number of times over its lifetime.

Overall Review: I lost this device due to a power surge. It being the first to go and possibly acting as a failsafe could be considered a Pro.

Considered this a good solution and still do for the price.

5 out of 5 eggsReplaced 11 year old Netgear Print Servers

Pros: When we have to print, we use 2 old HP 6P printers that were on old Netgear PS's. They finally died.
Newegg got the TP PS here pronto. Price was right,
Seems to do what it advertises. Set up required changing the subnet. Did not use the included SW.
Went to TPLink's site and downloaded the SW from there. Followed the installation instructions.
All computers in the residence can use the old reliable HP lasers again.
Happy Camper here!

Cons: None, so far.

5 out of 5 eggsTL-PS110P

Pros: Works with my HP LaserJet 5l printer.

Cons: none

Overall Review: Works with win98, winXP and win7x64 using the HP LaserJet 3050 PCL5 driver. Used the telnet interface to set it up; didn't bother with the included CD-ROM. Great little device to keep a legacy printer going.

5 out of 5 eggsJust What I Needed

Pros: I chose the TP-Link TL-PS110P because someone said it worked with Windows 7 64bit. I took it out of the box, hooked it up, and followed the instructions. The installation wizard that came with the port wouldn't run so I downloaded the installation wizard from the web site. It ran and installed the software and the driver.

Cons: None so far

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: The device is quick to connect, and easy to setup. We were up and running within minutes. In theory it's a great device to keep legacy printers up and running

Cons: I believe we got a defective product. About 2 times a week, more or less, the device will stop communicating with the network. There is no rhyme or reason that we've found but suddenly the device stops responding to pings and stops printing anything. The only fix is to do a hardware reset, which is mildly annoying to do in an office setting 2 times a week.

I have contacted support 3 times now for this issue over the last 5 months and they are still unable to give a solution. Their support is slow to respond and they are not accommodating at all.

Overall Review: If the device worked, it would be great, but crashing twice a week isn't an option. Their support could also use some improvement.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Upgrade from Hawking

Pros: Allows me to continue using my old Brother and Canon Printers on the network with both Win7 and Win XP. An inexpensive upgrade.

Cons: None really. Easily replaced my Hawking devices.

Overall Review: This print server works on both my Win XP 32-bit and Win7 64-bit machines. I had to install these because my Hawking print server ports were not recognized by my new Windows 7 PC. I was hesitant about replacing my Hawking print servers, as they have always worked well with no problems.
However, these print servers were easy to install. The TP-Link print server is set at a default of 192.168.0.10. My Network is 192.168.1.x. So when I connected the print server to my network, my browser could not access the port. I know you can temporarily change the PC to a 192.168.0.x just to access the print server, but I tried the download file "20103103450716.zip" first. It contains the setup file "PSWizard-LPR.exe". This program quickly recognized the port and allowed me to change the IP address to 192.168.1.10 without changing any network settings on my PC. It then created a new printer port "IP_192.168.1.10-1" (This can be renamed to whatever you want). At that point, it was just a matter of adding this new port to my existing print drivers on all my Windows 7 and Windows XP PCs.

4 out of 5 eggsexcellent product, awkward setup

Pros: Tiny - easily fits inside cable compartment of HP 6P. My first server failed for reasons unknown after 1+ years, but it had worked fine in the meantime so I bought another to replace it. I needed help getting it installed, but the ladies on the help desk were knowledgeable and patient.

Cons: Setup is awkward. It comes with the static IP address 192.168.0.10. You have to use the setup utility (a Windows program from the included CD, or downloaded from the TP-Link website) to reset it. But you first have to configure your Windows machine with a static IP address on that subnet (e.g., 192.168.0.100), or the setup utility cannot find the print server. That part is not explained in the documentation. The rest of the setup is straightforward. Once finished, you can of course reconfigure the Windows machine for DHCP.

Overall Review: When I installed the first server, I didn't have to configure the Windows machine with a static IP. That may only be necessary under Windows 8.

5 out of 5 eggsSaved my bacon!

Pros: I am using the paeallel version with an HP4P Laserjet which was NOT listed in the compatibility table. However, it works like a charm connected to my Ethernet-connected router (hard-wired). If you have the option, the USB may provide a faster data transfer if that is a consideration for you.

Cons: Haven't detected any so far

Overall Review: Great idea which saves you from obsoleting your decades old printer!

3 out of 5 eggsWorks fine once you get it set up

Pros: Good once it's setup. Don't use the CD. Download the latest software from their website.

Cons: I was pulling my hair out trying to set its IP address. Using the software on the CD I couldn't get my changes to stick. It kept reverting to the wrong IP. I read some comments and one said CD software was no good and to download it from the website instead.

5 out of 5 eggseasy installation on HP LaserJet 4Plus

Pros: As small as a Centronics parallel port connector
Easy installation
Works with HP LaserJet 4Plus

Cons: none yet

Overall Review: This print server is a very slick little device. It attached to the back of my HP LaserJet 4Plus printer and took up no more room than the parallel port cable connector it replaced. I plugged in power and cat 5e cable and turned everything on.
I loaded in the mini CD and it loaded an installation program on my Win 7 64 bit computer. I followed the quick start guide directions. I had no trouble accessing the server from the installation program, with IP address 192.168.0.10, even though my subnet is on 192.168.1.x. I changed the IP address to 192.168.1.10, same as the old Net Gear print server I was replacing (failed after ~10 years). The install utility showed the settings for the print server on the "finish" screen, and I noticed the print server name was IP_192.168.1.10-1. The print server name I used in the Net Gear server was "HPLaserJet4Plus", so I logged into the print server through IE at the IP address, as I was used to from the Net Gear, and changed the name to match my network's settings.
I tested the TL-PS110P on two desktops and one wireless laptop and they all printed without touching the old drivers. It doesn't get much better than that.
When I checked into the TP-Link website, my printer wasn't even on the compatibility list, but it works fine anyway. I'm glad I didn't check that before I bought the server. All in all, a painless experience, which is rare.

One strange quirk. During the initial installation, one is instructed to select the model of print server, and TL-PS110-U is pointed to in the quick installation guide, so I chose that. Well the -U model is the USB server. This model is -P, parallel port. Everything worked anyway, so I'm not sure what to tell you about that.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks after a bit of futzing

Pros: - Small
- Works as expected
- Fits in the cable access area of my HPLJ6 with the door closed (barely)

Cons: - Uses a separate AC adapter instead of using power from the printer.
- Have to route that power cable and plug into a second outlet.

Overall Review: It takes a bit of futzing to get this to work, and setting up the printer on your various PCs can be a little bit of a chore, but once you get through all that it does work seamlessly. The only real problem I have had is that I get print timeouts because I'm having a network problem but the printer shows as online - in other words, there is not remote status reporting via the Windows print dialogs.

One other thing that irritated me is that I wanted to name my printer a specific way but I had to conform to its name scheme for which I don't particularly care. Minor quibble for which I'm not deducting points.

Also, it's a bummer that it doesn't allow my printer to have Airprint functionality; I'd like if it did but again no markdown for that.

All in all I'm very happy, especially for the price.

2 out of 5 eggsRight price, but a pain to get working

Pros: The device is simple and unobtrusive.

Cons: It was anything but easy to get to work in my case. I was able to see the device on my home network, but not to get it to work with my Oki laser printer without a lot fooling with it. TP-Link's tech support (via e-mail) was responsive but not really very helpful. It took a lot of trial and error, trying a number of nonstandard printer settings before one finally worked.

Overall Review: I'm not sure I would recommend it.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsjust works

Pros: Plug it in, program it and let it work. I purchased 4 of these to replace D-Link usb print servers that kept dropping off the network. These have been flawless. Always best to lock them down with a static IP.

Cons: Of course you need a printer with a parallel port like the Brother lasers I'm using. Like all network print servers the printer cannot be a gdi unit. That is, some cheaper inkjets or mfc printers will not work because of the way they do bidirectional data flow. But any PCL or PS printer will work fine.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for HP LaserJet 4L

Pros: Connected to my old LaserJet 4L's parallel port and accessed via my Windows 8 PC. The installation was easy and worked the first time around. Absolutely no problems. I would highly recommend this for the price, ease of installation, and usability.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works great. There is no driver. It is a remote device, accessed with a web browser (like a router). Default address is 192.168.0.10. My network uses 192.168.1.xx, so I just logged in and changed it to 192.168.1.10. Multiple network computers can share the printer, it's great.

Cons: None. It fits in the laser printer case, but it does also need a AC power connection.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Tiny. Easy to administer from the web interface.

Cons: No apparent IPv6 support.

Overall Review: Bought this for our manufacturing office. For the cost of one cartridge for their ancient inkjet this print server allows them to use their existing copier as a network printer.

I have no idea what software comes on the cd. Installation was as easy as plugging it in, configuring one workstation with an ip address in the 192.168.0.0 network, and setting a new ip address on the web interface.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works well to interface older printers with newer networks. Buffer helps improve data stream consistency to printers. Simple tool for setup. Does just what it needs to do.

Cons: none

Overall Review: We use these with older Roland wide format printers 54" wide. Used to use Netgear PS101 but now these as the netgear ones are no longer made. These work great.

3 out of 5 eggsIt Works....

Pros: It works, eventually.

Cons: Do not even try to use the software than ships with this.

The software that comes with it is useless - does not work. I manually set up an IP port and the device worked.

Then I checked their web site, downloaded a newer version of software specifically for this model and that did work when installed on another PC - it successfully created the correct port.

Overall Review: For $36 how much can I complain?

Pros: Easy to install. Works great. Really improved the printing speed over my old JetDirect card. Worth what I paid for it and I didn't have to buy a new printer!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm but read the users guide

Pros: Simple to install. Fits under the cover of a HP Laserjet 1200. Works with WinXP and Win7.

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: Be sure to read the user's guide if you have multiple computers--the settings for TCP/IP port are in that document, which comes on the CD or you can find it online. The quick install is great for the first computer. All subsequent computers must install TCP/IP with "LPR" and "lp1" settings. Took me a little while to find that but no problems after that.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like magice with a 6p

Pros: -Fits under the I/O cover of a HP LJ 6P (Which was already stated in another review.)

-Once set up, this responds quickly and reliably to all requests, including the web UI

Cons: -You must use the supplied CD, or a web download of their software to set the IP initially, then you can toss the disk and uninstall the utility. It does uninstall fully.

Overall Review: For the money and purpose you can't go wrong.

1 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK Customer Service Fails

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Unit was DOA

Overall Review: TP-LINK Customer Service is horrible. They tried to send me back to newegg for replacement twice. Once I was able to get an RMA number from TP-LINK with a phone number to call in the US, the number rings, and voice mail picks up and tells me to call again, then hangs up.
