4 out of 5 eggsNew life to old router

Pros: Easy to install - screw the old ones off; put the new ones on.
Less expensive than a new router (that may or may not offer better range).

Cons: They are large/long, but it's not that big of a deal.

Overall Review: I was trying to push my wireless signal to a detached garage space where the signal was spotty at best. The standard antennas on my router (an older TP-Link supporting wireless G) were having problems cutting through the walls.

I relocated the router in the house a bit, and slapped these guys on. Problem solved.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked better than expected.

Pros: I live in a condo where I see almost 20 networks. There is a tremendous amount of interference at 2.4GHz . I've tried all possible channels on my router/adapters and have had limited success. My ISP advertises 75 Megabits per second down and 35 Megabits per second up. I get 75/35 when hardwired. With wireless, my rates used to top out at 40/25. I swapped antennas (two of them) and now get 70/34 consistently, reliably. My connections go through one wall, range from 15-30 feet, with lots of other 2.4GHz devices around.

Cons: I did not notice the height of the these antennas as being advertised.

Overall Review: I bought a pair of antennas for my red-banded premium FiOS router. They are about 11 inches/28 centimeters tall for those of you with space concerns.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a champ!

Pros: Works as advertised, easy to install, and a perfect match for my TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Wireless N Gigabit Router

Cons: none

Overall Review: Bought two of these to replace two of the three Antennas on my TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Wireless N Gigabit Router. My son's room is the fatherest from my office nd he was only getting two bars on his wireless adapter. installed these and he now gets four to five bars out of five. Thinking about buying a third one.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well, SMA connectors

Pros: Installing two of these on my Asus PCE-N13 PCIe WLAN NIC vastly improved my connection speed and quality. I went from dropped signals and unpredictable download speeds to pulling the max my router will handle with no dropped connections since installation. Very impressive change.

Cons: N/A

Overall Review: These use SMA style connectors. Check your equipment before purchase to see what kind of connector (screw thread) you need.

4 out of 5 eggsWell made

Pros: Excellent build quality! Way better than the cheap Super Power Supply antennas, straight and sturdy

Cons: No signal improvement compared to the stock antennas on (my now longer working) Netgear R7000.

Overall Review: These antennas look cool! But other than that no actual benefit when it comes to wireless range. Purchased mostly for the looks.

4 out of 5 eggsLong, high gain antenna

Pros: -Works at least as well as the 5 db antenna I was using before, if not better
-Simple to use--just screw it onto your existing wireless card/router
-Reliable

Cons: -Does not provide a huge jump in signal strength (no clear advantage over 5 db antennae)
-Rather long, so sticks out
-No major signal fluctuation (very stable connection).

Overall Review: This antenna works for me. I have it attached to an old wireless G card (no N or AC here). I had cannibalized a 5 db antenna from another newer card, which was good, but wanted a stronger signal since my router is at the opposite end of the house. If you're coming from one of the stubby little 3 inch antennae, this will be an improvement. If you already have a 5-6 inch antenna, this may not get you much more signal.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent After Market Antenna

Pros: This is an excellent after market antenna for boosting ranges on almost anything wireless.

Cons: A little large but it definitely gets the job done.

5 out of 5 eggsVastly improved connection strength and speed

Pros: The antennas improved my connection strength vastly. I can now pick signals from all of my neighbors . much higher throughput.

Cons: these antennas are large (If that is an issue for you)

Overall Review: Make sure to replace all your antennas. ( I had to replace all three on my wireless card)

1 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: None that I can see.

Cons: Really big, didn't improve my signal at all really, I had ordered this to replace a 4 or 5 DBI antenna.

Overall Review: Not worth $11 in my opinion

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for your review and we are sorry to see that you are not satisfied with this product.

It is important to replace all of the Antennas on your device with the same Antenna. If you have three antennas then replace all three.

There isn't any configuration that you can do with these and it is really just plug-and-play.

One suggestion may be to increase the TX/RX power on your device.

Let me know if you have any issues or concerns at howard.he@tp-link.com.

5 out of 5 eggsFemale Connector on Antenna

Pros: Very long / large antenna! Looks well made.

Cons: Very long / large antenna! (If that is a con for you.)

Overall Review: The connector is FEMALE! Not sure why the specs say "male". It fits the Encore ENHWI-3GN3 wireless router / repeater I bought it for.

I have not yet used either. I wanted to post concerning the connector since I had so much trouble trying to verify the connectors on both units.

5 out of 5 eggsa foot tall

Pros: My wireless card dosn't work in my laptop
I got a nano usb wireless adapter from the egg, but it had very limted range.
Could not get signal outside the house.
So I got bigger usb adapter with a antenna it worked well, and even better with a small 4" usb extention cord.
I ordered this to replaced the stock antenna.
I pull in networks from all over, it increases range like crazy.
I still use the nano adapter with no external antenna.
and I use the stock 5db antenna. When I need gain I screw the big bad 8db and use the short extention cord

Cons: Its big for a laptop usb wireles adapter use.
Chicks don't stop and go,...... dude nice antenna

Overall Review: Could double as softball bat if needed.
If I move to Afganistan and get my house router 5 bars
Be sure your know you SMA connector style male v.s female (i.e rp) If your antenna dosnt have the center pin this is the baby. Can't speak for how much it would extend a router.
But I think more gain is to be had by reception than broadcast db, just like a radio station watts v.s a car antenna.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Elder Wand. . . Antenna

Pros: You can pick up wifi signals of your neighbors that are located 1-2 blocks away.

Solidly built

Works great for upgrading a router or wireless network card.

Cons: "So that must be Lord Farquaads Wifi Antenna. Do you think maybe he's compensating for something?"
Seriously this thing is almost as long as my forearm. Makes it a bit cumbersome to hook it up to computers that need to be moved around from time to time.

Overall Review: I have bought like 4 of these things in the past year. Fantastic way to boost signal.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked as expected

Pros: Extremely easy to install. Packaging was done right. No blister pack garbage that rips your hands apart. Immediate increase in signal strength from my ASUS RT-N16 router and provided just the boost that I needed for my upstairs D-Link DIR-615 running DD-WRT to act as a proper repeater

Cons: The only con is the base price. I got these on sale for $7.99 a piece. Seeing as my ASUS RT-N16 needs 3 of them, buying them at the base price of $19.99 would be quite expensive. At $7.99 they are a great deal.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None really.

Cons: The antenna is nearly a foot long and is replacing 2 2dBi antennas on my TP-Link wireless card. These gave me half the signal strength and speed as the 2dBi! I don't know if the wireless card (which is also brand new) is giving them enough power to operate or what but for an 8dBi antenna that is 3x the size, shouldn't it give you better performance?

Overall Review: Talked to customer support TWICE and both times I got no helpful information on fixing it besides extremely basic stuff like "try pointing it at the router". I read other comments on this saying to not get it, but I thought my case would be different since I am only a couple rooms away from the router. It may work better on other devices but for a desktop wireless card, it worked terrible.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

One of the problems that you may be seeing as you have mentioned is the issue with not enough power to get a good signal from the antenna.

If you could give us some more information at howard.he@tp-link.com on the Adapter that you are using and average distance from the Router, then we can try to further trouble-shoot your issue.

We understand that you've tried to resolve this issue before and that you haven't had much luck.

As a worst case scenario we can go ahead and submit an RMA to replace the device if needed.

1 out of 5 eggsDIDNT Improve at ALL

Pros: It looks like it would give/receive a better signal.

Cons: This Antenna is about 3 times the size of my stock antenna, and doesnt even provide double the performance. Infact, I didnt even see a change in signal strength. It's a shame, I thought this would solve my problem, but I ended up wasting $10.

Overall Review: I am having bad luck..

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,
We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
The high gain antenna will propagate more signal horizontally. And if your router has more than 1 antenna, youd need to replace all antennas due to the MIMO technology.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: I purchased two of these antennas so that I could upgrade my router and it greatly improved the range and speed of my old router.
Remember you have to change out ALL of the antennas on a router to reap the benefit of these higher gain antennas

Cons: Large, but I knew that when I purchased them.

2 out of 5 eggsLittle Difference Over Stock Antenna

Pros: It works. Good quality.

Cons: I see very little difference between this antenna and the stock antenna on my ENCORE ENHWI-3GN3 Wireless N150 Router / Repeater which I am using outdoors (under cover) as a repeater. It does make a difference in signal strength, but very little. I am not impressed with the repeater, so perhaps that is where most of the problem is.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,
We are happy to hear the adapter works on your router and sorry for the antenna not giving you expected range.
The high gain antenna requires it's in the same horizontal level as all your wireless clients.
If you place the antenna high, you cannot get the best range.

I hope the info help you and please feel free to drop me an email on this case @ howard.he@tp-link.com

3 out of 5 eggsHelps the 2.4 GHz, does not support 5 GHz

Pros: It does improve the range over stock antennas on the 2.4 GHz band. Not a lot, but noticeable.

Cons: The antennas clearly say they are for 2.4 GHz and they really are. If you use 5 GHz, look somewhere else. Strangely, these antennas work better for devices above it. I get a better signal upstairs 50 feet away than downstairs where the router is 50 feet away even though the signal has to go through more walls upstairs.

Overall Review: These are more suited for WiFi adapters on your computer and not for routers and access points.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Wade,
We're happy to hear the antenna boostes your 2.4GHz wireless network.

Yes, the antenna is 2.4GHz only.
It's also suitable for routers and APs with only 2.4GHz radio.

We really appreciate you taking the time to check out our TP-Link products and we hope that you will be able to check out more in the future.

Pros: Noticeable improvement in signal strength and definitely a good value. On average I saw ~10% stronger signal over the stock 5dbi antenna on my amped sr10000 repeater. I'm pretty far away from the router as well!

Cons: none at the moment

Pros: Gained additional 2 BARS for near full signal constantly!!! Put 2x on my WiFi Router and 1x on my PC!!!! Used on a N300 Dual Router and N300 PCI-e Adapter!!

Cons: besides it's a foot tall, but I know that going into purchase, and for reasoning of getting better signal!!

Overall Review: I had to move my puter upstairs....about 40-50ft thru 4walls and of coarse a floor!!! This increased the signal so I wouldn't get dropped all the time!!!! Before I was only one room away (1 wall), so signal was great!!!

5 out of 5 eggsWorked for me

Pros: I bought this to complement my Engenius 2.4ghz wifi adapter. The sorry receiver built into my laptop is useless.
Adapter is excellent and comes with a 2dbi antenna. Not quite enough of a boost if I move around and get too far from the router. I needed more dbi for more bars. This TP-LINK 8dBi andtenna has done the trick. Improved signal greatly. I get five bars all the time.

Cons: I really don't see any for my situation.

Overall Review: Yeah, it's big. Not likely to walk out of the building with it.
I have my adapter hooked to my computer via a 10' usb cable so I can search out the sweet spots if necessary. So, the cable plus the huge antenna are sort of odd looking but they were inexpensive solutions that work and all problems solved.

5 out of 5 eggsIf you own FiOS Actiontec MI424WR Buy It!

Pros: Made poor weak signal to good signal. before terrible 75 -80dBi to now 65 - 70 dBi a few rooms away. Still need to select channels for best signal.

Cons: Will not change router to top of the line 5 Ghz band or 802.11AC - tongue in cheek

Overall Review: If this didn't work, it was going to force me to speed up my acquisition of a new top of the line router with 5 GHz channels. On a good day with low interference I am getting over well 50 Mbps down without stuttering signal loss. Even bad days with interference often 30 Mbps down. Now I can take my time on deciding if an when I will upgrade. It was narrowed down to 5 dBi and this 8dBi one. Glad I got the stronger one. Hope this helps someone with the same issue.

Pros: swapping this antenna for the peewee default thing on my router took signal reception on the far side of the house from poor/fair at best to excellent 24/7

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value High Gain Antenna

Pros: * Sturdy Construction. No Rattles or falling over.
* Increases Signal Strength for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Bands.
* NewEgg reduces the price when you Bundle it in with a Router Purchase.
* Significantly extends the range and speed of the WiFi transmission in my Home.

Cons: * All Routers with External Antenna should already have these as a standard feature.
* Not the cheapest Antenna offered ;-)

Overall Review: I did a direct comparison against a pair of G-Skill antenna I bought here for US$5 each and, the standard antenna that came with the D-Link DIR-825 Dual Band WiFi Router I also just purchased. The TP-Link Antennas increased signal strength and extended the signal range for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. I was able to get max signal on the 2.4 GHz band at 20 meters and through 5 walls with metal pipes, romex, and cableing. The 5 GHz band was also improved though the original signal, and hence the amplified signal were also weaker than the 2.4 GHz band.

I do not have a signal meter that can give a quantitative measure of signal strength in my home. I measured it using a HP Elitebook Laptop which I brought to different locations and connected to the WiFi and streamed Video signal while monitoring the # of bars of signal strength for each band that the HP laptop reported.

The TP-Link antenna gave the best increase in signal strength of the three antenna types I tested. Surprizingly enough, the G-Skill antenna which are the longest and largest antenna (with a reported 9db signal gain) had the worst signal strength. The stock antenna on the D-link DIR-825 router were the shortest/smallest antenna but gave more signal strenght than the G-Skill antenna but not as good as the TP-Link antenna.

I would recommend the TP-Link antenna if you need more signal strength from your router. Stay away from the G-Skill high gain antenna. Those may be half the price but, if they don't increase the signal, they are not worth buying.
