4 out of 5 eggsFantastic sound

Pros: Okay first off this is the first time I have gone with this brand, and I will say as far as sound quality on both stereo and dolby surround sound goes it is fantastic. As soon as I plugged it in and started listening to it on stereo I knew that it was good headset for the money, especially the sale that I got it for. Now, after downloading the sound card driver and hitting the faint blue button on the left speaker turns on dolby digital and the surround sound is fantastic on this headset. I have had other virtual 7.1 headsets and this one as far as sound quality and volume definitely wins in my experience. I would take in to account there was not all pros that I have experienced with this particular headset

Cons: One of the biggest and most immediate cons for me and which basically broke the deal with these for myself was the comfort level of this headset. Now, I have a larger sized skull so I know that perhaps other people may be fine with this headset, and am not in any way trying to persuade someone from trying this great sound quality head set. Just know both myself and my wife is definitely average head size had a hard time wearing this headset. I also feel that the plastic feel cheaper than many other head sets I have fooled with at this price range. Now it does not feel overly cheap and the sound quality alone would have me buy this a second time if only the comfort was there. I wore it for a few days, and honestly it does get better but not enough to the point of not feeling a sharp pain in the ears and or jaw. I am sure that the longer worn the more well fitted it becomes. I say if you are average head size and smaller you should be alright after the initial first couple days. I say give it a chance because if the comfort is not an issue then chances are you will really love this headset.

Other Thoughts: Great sound quality, affordable, comfort may be an issue, and finally wish they would of done more with the software options and giving maybe more options to the headset.

1 out of 5 eggsSNAP GOES THE PLASTIC

Pros: Plantronics has the best sound (highs and lows)

Cons: 6 months in, SNAP goes the plastic. This happened on my GEN 1 770 also, thought they'd fix it with the 780... NOPE!!! Ridiculous

Other Thoughts: Ridiculous how easily these break! The most vital point on the headset (where pressure is applied) is not re-inforced! Horrible design.
PS - I am a huge plantronics fan - best sound out there. Burned twice by them now, you'd think I'd learn.

1 out of 5 eggsSound great, Plastic horrid

Pros: Great sound, and very comfortable headset.

Cons: I take great care of my headsets so that they will last me a long time. My last headset was a Turtlebeach and lasted me well over 4 years. So a little less than 8 months I go to put them on and SNAP! The plastic right where the headband felt meets snaps.

Other Thoughts: First time ever using anything from Plantronics and feeling very discouraged to ever look at their products again. I want quality products that will last, not break within a year.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate - You can REPAIR them.

Pros: The sound really is good. Not audiophile quality but very good with deep base and the 7.1 really does work good with BF3 and BF4 etc and I can hear them moving around behind me with great accuracy.

5 stars so that everyone will see this problem and solution. Before the breakage I would have given them 5 stars

Cons: They Break
I think it's a real shame they have ignored this problem of breaking in the same place for years. They may have been able to corner the market on the 7.1 headsets at a reasonable price.

Other Thoughts: I spent $7.50 for a tube of JB Weld, KwikPlastik epoxy and I was able to repair the break. It's not pretty but it saved the headset from the trash. I used about an 1/8th of the tube with most of it applied to the inner side, where the break is. You will have to lift the foam cushion to apply the epoxy where "my" break was, very likely the same place as yours. I cut off a short and narrow piece of stiff plastic I had laying around and inserted it vertically into the epoxy to help with the hold. I then let it cure for 20 hours, longer than was necessary but CYA. I'll sand and paint when I have the time. Support has said two times they will get with me via email in 1 business day. The first contact was Monday and this is Wed. I guess they have a different calender than the rest of us.
I hope this helps someone.

2 out of 5 eggsSound is good, plastic is NOT

Pros: I bought this elsewhere so I won't show as a verified owner, but I am. I bought this headset for BF3 initially and the sound is good with solid bass. The 7.1 seems to actually work as I am able to hear people coming up behind me with good positional accuracy.

2 stars because the sound is good.

Cons: After 15 months of Very gentle adult use the headband broke right where the logo stops. This is NOT unusual I am finding. After doing a simple search online I have found many, many other people with the exact same breakage dating back to at least 2010. Different models but with the same type of headband and obviously the same cheap plastic. You are forewarned and I hope your one of the lucky ones that gets many years of use from them.

Other Thoughts: Built in breakage, 1 year to 15 months. A shame the plastic will break for many people. Why use cheap plastic and very thin at the point of breakage?????

I have tried using krazy glue, maximum hold to fix it with no success. What kind of plastic can't be glued with Krazy Glue?!?. Where it breaks the plastic is VERY thin, not enough surface for the glue to hold vs the weight of the ear pieces.
I'll try a good 2 part epoxy tomorrow.

The big deal is that they know this is a problem and for at least 3 years and different headsets they have not tried to fix it. or even admit it is a problem.

2 out of 5 eggsGood sound, bad manufacturing

Pros: Great sound! One of the best I've had.

Cons: 15 months after using it, the headband broke. I can see stress fractures on both left and right sides right where the GameCom logo band ends.

Other Thoughts: Too bad too. I really liked the sound. Now I will be looking for another brand.

5 out of 5 eggsGood sound, but delicate

Pros: Sound is amazing for usb an simulated 7.1. This headset is probably not for accuracy, but rather gaming, movies and music. The bass is huge and the sound range is awesome. If you are going to buy something under 100$, this is the one you want. Its sounds like a 200$ set and its cumfy. The mic is also suprisingly crystal clear.

Cons: Plastics used are very easy to break. Broke one set and had to superglue it and tape it back together. Cheap build quality on the plastics so treat it with extreme care. Fair sacrafice for 80$ set with awesome sound.

4 out of 5 eggs1 Year Owner

Pros: Very comfortable ear cups and headband.
Great sound quality, especially when gaming. The sound comes from where it is supposed to.
On ear mute and volume controls work well.

Cons: Sometimes the Dolby audio 7.1 will cut out and it will go to standard 2 ch stereo. This is only an annoyance as you can just alt-tab and re-enable it with the taskbar icon.

I never had a real problem out of these until tonight when I went to put them on. I am in no way hard on my headsets, they usually last me quite a while and I always take them off and put them on with both hands. When I picked them up and started to put them on the right side of the head band snapped almost all the way off right above where the ear cup mounts into the head band. These only come with a 1 year warranty from Plantronics so I'm out of luck and have to buy a new set. I should have bought them from Newegg!

Other Thoughts: Overall a great headset other than the cheap plastic in the headband. Wait for them to go on sale.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat while they lasted

Pros: I loved the sound quality in this headset. It had some great lows and definitely improved my fps game play due to the positional virtual 7.1 surround.

Cons: Unfortunately a little over a year of ownership they decided to snap on me. Like many of the complaints on this product claim the thin plastic where the headband connects to the earpiece is very rigid. This causes this area to break due to the smallest fall. If you decide to go with this just keep that in mind and be extremely careful.

Other Thoughts: I was debating on whether I would go ahead and buy this product again after it broke, but I in the end decided to go with something a little less breakable. In the end I decided on the Corsair Vengeance 1500 v2. This product looked slightly tougher and was slightly less money than the Plantronics 780. We'll see if it lives up to it.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome, but...

Pros: Awesome sound!
Very comfortable!
Well priced!
7.1 Dolby!
Quality mic!

Cons: The only con I have: my headset usually sits on my monitor when I'm not using it or away. I went to grab it one day, and I put it on my head, and it snapped! They still work, but the right earphone is sort of dangling. I put superglue in the crack and it seems to be staying together but it still feels loose. I wanted to get a refund or new headset via the warranty but it doesn't seem to cover the US (?) I applied no pressure or abnormal usage when they broke, they just snapped.
