4 out of 5 eggsGood quality, but fragile

Pros: The sound quality is great, and the built in mic works amazing, the ear cups fit my head and ears.

Cons: The headphones themselves are exteramly fragile. I was up one night and pulled them off my desk and both ear muffs cracked and fell, leaving only the wires to hold them together.

Other Thoughts: This is a great head set for the price, you just need to take extra care of them

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very nice surround sound quality and microphone.

Cons: Owned 2 pairs over the course of 2 years. Each pair broke in the exact same place above the ear. Both snapped the earphone off by small drops to the floor. Cord is also not tangle free.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Sound Quality

Pros: In my opinion there are none.

Cons: Honestly, I am torn between product dissatisfaction and the product actually being defective. The sound quality is so poor compared to my less expensive GameCom headset that I honestly am not sure. I play Counter Strike and found the sound oddly muffled. The earmuffs are too small to actually cover my ears properly which I have never experienced. Just plain uncomfortable. I can see why these were on sale.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a decent headset I would recommend the Plantronics GameCom 377. I like Plantronics so the poor quality of these headphones was surprising and disappointing. I will continue using these until their death.

2 out of 5 eggsFragile!

Pros: Sound is ok. Price is enticing. Two eggs.

Cons: I have to take my headset off a lot and there is a very Fragile section of this headset that will crack if you pull a little too hard. My best friend bought one before I could warn him and his cracked as well. I understand I could be extremely delicate with the hesdset but I just feel it shouldn't be an issue. If you do buy it I would reinforce the areas right above where the ear portion swivels.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth what I paid for it and then some.

Pros: Good frequency coverage
Very good but not overwhelming bass
Noise-cancelling
Long USB cord
High quality microphone

Cons: Bass, while frequency covered well, could be a little better
Headset is tighter than most, even after adjusting, and can be discomforting if used more than a couple of hours at a time.
Didn't come with 3.5mm option

Other Thoughts: I use this headset for gaming and for music production in a home setup. Issues that I have with this headset are not a major fault, just observations from every day use.

Got it on shell shocker for over 50% off, so really cannot complain. It was more than worth it. Not sure if I'd pay full price though.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: sound is good, both as stereo and emulating surround.

Cons: Comfort is kind of a mixed bag... which is unfortunate. As far as ear comfort goes it seems to do that well but there is a lot of tension that places quite a bit of pressure on the sides of the head. After a while I usually end up wishing to take them off.

While using any voice chat program (Skype, Teamspeak, ect) theres a very real chance any music or other sounds bleed into your mic. This means the people you're talking with don't hear themselves echoed but they hear everything else coming through your headphones. I haven't be able to isolate the conditions that make this happen but after looking on the forums, it seems to be an issue other plantronics headsets have as well. They recommend using the warranty to get a new headset unfortunately.

Other Thoughts: All around not a terrible product, I wouldn't say it offers anything special, but it was worth $40 on sale for sure. If I wanted to spend $80 on a headset I wouldn't look here.

Additionally if you're looking for a headset with bass options or really loud bass just stop considering this headset entirely.

4 out of 5 eggsI liked this enough to buy a second one

Pros: - Decent sound
- Affordable

Cons: - Limited durability over long periods of time

Other Thoughts: I bought one of these two years ago and used it daily until the physical body of the headset broke near one of the swivels, making it uncomfortable to wear and significantly reducing how snugly it fit over my ears.

However, I really liked it, especially for the price, so I bought a second one. It arrived today, and in putting it on, it made me realize how loose the old pair had gotten. As such, I must warn that while this headset offers a fairly decent 7.1 audio experience for under $100, it really isn't the most resilient piece of hardware, and if you're hard on your stuff like I am, and you can afford it, you might want to shop around for something a little more solidly built.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems good

Pros: Audio seems good, parts seem solid.

Cons: when using the headset with audio (skype, gotomeeting) I always have to change settings. I'm not sure if this is an issue or not.

4 out of 5 eggsThe sound isn't amazing, but it's a decent headset

Pros: I picked these up on sale for $40, and they seem to have a pretty solid construction. The microphone is better than the one on my webcam. Also, the volume controls on the headphones themselves is pretty nice.

Cons: The sound can be beaten by a $30 pair on Sennheisers. Also, the surround sound isn't that impressive.

Other Thoughts: A decent headset if you can get it on sale.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat headphones if you have a smaller head

Pros: + Good sound
+ Good microphone
+ Durable
+ Strong cord

I purchased my GameCom 780's in late 2012 after going through 6 cheaper headsets in 6 months.

I chose the 780 because of its padded cups and thick USB cord (most of the cheap headsets I went through frayed their thin 3.5mm cords). After a year and a half of getting dropped and abused they still work perfectly and have no notable wear.

The sound is good for both music and games; high quality and more than enough for most games, but don't expect studio-quality sound if you do any recording or production. The virtual 7.1 is a fun novelty for games that support 7.1 surround, but it doesn't hold a candle to real 7.1.

Cons: - Painfully uncomfortable if you have a large head
- Highly reliant on special software

I cannot use this headset for more than 45 minutes at a time. My right ear feels pinched within 5 minutes, and I have a headache after an hour. My smaller friends find this headset very comfortable, but as a tall guy who destroys ballcaps this headset just doesn't cut it for me. I actually bring a cheap alternative headset with me to LAN parties because otherwise I'm on the couch taking aspirin after a bit.

Do not bother purchasing this headset unless you have an OS that supports the software and plan to use it. Sound quality without the "GameCom 780/788 7.1 Surround Sound" software is very low, and the volume is extremely loud even when turned down as low as possible. You will regret your purchase if you intend to use this headset with OSX or Linux.

Other Thoughts: If you're using Windows 7 or Windows 8, have a smaller head, and are looking for a durable headset with good sound, the GameCom 780 might be exactly what you're looking for.

If you have a larger head or use a different OS, I'd advise looking for something else.
