Assuming that you are asking if this printer has automatic double side printing function, the answer is no.
If you want to choose one with that specific function, you may wan to choose M401dn instead of M401n.
In the suffix, 'n' means network capable, and 'd' means double sided printing capable, on most of HP printer models.

IIRC, it came with a "starter" cartridge - not a full capacity cart, but since I had purchased a special MICR toner cart for check printing (the reason I had purchased the device) it didn't matter to me.

No, it's just a printer, not a multi-function device.  Prints well, though.

We use these in a business office and connect them directly to the network from a CAT5 cable.  But I have used a standard 6 ft USB cable to connect them to individual computers.  But it has been my experience that connecting them to the network allows for the easiest installation and any computer on the network can print to it so you can place it anywhere in the office that has a network port.  Or in a home you can plug it into the back of your router.

Yes, the printer is wireless. We use this printer in our office; it is centrally located whereas several computers print from it.

Do you have to replace the drum?

Stella, we haven't had to replace the drum yet, but have since ordered 2 more printers and have had to return them as they are defective; as soon as you connect an Ethernet cable, the printer stops working. We will not purchase these again; we have begun purchasing the p3015n series.

Yes, it did come with a 'starter' cartridge of lesser yield, but I don't recall the estimated page count.

As for tax, I believe you'll find things every day which tax all of us in little ways.  The email which prompted me to answer this question, for example.  I don't see why this printer should be any different.
