3 out of 5 eggsNot bad, if you don't mind an expiration date.

Pros: Easy enough to use, as long as you follow the directions on the box.
Works well when you're decently close (a room or two) away from the router.

Cons: Sucks at picking up signal from routers farther than about 3 rooms away.
After having it for about a year, the signal randomly drops and the upload speed is atrocious.

Other Thoughts: It worked well enough to begin with. I still got shoddy signal from my router, but I'm willing to blame that on how far I have my pc from it, given that when I moved it worked fine in the period before I got the ethernet hooked up. Nowadays It'll work fine for about 45 minutes, then will drop signal every 5 minutes, the only solution being to unplug it and plug it back in again. Online gaming is not an option. I'm willing to guess that it might deteriorate with inactivity, as it sat unplugged for about 4 months while I had ethernet access, but I wouldn't take a chance again.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's highly portable and makes for a pretty good temporary wireless adapter

Cons: After about a month of using it, it started to drop the connection randomly, and after a few more months and it would just turn itself off and I would have to unplug it and plug it back in to my computer just to have it work again.

1 out of 5 eggsDecent device, terrible software

Pros: Works well when it works.
Decent speed, though not close to 300Mbps.

Cons: Doesn't work very often.
Worthless software.
No support from Netgear.

Other Thoughts: It was fine at first, but after a while I started experiencing the same network connection drops as everybody else. Unplugging it and plugging it back in allows it to reconnect, but only for a few minutes-a few hours. Was using the latest available drivers from Netgear's website, uninstalling and reinstalling was no help. Weirdly, shortly after I gave up on it, my roommate's network card fried, so I gave him this as an emergency replacement, and it worked flawlessly on his computer for about 2 months, but then started having the same problem. So the physical device itself seems to be ok, there's just something in the software that makes it extremely unstable, and once it decides to stop working even uninstalling leaves something in the registry or system files that prevents it from ever working properly again on that computer. Have emailed Netgear repeatedly even using an email address supplied by them in response to a negative review I left on another website, but they don't bother replying. Obviously because they're aware of the issue (how could they not be given reviews here and elsewhere?) but have no clue how to fix it or just don't care to.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage product, even worse customer service

Pros: Decent speed, when it does decide to work

Cons: Unreliable connection
Terrible customer service

Other Thoughts: Stops working every few days. Even the installer fails to work sometimes, making reinstalling the software a hassle.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work as adverri

Pros: Sometimes works as advertised.

Cons: Keeps dropping the signal. I have owned this for about 2 months and now it drops the signal 4-5 times a day. This isn't something that can be fixed with RMA if you read the other reviews. It is a faulty product.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsHelp with Wireless Adapter Problems

Pros: Wireless Adapter worked great for a few months internet connection was solid and dependable. I had some problems with it but below I will describe how I solved it.

Cons: started to experience a lot of problems with the adapter that other people had like connection dropping every 5-10 minutes and having to unplug and plug the USB adapter back in order to get it connect again. This has been happening everyday for a few weeks now. In the Other Thoughts section I will go over how to fix the connection issue

Other Thoughts: Below are a few things that may fix your problem. This will be long and detailed so bear with me

1.Make sure that the software that comes with this adapter is updated. Open the software and click Other, and then click Check for software updates

2.Make sure the DRIVER for the ADAPTER ITSELF is UPDATED. You can do this in a few ways but I find it easiest to do this. Go into control panel<search for device manager<open device manager<look for network adapter<click the arrow to expand the different devices<click on NETGEAR WNDA3100<a window will open up<click on driver tab toward the top<click update driver. Windows will now search online for a driver so make sure you are connected to the internet when doing this.

3. Next you need to make sure that the DRIVERS for the USB ports on your MOTHERBOARD are all updated. You need to go to the manufacturers website of your motherboard to get the latest USB drivers. For instance my motherboard was made by Gigabyte so I had to go to their website and download the latest USB drivers. Usually they have utility software that you can download that will update everything including the USB drivers.

5. Next you need to check the power management on your computer. Go back into device manager and find the NETGEAR WNDA3100 adapter. Follow the same instructions as in Step 2. This time instead of going to driver tab go to Power Management tab. UNCHECK the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

6. If all else fails either your Adapter is really broken. The router is not working properly. Or you should try and see if you can connect your computer using an Ethernet cable as those are very reliable and faster compared to Wi-Fi. Again sorry for this being so long but I hope this helps someone

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsPass on this one

Pros: Win 8.1 compatible. Portable.

Cons: Slow as molasses in January. How they think it gets 300Mbps is beyond me. I've never seen it go beyond 56Mbps and it typically sits in the 5-13Mbps range. Like others have said it disconnects often. It's doing it as I'm typing here (at 5.5Mbps). If it's having a good day, it'll stay connected and have reasonable (but not full) speeds. But, even still, if you reset the computer or it goes to sleep while it's plugged in, when the computer comes back up, your Internet will be disconnected. You have to unplug it and replace it to get it to work again. Even troubleshooting through Windows will not fix it. And yes, I have downloaded the latest software update.

Other Thoughts: Netgear really dropped the ball on this one. I didn't buy it through Newegg because I needed something the same day and this was the only NIC the store had that was Win 8 compatible (which also garners a "wha?"). The button on the side does absolutely zero unless you have the matching router and it doesn't seem to do much good with that from the other reviews I've read. The Netgear Genie is now telling me I am once again connected to the Internet...Joy.

Manufacturer Response:

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your review.
