5 out of 5 eggsPretty sweet and long range

Pros: I have noticed nothing bad about this unit. They rate it as a 'better' of their wireless products... best and ultimate are their higher rated ones. This one cruises and no one is dropping connections any more and it's in the basement with 2 floors above.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsGreat hardware, terrible stock firmware

Pros: Works great in our two-story 3-bedroom house. We have the router on one side of the house (where the modem is) and an office on the other side. The two laptops get great wifi reception anywhere in the house. This router stands up well when we have 10-15 wifi-enabled devices connected to it at once.

Cons: The stock firmware was TERRIBLE. We spent about a year dealing with signal issues whenever we had our baby monitor turned on (Samsung SEW-3037W). Even while the baby monitor was off. Very commonly, the router would lock up and you couldn't even bring up the web console and we had to manually restart it.

Eight days ago I installed dd-wrt and magically all of those issues disappeared. I can now set the baby monitor right next to my computer and it has not impact on my wifi. I also have not had to restart the router in eight days, which was previously unheard of.

Other Thoughts: Great hardware, but Netgear (and pretty much all other residential router manufacturers) really needs to throw in the towel on the firmware business and just ship all of their routers with dd-wrt stock.

2 out of 5 eggs2.4GHz Radio Died

Pros: The USB attached storage is a nice feature to have. However, read/write performance is pretty slow, especially with NTFS.

Cons: The 2.4GHz radio basically died. Signal strength is below -80 dBm at a range of 3 ft. Doing a little research, I confirmend that this is a very common problem with this router. I got about 3 years of service out of mine, so I guess I'm luckier than most. Still, this is totally unacceptable, especially for the kind of money that this thing originally cost. I feel ripped off!

Other Thoughts: Radio death supposedly isn't a problem on the newer revisions (V3 uses a Broadcom chipset instead of Atheros), but I wouldn't dare risk it. No more Neatgear products for me.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry to hear that the 2.4GHz radio has died. Please visit our forums to open your own topic-- hopefully you can find help there.

2 out of 5 eggsI'd pass on it

Pros: Good looking, not overly bright lights, DD-WRT compatible

Cons: Poor range, dropped signal, doesn't like many devices at one time, and short lifesan.

Other Thoughts: For $75, I would have liked to have it last longer than 8 months.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear that your WNDR3700 is no longer working. Please email us at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review and any additional details that can help you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router

Pros: Easy to set up, guest access to wireless, decent security features, rock solid reliability so far compared to my old 802.11g Netgear router that would overheat often.

Cons: Vertical mount only attaches to one end, and so since the wall next to my PC is on my left, it does not sit flush against the wall,

3 out of 5 eggsPretty good, for a while

Pros: Good firmware, decent control interface, dual band with (theoretical) high bandwidth, guest network ability, multiple SSIDs

Cons: After a year or so, N network became weak and useless. I end up using G everywhere because it works everywhere in my house. N is weak, even in the same room with the router. tried all different channels, but nothing works, even in 2.4Ghz mode.

Other Thoughts: It is frustrating that in 2014, it seems like no mfr can make a good, reliable, long-lasting router. They all seem to be somewhat disposable, with a limited lifetime, even you are willing spend more a "good one."

Manufacturer Response:

Hello D M,

We apologize for the issues. If you would like some assistance please go to our forums at forum1.netgear.com. Feel free to ask your own personal question if you choose.

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsLoved Netgear, til I got one of these...

Pros: Looks sharp, all the status lights you would ever want.

Cons: Bought first one, set it up identical to old (Netgear N300 WL) router, continually dropped devices off wifi. Factory reset it, put in new network name, same thing. Started a live chat with Netgear. Switched up frag size, adjusted channels, fiddled with other settings. By the end she said I could factory reset it again or just send it back. RMA'd to Newegg. Got same model as replacement. Not only did I lose signal on wifi when I left the room it was in, but it continued to randomly drop tablets, phones and gaming systems off both bands. Called Netgear, talked to a lady who adjusted settings, including a few extra. Seemed to help. That night, drug my laptop to bed to test it out, and within seconds I lost network signal. Called Netgear back the next day (they had left my case open to monitor the performance) and the gentleman I talked to was convinced it was my modem's fault (used to work for the cable company as an installation tech and had already talked to Time Warner twice with each modem). I lost patience and filled out the refund information on Newegg's site. I say goodbye and good riddance to the second router tomorrow and couldn't be happier to see it go.

Other Thoughts: I loved my N300 from Netgear, solid router. Worked *great* for 2 years. Upping to N600 was a no-brainer! Unfortunately I got a couple bad ones. Went to local retailer and picked up a Linksys. Could not be happier! Breezy setup, much stronger signal strength, and much easier port forwarding/triggering UI.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey M. Thompson,

We are very sorry about the problems and hope that you will consider us again. If you ever need any additional assistance please feel free to email us at newegg@netgear.com.

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsSuper

Pros: Being used in a dorm. Can set multiple wireless access points on different bands and channels. Signal good through 2 walls and several other signals (You need to know what channels are being used around your place).

Cons: Interface could use some work.

Other Thoughts: Has a USB port too share a USB hard drive. Not as good/fast as real NAS but works.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid router

Pros: Easy setup and strong performance.
Arrived on time and was a breeze to setup. We upgraded from an older Belkin router and the difference in performance was impressive.
I haven't tried all the bells and whistles that come with the router, nor have I really tested if the 5GHz band offers better performance, but so far it has been performing flawlessly.

Cons: None really
