1 out of 5 eggsWaste of money

Pros: None

Cons: I tried different things over 90 days. I use a Macbook Pro. Disc for installation is not Mac compatible. Web site was useless. Email support just gave static IP address but did not indicate how to make it compatible with wireless Uverse or Wireless Apple Time Capsule. Wasted almost $40 of my money.

Other Thoughts: My fault for not returning it in 30 days, Newegg offer of $10 tells me they sell products even after people complain or those high ratings are made up. Only buy a product you know and know how to use and has good tech support that understands English

1 out of 5 eggsTRENDnet TEW-737HRE N300 High Power Easy-N-Range Extender

Pros: I trusted the TRENDnet brand and had good experiences with their networked cameras and switches in the past.
I didn't pay full price, it was on sale but that is where the Pros stop.

Cons: Not a good experience with this extender, it does improve the signal in areas further away from my router but it doesn't maintain the connection.
It goes on and on in a continuous loop of connecting and disconnecting.

Other Thoughts: If this typical of the quality of the TRENDnet extenders find a better brand, or at least avoid this model.

3 out of 5 eggsEZ setup; good signal but one issue

Pros: The extender connected easily and did improve the signal strength in the peripheral areas of my existing wireless network.

Cons: The issue I haven't resolved is an apparent conflict with my wireless router (the source of the signal being extended) and the N300. I have a wireless interface for my music output and when the extender is on, the music output is disrupted every 20 or 30 seconds. The problem goes away when I turn off the N300. I have also had a problem with one laptop that repeatedly prompts for the wireless network login when the N300 is operating. My assumption is that my wireless devices are jumping between my router and the N300 and for some reason won't settle on just one. I haven't seen this problem with my smart phone, so I'm hoping I can somehow force my problem devices to only talk to the N300.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

I am sorry for any inconvenience this wireless conflict may have caused you. I would like to know more about how and where your wireless music device operates. Per the Wi-Fi roaming technology, wireless connection should sustain till wireless signal is too weak to stay connected. Then, it will pick up the strongest one to make connection. I suspect this particular wireless device is placed at an equal wireless signal strength zone to both N300 and wireless router, and it constantly drops it’s wireless connection for some reason. My suggestion is to relocate TEW-737HRE at a farther distance from the wireless router when it still maintain good connection to the router. Move your wireless devices closer to N300 or wireless router, and initiate wireless connection again to see any possible differences. If this still doesn’t help please email me directly at adrian@trendnet.com with “Newegg TEW-737HRE” in the subject line and I will contact you immediately to get your wireless devices up and running again. I look forward to your reply soon and hope to restore your faith in TRENDnet.

Warmest regards,

Adrian

4 out of 5 eggsReview update

Pros: TRENDnet support made an excellent effort to help me with my connection problem. I received a follow up phone call from upper tier support that worked with me to make the modem/router setting changes needed to connect smoothly to their TEW-737HRE adapter. The second adapter is now up and running as per expectations.

Cons: I use a Pace4111N modem/router supplied by ATT that apparently does not play well with the TRENDnet adapter. It required going into the router wireless settings and changing the "Authentication Type" in the wireless settings from Auto to WPA2-PSK (AES) by itself. Once changed and applied, the adapter connected. (When we were able to connect to an unprotected network with no problem the support tech turned the attention to the Pace modem.)

Other Thoughts: The reason for the 4 eggs instead of 5, was because of the necessary time spent trying to resolve the problem. I believe the problem was with the Pace modem and not the adapter. The techies I talked to at TRENDnet were very knowledgeable and courteous in walking me through to a solution. Kudos to TRENDnet support.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo down...

Pros: I don't know. I was unable to get either one to connect. If they would have worked the price would have been good. When I add the cost of return shipping of two units, I would have been better off to buy locally.

Cons: I purchased one unit on sale. That Trendnet 737 would not connect to the computer wired or wireless. RMA'd that one back with me footing the postage. Two weeks later the second one arrives. It hooked up to the computer, but not to the router. I then spent an hour on the phone with the nice guy at Trendnet support who eventually decided it was (yet another) bad unit and told me to return it.

Other Thoughts: Unit #2 showed up on my computer as "VIDEOTRON1234" and not 'TRENDnet737" so I believe I was sent a previously returned unit. After a reset it showed up as "TRENDnet737" as per the manual. I now have to decide if I want to try for three or just eat the lost money. If Newegg wishes to contact Trendnet about the issue, the case # is: C131212-457538.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi MrSpeaker,

I am deeply sorry for your unpleasant experiences due to failure of connections to repeater and router. I believe we have looked into your case, and resolved it with you by changing security settings on repeater. If more issues have raised and you need further assistance please feel free to email me directly at adrian@trendnet.com with “Newegg TEW-737HRE” in the subject line and I will contact you immediately to assist. Thank you again for your patience and support.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: The only good thing about this product is the size. It is fairly small and so it doesn't stick out too much from the wall.

Cons: It doesn't work well at all. About every two days I have to reset it with a paperclip and redo all the setting while connected via ethernet cable. Then it will work for a day or so before I have to redo the whole process. I called tech support and they don't seem to know what they are doing either, and since it "works" when they are on the phone, they think the issue is fixed. I already threw the box away thinking that the product would work consistently as advertised because it did for about 24 hours or so. Without the box I can't RMA it back to Newegg, so buyer be aware!

Other Thoughts: My final thought is DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT because it will not work consistently, and for any networking equipment, consistency is the most critical factor in a good device. It also hurt that I bought two of them and neither of them work well enough to use. Now both sit on my bookshelf to remind myself never to buy Trendnet stuff again. $80 wasted! :(

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

I apologize for your overall frustration while not working as expected. If possible I would like to help you set it up wirelessly and position it properly so that wireless stations can connect to it and reach internet as expected. Meanwhile, please download and install InSSIDer via the following link, http://www.metageek.net/support/downloads/, which can help us to go through support smoothly. Please contact me directly at adrian@trendnet.com with "Newegg TEW-737HRE Review" in the subject line and I will be able to assist you immediately.

Warm Regards,

Adrian TRENDnet

4 out of 5 eggsOk so far

Pros: Easy to connect. Just plugged in, Press the WPS on Router then on the Trendnet. I was in business...At first I didn't know if it connected to my router, since it did not show on my network map. So I tested the wireless connection using my Samsung Galaxylll . Unplugged the Trendnet and went into my bedroom( farthest room from my router ). I had 1-2 bars(poor connection). Plugged the Trendnet in my bedroom (about 60-70ft away). Went from 3 bars to 5bars. But of course that is just the connection to the Trendnet, not the actual throughput of date from the router. But was able to load pages very quickly now when it would usually just get stuck in mid loading of a page...
I wanted an extender because I was planning to install a wireless security camera and the router was not getting good enough signal to that area. But now it does....

Cons: Non so far...But only had it for a couple of days....

Other Thoughts: Got it for a good price $29.99...One of the big reason of getting it..Was skeptical about it at first since I've bought other wired extenders(the ones that work using the house electrical wiring) and other plug in wireless devices...Never go the other wireless devices to work and the plug in wired devices stopped working after a week. So I'll update later...

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: It's small

Cons: Continuously drops connection

Other Thoughts: At first I tried to set it up using the popular "add to WDS" system using my router. This worked for a few hours but my lan was very slow. I then tried the manual's instructions, which wanted me to push the WPS button on both my router and the device. Doing this essentially bricked the device. I could not establish a stable connection. No matter what device I tried to connect wirelessly, the connection would break after a matter of seconds. Don't waste your time or money!

Manufacturer Response:
