2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: None

Cons: Never got 5g to work.
The Internet is slow and drops constantly and only a restart will help. I thought at first it was the internet modem, but after testing it is the ASUS. Asus support is horrible and the worst that I've dealt with to date. Overall very unhappy with the product and support. Mine was a refurb.

2 out of 5 eggsOK while it is working

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: -Not bad speed
-Did not fail within 6 month

Cons: -Failed after use of about 10 month
-Range was pretty bad. My 1 bed room apt is about 850sq Feet and few spots I have 0 connectivity. (My router was in the living room and I have dead spots in my room)

Other Thoughts: --It was really hard to pin point out why I was getting 10K+ pings. Unfortunately, on 07/03/2014, this router only works when I do light surfing; however, playing game such as DOTA, LOL, AION or any MMORPG, the ping goes between 100 ms - 99999ms. I am currently using backup router and will contact asus center wince it falls in the warranty period.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: - Very fast, performance is great.
- User interface is friendly and well laid out.

Cons: - Not reliable.

Other Thoughts: I had two of these, and have been disappointed. The first, I bought, and was excited to receive. The router was quick and easy to setup, and the network was back up and running in less than a few minutes. However, after about a week and a half, the router's WAN/LAN ports failed to work properly. The modem would not be seen, and any physically connected devices would either not be able to access the router or even get a DHCP address. The router was reset, firmware upgraded, etc, and while it would work for about 5 minutes or so, it would then promptly fail.

I had NewEgg RMA the first one, and within 45 minutes of setting up the replacement device, the router began to do exactly the same thing. This time, resetting the router's settings did nothing for the situation. It immediately did not work.

I will have to applaud NewEgg, however, for treating me well, despite this. This product should not have failed this often, and as quickly as it did. Beware of this router, and do not buy. It works great when it does, but you're lucky if it works longer than a month, even at that.

I've never bought ASUS networking gear, and this has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

2 out of 5 eggsBroken after 11 months

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Seemed Fast
Feature Rich
Nice UI - easy to update firmware

Cons: Randomly Reboots and can't reach tech support.
The router is downstairs and lots of dead spots upstairs.

Reboots clear the system log making it difficult to resolve problems.

Other Thoughts: I've made multiple phone calls into customer support and dealt with a long hold, provided my name and case number, waited 10 more minutes and then was randomly hung up on. The few words that customer support did say to me I really struggled to understand what they were saying. Either due to the accent or call quality.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Keeper,

Please provide me the case# that was given to you at the time of the call. If you still require further assistance, please contact us—the ASUS Customer Loyalty Team. You may reach me at cl-celeste@asus.com and include case#N140501387 in the subject line. 5 out of 5 eggsBest one I've ever owned

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Super easy setup. Very good range. Stable. Lots of config options. Works with lost of wireless including streaming video, cells, tablets, CromeBk, Macs, laptops, Blu-Rays, and wireless web cams. No issues at all.

Cons: I didn't buy it here. Better price at Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Ordinarily I don't post here if I didn't buy it here but this is a great router. First Asus router, probably won't be my last. Bought it at brick & mortar store because I had two gift cards there.

2 out of 5 eggsNot really there

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Nice feature set with support for both inbound and outbound VPN, wake on lan, IPv6 and more.
Good performance, with the right firmware.

Cons: A lot of performance issues and bugs in the earlier firmwares, most seem resolved in the latest release though.
Hardware quality is not 100%. The 2.4GHz wifi has failed on mine after just over a year. It seems to be heat related, the unit runs really hot and with proper ventilation the wifi will run a for a little bit before crapping out. Letting it cool down for a while and it comes back up but just rebooting does nothing.

Other Thoughts: This could have been a great router but many iterations of firmware needed before it ran properly and now failing hardware takes down the score. It gets two eggs because I really it liked the short time it actually ran as intended.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear mili,

We are sorry to hear your router issue. For product support, please reach out to me at cl-celeste@asus.com and include case#N140501649 in the subject line. 5 out of 5 eggsGreat router, and keeps coffee warm

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: - very fast
- excellent feature set
- good user interface
- VPN functionality
- excellent support

Cons: - runs hot
- documentation well written but not as complete as I would like

Other Thoughts: The router works well but like all AC routers, it runs hot. Not extremely hot, but hot enough to be noticeable. I had one issue with the router interface that caused me to use the email support, which was excellent. No resets, no drops noticed. As always, update to latest firmware as soon as possible.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: This was an excellent upgrade from 802.11n for the wireless. This router is a huge upgrade from my other one. Supports DD-WRT. Internal specs are off the chart for a router. CPU, Mem, and Features are just insane.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: To get the most out of the wireless you will need to upgrade to the IEEE 802.11ac standard. Worth it!

Also this router is super powerful and can really spread service over a broad area and at the same time you will have wonderful speeds and connections no matter where you are!

Cons: None.

This review is from: ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u/3ab

Pros: Amazing signal coverage
Amazing speeds

Cons: lasted 2 days, abruptly stopped broadcasting ssid, triedto reset with no avail, Asus tech support came to the conclusion that hardware failed after a few days.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ronaldo,

Please check and ensure that the SSID is not hidden. You may find this option on the router user interface settings under Wireless>General tab.
