Do I need to pay activation fee to FreedomPop? or activation fee is included.

Accepted Answer

No activation fee.  However, be aware that you get signed up for 3 free months of 500MB premier (3g+4g) service that you must downgrade before the 3 mo window expires if you just want 100% free (4g only) service.  Also, I suggest that after signing up, you uncheck the "top up" option for the account, or they will automatically charge $10 to you credit card when you are within 100 MB of your monthly limit. Overall, I'm happy with the device, though.  It gives me exactly what I want - a little bit of free data/month for no charge.

can I secure it with a password so no one else can use it also how many devices can connect to it at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can password protect the wireless connection to this Hotspot. You will have to connect the included USB cable from your computer to the hot spot in order to properly configure and update the firmware. Just like any other router you should also change the administrator username and password.

the hot spot can allow up to 8 devices to connect simultaneously. You can adjust the number of people who can connect from the menu in the hot spot.

Is this small enough to fit in a pocket?

It will fit but its pretty thick with the battery on the back so it would make a big lump you wouldn't want to put it in the pocket of pants but it would be fine in a jacket.

I started to charge the battery, but it stays at 0 %?
what do I do wrong?

It is hard to say..

1) you may have a defective battery or an old battery that doesn't hold a charge.

2) You may have a defective charger..

3) You may have a defective charging cable.

or

4) You battery is not seated correctly and is not making contact with the 803c device.

Since these chargers and charging cables are pretty generic / interchangeable with many smartphones.. you might try that.

Even when you get the item to work, I have had inconsistent connection at 4G LTE and even when it connects at 4G LTE speed... my unit is mighty slow -- slower than my HTC Evo at Sprint 3G Nationwide speed.

I am wondering if I got a defective unit...

Does Freedompop charge an activation fee to add this device to their system or is the device already activated?

There is no activation fee if you activate this phone on Freedompop. The phone is not activated when you receive the phone.  You need to go to the Freedompop site (or use the link provided on Newegg's site) to start the activation process.

I dont understand regarding Free LTE wireless. You mean that the unit is connecting to any LTE phone company without any fees?

It came with a small manual that covered the basics of setup. It's not too hard to figure out, as the menus on the device itself are easy to get through. It's a lot like setting up a Wi-Fi router.

If I have a current Freedompop account can I still get this?

I believe you can now add additional devices to an existing accomunt.. If not, you can create another Freedom pop account with a different email address and use that. Plus that way you can friend the accounts  together and get additional data per month.

I am sick and tired to try to use the device. Always shows 3G disconnected, 4G powered off and 4G LTE powered off. Then shows 3G network acquired and after the device shows connection failed error 900. What do I need to do to get the device working properly?

This hotspot is sketchy and I gave up after a few months of on/off working service with similar symptoms to what you described.

If your determined to get freedom pop (because of cell service, like I was) purchase a cheap smartphone and call support to place you on the $30/month unlimited plan (you have to call support, not an option on the website). Use usb tethering to a computer (the app i used is now blocked from the play store) to bypass the 1gb tethering limit and you will have unlimited 3g. this method worked infinitely better than the hotspot and you will have unlimited data which was in my case, the only way to go

pro tip: if you buy a phone with hdmi out (motorola photon 4g) you wont need to tether to have basics that the phone can do like email/facebook/netflix just pump it out via microhdmi to a larger screen
