1 out of 5 eggsVery flawed and troubled product!!!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Cheap???

Cons: Loses connection regularly, unstable internet speed, bad support from TP Link.

Other Thoughts: I have had this router for about 2 years-I have received 3 warranty replacements from TP Link and all of them eventually develop the same issue-The internet speed though the router(wireless internet) is very slow. My speed at home is 90Mbps, The speed through the router is between 20-40Mbps. In some cases is even 0.2Mbps. This is unacceptable! I have troubleshooted with TP Link support, updated firmware, changed wireless channels to he wazoo-the outcome was still the same. Now here is the real kicker-when I got the router as brand new, it worked almost flawlessly for about 4 months, after that it was pretty much nothing but trouble. Since I've had 3 replacements already I asked for a refund-I was told TP link does not issue refunds and all they can do is send me another replacement-what for? Your router is useless-I have to reboot it like 5 times just so I can use 1/5 of my internet speed with it...
I ended up with $50 paper weight basically after year and a half of issues and troubleshooting. I got another router and I can't be happier with it-I will never, ever buy a TP Link ever again.

4 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK TL-WR1043ND - DD-WRT info

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Price. Features, Bandwidth utilization, easy to setup

Cons: None, yet. No long term use or reliability to report on yet.

Other Thoughts: This was an oversight on my part, but DD-WRT is not readily available for v3 of this router. DD-WRT was one of the main reasons I bought it as it really improves stability. User forums online will show that people have flashed this router with DD-WRT but there always seems to be a disclaimer. I will leave it stock for now and see how things go. TP-Link has been a good brand for me, I always see an improvement in internet speed tests.

4 out of 5 eggsSpeed and reliability

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Speed
User Interface
3 antennas
Easy setup

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from the reliable WRT54GL when i realized that it would not transmit the full broadband capacity from my isp. This product made all my internet tasks significantly faster. It also took care of my console/pc gaming disconnection issue due to the old routers limited bandwidth. Great product for the price!

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent hardware, horrible firmware that is easily replaced

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Good price, fast router, good hardware.

Cons: The stock firmware is junk. I had to reboot it every week or so as it would gradually increase packet latency until the WAN link was unusable. Happily, you can download dd-wrt and upload a replacement image in minutes. Reboot and voila - an excellent router.

So go ahead, buy this thing. Just replace the firmware before you start configuring it, because the stock software is useless and any configuration you make will be lost when you replace it.

Other Thoughts: I'd give it 5/5 if I had known, out of the gate, that I'd need to flash new firmware. As it is, I had to screw around with the stock one for a while first.

This is what you will need:

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Upgrade

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: I bought this and the TP-LINK TL-WR841N together to replace my old Linksys E1200 which was always giving me problems. I'm in a very old farmhouse with thick walls so the old router barely got a signal out. Cascading this with the smaller one at the front of the house puts out a good solid signal. The E1200's issue was if I switched to Wireless N, every other day the network would drop and not reconnect (WiFi and Ethernet) so I had to stick with B/G and WEP only. Now I can run at full speed. Plus, my media server is ethernet connected so I can drop movie to the server from my main computer much faster with the gigabit ports.

Cons: I had a TP-Link before my Linksys and had no issues at all which is why I decided to go back. The problem I had with these routers were the GUI... they weren't as nice as what my older TPLink had, not as nice looking or user friendly, found myself clicking a lot of tabs to find stuff. As well, the wizard... I ran the wizard 3x and I swear it was different each time. Also, if you upgrade the firmware, it will wipe out all your settings. The lights were a bit confusing as well on the front... the WiFi and Internet indicator lights are always blinking, which usually means something's wrong, but, for this router it means everything is fine. A solid light means something is wrong, which seems to be the reverse of any router I've ever owned.

Other Thoughts: I've used this for a month so far and so far it's been working perfect. It looks great, and the 3 external antenna really put out a good strong signal. I have a few cons, but all fairly minor issues with the router, but since a few I only gave it 4 eggs.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent product

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Easy to setup, plug and play basically.

Cons: Only minor issue getting the web management to work. I had to use the IP Address instead of the fancy web url they provided. The web url does not seem to work at all. Unsure why.

Other Thoughts: Only bought this router so I could connect my Kindle Fire to the internet and have fast speed. This is a big upgrade from the Linksys WRT54GS I used to have.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat can I say?

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Fast. 450 Mbps capable. Great range. Gigabit ports.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Let me explain the title, "What can I say?" I ordered the WR1043ND v1 router when it was on sale for $29.99. The v1 model is the white one that has the original design. I ordered it, paid for it with PayPal, and felt like I got a good deal. Well... the very next day after I ordered it and paid $29.99 for it, the v1 router price was slashed to $17.99. I was not happy and I expressed my unhappiness to Newegg via email. I never received a reply. Well, when I received my router, I was shocked to see that Newegg had instead shipped me the newer WR1043ND v2 wireless router that was on sale for $44.49. What a nice surprise. Thanks, Newegg.

As far as the router is concerned, it is an awesome wireless router with great range. My modem and router are on the second floor of my house and I am able to still get 5 bars anywhere in the house, upstairs or down. I have Comcast Blast 150 Mbps service and this router works well with it. I am 100% happy with this wireless router.

5 out of 5 eggsBest router I've ever owned

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Never lost connection due to router.
Regularly handles 5 devices at once.
No speed issues.
Nice design.
Awesome price.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is the 3rd router I've personally owned and is the best by far. The first was an old Linksys that would regularly lose its connection. After years of living with unplugging things and plugging them back in, I switched to Netgear. It didn't drop its connection as often, but it still happened on a regular basis. Now I have this TP-Link and my connection and performance has been solid since day 1. I don't know if it's because technology has finally improved to the point where dropped connections aren't a thing anymore or if I just found a company that builds a quality product. I may never know because I don't plan on ever getting rid of this router.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so awesome

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: I've only had it for a few days now but it has been leaps and bounds better than the sub par Netgear router I had before.

Also, the antennae are actually 5dbi not 3dbi. Even better!

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I had been using a Netgear WNR1000 that I bought a year ago for about the same price as this Router. I've tried just about every trick under the sun but i could never get the download speed past 8mbs on WiFi (I'm paying for 25mbps and I don't live in a large house). Since owning this router, I get full speeds no matter where I am in the house on all my devices.
