3 out of 5 eggsOverall good router but...

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Price
Light weight
Design
3 antennas
Setup is simple
User friendly

Cons: Plastic
Large in size

Connection is lost relatively frequently.

This is unacceptable to me for 3 reasons;
- Size of my house (50th long)
- Where this router is located (out in the open)
- 3 antennas and it still drops connection multiple times over the course of a few hours from 40ft away? Unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: Light weight, not sure if that's good or bad.
Kind of bulky.
Lost an egg or 2 from connection drops...otherwise 5 eggs could be justified for my uses.
If you're looking to use WIFI for gaming, I'd look elsewhere.
You get what you pay for.
Overall I'd recommend for Web surfing, movies and basic use.

Final note:
Even though it drops connection a lot, it does reconnect within a few seconds so it is minimal.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Basic Router But Lacks Some Functionality

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: I've used other brands and so far I've like TP-Link the best for out of the GUI interface. Detachable antennas are great as you can upgrade them yourself and I have not had to reboot the router like you do on so many other brands when things start acting up.

Cons: I think the interface is very simple to use and has most of the settings you would want. BUT! You can't fitler incoming IP addresses! Example, you want to open port 22 and forward it to a internal server. You don't want port 22 open to the whole world, just from your work's IP address..... can't do it.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything, literally.

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Here's why I'm loving this router:

It's fast. I'm pulling 57mbps+ downloads through this sucker without a hiccup. through a floor AND a wall, diagonally.

It's reliable. Shipped with the latest firmware, takes over half of the configuration changes I commit to it without dropping offline, doesn't slow down unless it's getting hit by a ton of traffic (totally normal, I beat on it.)

It's cool! I have the ASUS N66U and this doesn't get CLOSE to as hot as that does when it's on full tilt.

The 450Mbps "boost" is actually noticable, it's not just a gmmick

The software on it has everything a seasoned IT pro would want minus having monitoring suites and servers (except VPN, it does that!)

Oh, and by the way. $45? Who could say no to that?

Cons: No cons. For $45 I replaced what my ASUS N66U was doing that I paid $165 for....then it got hit by lightning.

Other Thoughts: Do not believe for a second that I'm bashing the ASUS N66U. it was hit by lightning that came through our cable line. over $2,000 worth of tech that was plugged into that router was completely destroyed and yet the router only suffered minimal damage. Then it survived almost 2 more years before I decided its life was done. But this TP-Link is really the bee's knees for this price point!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value!

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Very very good price! I was unsure of the brand but figured it was worth a try. I use this router in an apartment building on the 3rd floor. I can be outside in my truck or in an elevator and no matter where I go I can always connect to this router with my phone and laptop. I am very impressed with the signal strength and have yet to experience disconnecting caused by the router. I Highly recommend this product and will be sure to add this manufacturer to my list!

Cons: The only con I have is if you want to plug an external HDD into the USB port as a network storage you cannot rename the folder. The folder gets a default name and I have not found a way to alter it yet.

5 out of 5 eggsNever had a problem with these

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: The set up is easy, even for the novice. If you are an IT Pro you will find it has a lot of features that you will use. The range of the wireless is very adequate for most home users.

Cons: It's not perfect, if you are looking for a high end router then you are looking at the wrong one. Anyone that has written a bad review of this item has expectations that are unreasonable.

Other Thoughts: We use all TP-Link products and have rarely had any problems with them. You can't beat the price and they are as good or better than the competitors that charge 40% more.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Solid build, performance, and stability. Can't complain about it one bit. And as far as I can tell, this thing has MONSTER range. My smartphone was still talking to this thing out in my apartment complex's management office, which is quite a ways from my flat! I also prefer the gateway interface much better than other routers I have used in the past (Linksys, Netgear).

Cons: Haven't found any so far

Other Thoughts: My first TP-LINK product, and I must say it is definitely a good pickup if you are looking for a budget solution. That said, I have had this thing for 6 months and you never know how long routers will last these days.

I may throw some third party firmware up at some point as the need arises, but as of yet the stock firmware is humming along just fine.

3 out of 5 eggs4.5 years later, dead

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Three ants. Nice HTML UI. Printer port worked great once firmware was upgraded.

Cons: You gotta start the printer program on any given PC to print. Died after 4.5 years. Couldn't get PC Print program to work on one laptop.

Other Thoughts: Mine does not look like this, but it has the same model number (TL-WR1043ND). Mine was the first iteration. Been through four freaken routers in 6 years (different brands), what is the deal with these things?

5 out of 5 eggsSolid router

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Overall this has been a solid router for the last 4+ years for me. I ran stock firmware for a while, but wanted more out of it so I flashed DD-WRT. I use mine behind my FIOS router for better wired and wireless speed and wireless coverage. I've bought 3 more for other family members and haven't had any issues.

Cons: With one of the routers I bought, installing DD-WRT gave me some issues (nearly bricked it). Other than that no issues for me.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent ddwrt / openwrt support

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N300 Router, Gigabit, 300Mbps, USB port, 3 Detachable Antennas / IP QoS/ QSS Button

Pros: Perfect support under stable versions ddwrt and openwrt. under both, i've gone as long as three months without restarting, and even then it was probably my fault.

Cons: transmit power maxes out at 26dbm, but probably par for the course with SOHO devices. nothing that can't be overcome with high gain antennas
