1 out of 5 eggsVery slow

Pros: .

Cons: The WiFi on this router is slow whether copying between computers or on the internet. 11g runs at about 6 Mb/sec., 11n is even slower, even at a short distance. It does this with three different computers. I tried resetting to defaults, and reloading firmware. TP-Link tech support could not resolve the problem, so I returned it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

We apologize for any inconvenience that this device may have caused.

We do have a 2 year manufacture warranty to replace any devices that may be defective.

If you are still using TP-Link and have any more issues then please reach out to our Technical Support team and we will try to assist you further.

5 out of 5 eggsAdvanced router?

Pros: I bought this router to use as a basic AP and external outside antenna. It is difficult to find a router that uses one detachable antenna on the 2.4 ghz band. Most routers in this class are cheap with fixed or internal antennas. So I was shocked to discover that this router does not have a basic AP setting. There is an easy way around this but I had not seen a router without a basic ap mode in a long time. This router has the following modes - client router (Wisp mode), router (hooked into your modem), repeater (range extender), Bridge (2 wireless connection), client (use as a network adapter with something like a console). This a really good feature set. The firmware has all of the settings you would expect on a mid range to high end HOME router. Pretty impressive in an expensive router. Note there are two versions of this router - mine is V2 which means no DD-WWRT.

Cons: No standard access point mode.

Other Thoughts: Did not use PPOE. To use as a basic AP plug into your existing router using LAN ports (not WAN), turn off DHCP, assign a static IP in your other router to the 743 TP-Link router and assign the static IP as the gateway in your 743 router.

I did not do any conclusive tests but the wireless range was much lower using the provided antenna then my existing Rt-N56U router but this was expected as the Rt-N56U is a higher end router.

I have the cable on order to test with my outside antenna - will provide an update once I test with the external antenna.
