TP-LINK’s TL-WDR3600 is a performance optimized simultaneous dual band wireless router combining the blazing fast speeds of 300Mbps using the crystal clear 5GHz band and 300Mbps using the traditional 2.4GHz band. With simultaneous dual band, users have 600Mbps of total bandwidth to power numerous bandwidth intensive applications at the same time around a large home or office setting, where simple tasks such as e-mail or web browsing can be handled by the 2.4GHz band at 300Mbps and more latency sensitive tasks such as online gaming or HD video streaming can be processed over the 5GHz band at 300Mbps, at the same time. With five Gigabit ports and 800Mbps+ hardware NAT, your wired devices will have lightning-fast, lag-free connections and, in addition to 2 USB 2.0 ports capable of sharing flash storage, printers, ftp servers and media players, users can power a robust home media network.

  • newegg 5GHz 300Mbps + 2.4GHz 300Mbps - Concurrent Dual Band Wireless The TL-WDR3600 broadcasts and receives both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections simultaneously at 300Mbps and 300Mbps respective speeds. Like two wireless routers in one, this allows users to run day-to-day applications, such as e-mail and web browsing over the 2.4GHz band at 300Mbps while using bandwidth intensive or latency sensitive applications, such as streaming HD video or playing online games, over the clearer 5GHz band at 300Mbps, at the same time.
  • newegg Versatile 2 USB Sharing Ports Using the TL-WDR3600’s two multi-functional USB 2.0 ports, users can share printers, files and media either throughout the network at home with several different computers or even away, using the device’s ftp server functions so that you never have to part with your files.
  • newegg Blazing Wired Speeds – 5 Gigabit Ports + 800Mbps Hardware NAT With one Gigabit WAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports, the TL-WDR3600 is able to support a robust and extremely fast wired network, ideal for latency-sensitive applications such as HD media and online gaming. With built-in gigabit Ethernet switch and a Hardware NAT function, the wireless router provides powerful data processing capabilities. Its NAT WAN to LAN throughput can achieve up to 800Mbps+ allowing users to unleash the full potential of their networks.
  • newegg IP QoS – Control Your Bandwidth TL-WDR3600 supports IP QoS (Quality of Service), allowing optimum utilization of bandwidth and offering bandwidth control over congestion, preventing bandwidth abuse. In this way, users of a small network receive committed and specific bandwidth, preventing non-critical applications from degrading network performance.
  • newegg One Button Security Setup The TL-WDR3600 features Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) that allows users to almost instantly setup their security simply by pressing the "WPS" button automatically establishing a WPA2 secure connection, which is more security compared with WEP encryptions. Not only is this faster than normal security setups but more convenient in that you don’t need to remember a password!
  • newegg Easy to Use The device comes with a CD featuring an Easy Setup Assistant that leads users through the setup process step-by-step, and even helps with wireless network settings and security configurations. With setups this easy, even novice users can have their networks up and running in mere minutes.

2 out of 5 eggsSave Your Money

Pros: Wireless worked great for 10 months. Reliable: fast speeds; good range in a large 2 story home; zero downtime. Web based router software is easy to access and manage. No crapware included [thank you TP-Link].

Cons: Wireless network started doing strange things: Stopped recognizing password or network name; Updated firmware, reset router, changed network settings, but to no avail. Running Norton IS. Performed multiple diagnostic tests for intrusion, etc.

Other Thoughts: Worked as advertised for under 1 yr. Conclusion: A waste of time and money. Clever and glossy marketing obscured the fact that the product is inferior. By comparison, I have a Belkin Play N600 purchased in 2010 that still runs at top speed.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to review our product.

We are sorry to see that this device stopped working for you.

There are some instances where Norton will conflict with the Wireless profile and stop a connection wirelessly.

Some things that may help would be to reset the Network profile and disable Norton to see if a connection can be made.

If you find that the device does ineed have issues, then you can always RMA the Router and we will replace it with a new one.

Feel free to contact us directly with any issues or concerns.

Best Regards!

1 out of 5 eggsWorst router ever

Pros: Has a long range

Cons: Worst router ever. I am a very technical person, and sometimes even code the router firmware myself to fit my needs. But this router is the worst: it suddenly loses connect, at least 1-2 times a day, and even when it has to be full reset twice to come back up as normal. But it happens everyday and is very annoying. I updated the firmware to the latest, but no use. No scheduling setting to restart the router, like Tomato or DD-WRT. If it wasn't for the rebate I sent out along with the UPC code, I would refund this router. I will install DD-WRT and hopefully it makes it better, or I just wasted $50. I just had to reset router 3 times just when I was writing this review.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for checking out our Router.

We are sorry that you've been having some isssues getting a good signal with this device.

DD-WRT or OpenWRT are other solutions to resolve firmware related problems.

We have seen good reviews for this 3rd Party Firwmare.

If you haven't already updated the firmware to the latest TP-Link software, then you may give that a try from our website at:
http://www.tp-link.us/resources/software/TL-WDR3600_V1_130909.zip

We also have a 2 year manufacture return policy to replace this device if it has any defects.

Please feel free to contact us for any issues or concerns.

Best Regards!

2 out of 5 eggsWifi Transfers Corrupted

Pros: Wired transfers are great and it's openwrt compatible

Cons: When transferring large files over wifi my SHA-1 hashes never appeared the same twice. When transferring the same files over the routers LAN port, or when using my old WRT54GL WiFi, the transfers all have the correct SHA-1 hash.

I updated the factory firmware then also tried openwrt, but the issue is the same with both firmwares. I've replicated this problem on two units. One was unfortunately deployed out of necessity, the other was returned.

Other Thoughts: I'm trying to retire my WRT54GL deployments and was hoping that this was the router, but without reliable wifi transfers i just can't trust it.

1 out of 5 eggsIt died after 10 months

Pros: Only had to reset it about once every other month, when WiFi would quit working.

Cons: After about 10 months, one day the power light comes on and stays on, but reset of the lights just blink no matter what I do. Unable to reset to factory defaults. I had to go to back up router, which worked just fine.

Other Thoughts: I'll update this review to tell you how the warranty process work out.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works
Does most of what you want in a router

Cons: Does not have any QoS as advertised
Range is acceptable, but not great
Certain settings require reboot

Other Thoughts: Would be a great router if it didn't have false advertising.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks good as a wired routrer.

Pros: Competitive price for the specified features.
Gigabyte
Looks good hanging on the wall
Has been running 24/7 as a wired router for about 5 months without so much as a hiccup.

Cons: Non so far

Other Thoughts: The one star off is not for the product but because I have not used it as a wireless router so I cannot review it's wireless capabilities
I have had good luck with TP-Link. network equipment and the prices are usually quite competitive. There is a TP-Link older dual band wireless router as an access point and a TP-link 5port switch on the same network and none have had any real issues.
I have found the TP-Link Tech Support responsive if not always quite effective.
A quirk that tech support was not able to resolve is that with multiple TP-Link routers on the network with PNP enabled Windows has difficulty identifying each . I just disabled PNP as it is a security issue anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsHeckuva Wireless Router

Pros: Bought this to replace an aging G-band wireless router that wasn't serving up enough bandwidth to our mobile devices. Family has 3 smartphones, 2 iPads, 2 tablets, all of which are chewing up bandwidth at any particular time. Setup was fast and easy using the internet browser web-based quick setup wizard via hard-wired attached desktop. Using it for a home network and I was able to also configure a limited-bandwidth separate guest network for the occasional visitor.

Wireless network speeds are approaching max 600 Mbps for wireless, which makes me sad/jealous since my wired PC is limited to 100Base-T Ethernet, so now the family's mobile devices actually download FASTER than my "main" PC. But that's my PC's 100-BaseT card fault, nothing to do with the router.

5 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz issues have not seemed problematic after first install, I live in a vaguely hilly suburban neighborhood with a lot of a/b/g/n wireless networks and wireless 2.4GHz phones less than 100 feet from my router. So far: no issues with all bandwidth settings set to "Auto." It's very configurable so I can limit channel usage if problems do crop up in the future.

I will edit this review with more feedback re: wireless range parameters if possible.

From opened box to ~600 Mbps wireless speeds on all my devices took me less than an 30 minutes. Very satisfied, as long as nothing breaks in the future. Initial ownership experience is awesome.

Cons: None, really. Writing this 3 hours after install.

Other Thoughts: Just in case, I got the 1 year NewEgg replacement plan due to some cautionary reviews on the refurbished model. Hope I won't need it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router for the money

Pros: Dual Band works perfect.. Dual usb ports for storage or printer sharing awesome ...I got all my network sharing my Hp laser printer on the usb port ...

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I was hesitant by some reviews but i am glad i got this...Works for me just fine.. I had a Linksys E1500 what a piece of junk ..I use to like linksys but after that experience never again .. I replaced with this router what a difference ..It was between this router and a netgear router.. I never had a problem with netgear ....

1 out of 5 eggsWas good, but now un-usable

Pros: Works as advertised... for about 10 months

Cons: After 10 months, I can barely use the router anymore. It keeps disconnecting me every 10-20 seconds. I have tried hard wiring into the router and wireless connections, but the disconnecting continues. I update the firmware and still nothing. Even checked the manufactures website for help and found out lots of people have the same problem and have not been helped.

Other Thoughts: Final verdict DON'T BUY THIS ROUTER, unless you only want to use it for half a year.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Setup is fairly painless. Wireless coverage is great. Not one problem during setup and deployment.

Cons: DD-WRT capable, yes it is supposed to be compatible but my question is why? If done wrong, you have a costly paperweight. If done right you have the exact same router except the HTTP interface is more complex giving the average user even more possibilities to create paperweights..
