5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Setup is fairly painless. Wireless coverage is great. Not one problem during setup and deployment.

Cons: DD-WRT capable, yes it is supposed to be compatible but my question is why? If done wrong, you have a costly paperweight. If done right you have the exact same router except the HTTP interface is more complex giving the average user even more possibilities to create paperweights..

5 out of 5 eggsA great router

Pros: It runs OpenWRT very well

Cons: The LEDs are too bright.

Other Thoughts: I bought mine locally a little more than a year ago & put OpenWRT "Attitude Adjustment" on it right away. It's been a very solid and reliable router. Mine is not for sale.

1 out of 5 eggsTP-LINK WDR3600 FAIL

Pros: Super fast router and easy to config for the novice.

Cons: The router failed just after 1 year! I purchased it on 2/19/2013 and it's now 7/10/2014 and it's dead! I contacted customer service and no support. I'm pretty savvy with routers so I've checked the firmware, upgraded it to the latest... still failed. So I switched to DDWRT as well as open WRT and still, failure.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money on this router. Go for another brand. I took a chance on it and figured I'd be like the others who still have theirs working... nope. Mine was 100% stock when it failed. I never even put on DDWRT or openWRT until AFTER it failed.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Performance

Pros: Cheap, Free/Open Source friendly

Cons: Wireless network degredation when locally streamnig high quality video

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure what was going on, but when I streamed broadcast HDTV from a server (hardwired to the router) to a laptop over wifi—as I've successfully done with my old router—performance of other traffic would be significantly impacted, like major latency in ssh sessions over wifi (again, I didn't see that with my old router). Stop the video load and latency for other hosts/connections would stop (start working well again)

A QoS/traffic shaping issue perhaps? I didn't find see any settings that let me adjust such a thing. I confirmed I had the latest firmware.

Maybe opperator error, maybe my network is unusual, but I appreciate others taking the time to share there experiences here, so those are mine.

Pros: Dual band capabilities, low price, works well if not dropping wireless signal.

Cons: VERY UNRELIABLE!!!! This router dropped signal randomly so often. I changed channels, on the router i even changed my ports and call customer assistance but this device did not work as I wanted. I am very dissatisfied with this product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Wireless Router

Pros: Black, Sleek, Large Antennas, Mountable, On/Off Switch for Wireless and Power. Easy Web Utility, QoS, IP Binding. 2.4Ghz/5Ghz Channel

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is the 7th product I bought from TP-Link and is now my number one choice for networking hardware.
The reason I got this router is to let my 5Ghz devices run on the 5Ghz channel and my 2.4Ghz to run on the 2.4Ghz. Once I setup my network, I ran a few different tests and realize that my Samsung phone was the only one that could find 5Ghz channel. My 2x Roku's, Xbox360 (slim), Wii, 2x Laptops could not see this 5Ghz Channel. Even thought these device say Wireless N doesn't mean 5Ghz. Oh well, its not a big deal to me, I can disable 5Ghz channel. Am I disappointed? No. More and more wireless devices will come out that will already have 5Ghz as a standard. I will have to look for it next time.
This was a replacement of the TL-WR1043ND router. I gave this router to a my brother and he absolutely loves it.

The only one thing that I wish TP-Link would change is b/g/n to g/n. Who uses 802.11b anymore?

2 out of 5 eggsTP Link is Networking Junk

Pros: This unit has many networking features, including WDS.

Cons: This unit hardly ever works correctly. TP Link has not updated the firmware for this device for almost a year. The device will randomly quit working completely, and will require a power cycle to work again. If you search online, many are having this issue. If you contact TP link about the issue, they will refuse to replace it or offer any other help. Furthermore, their support barely speak English so understanding them is a huge issue as well.

Long story short, you get what you pay for. Avoid anything TP-link at all cost.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: Just works
Can upgrade to DD-WRT if I feel like it
Only slightly less stable than wrt54gl with DD-WRT

Cons: Had to reboot it a handful of times to return internet access, but that's been very infrequent.
Only slightly less stable than wrt54gl with DD-WRT

Other Thoughts: This is a good step up from the WRT54GL

3 out of 5 eggsNot So Great for me

Pros: Great Design and Build

Cons: Throughput, Wireless Range/Performance was not that great. Tried 2 different ones, Had issues with both.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to check out our Router.

We are sorry to see that you weren't fully satisfied with the range.

You may want to check under the Advanced Wireless settings and verify if the TX power is set to max.

These has three settings that allow you to control the range of the Wireless.

It is always a good idea to update the firmware too as this tries to improve the performance of the Router.

If you have any issues or concerns then feel free to contact me directly at

Best Regards!

5 out of 5 eggsBest Router since my WRT54G

Pros: -Great Looking
-Lots of advanced features and options to play around with
-Good Range
-Easy Setup

Cons: Another person in my house thinks it's hilarious to stream HD netflix whenever they hear that I'm on Battlefield 4. Of course this gets me kicked for high ping. Luckily this router has Bandwidth Control, where I can limit the incoming and outgoing bandwidth to certain IPs. I've got to toy around with it more, but it seems that it only works for users connected via WAN port and not wirelessly. Kind of disappointing.

Other Thoughts: Great bang for buck here on Newegg. Honestly the best router I've owned since my Linksys WRT54G. Every single router inbetween has been complete garbage from several different brands.

Looks: Great, sleek, modern black look. A bit larger than I was expecting, but I do like the dual external antennas for that extra power.

Setup: Easy as plugging it into your cable modem and connecting to the Router via web browser. Updating the firmware was a snap and took maybe 2 minutes. Hardly has to restart for any changes or features to go into effect, which was nice.

Performance - Range: Instantly noticed several things after getting this baby up and running. Range and Speed. The range is impressive, considering I get 2 bars of 2.4GHz on the other side of my decently sized house. And that's also through a floor. The 5GHz doesn't go that far, but the router isn't exactly in the best spot of the house either so, the walls it's surrounded by are probably the cause for that.

Performance - Speed: I'm hardlined to a TP-LINK WA830RE Range Extender. This range extender exists solely for when my buddies come over and my phone, which has a lackluster WiFi antenna. The range extender acts as a wireless adapter as well. I instantly recognized a jump in speed. Connected via 2.4GHz 802.11n I get the same download and upload speeds as if I were hardlined straight to the router. Very impressive. Gaming is smooth and enjoyable on several games including Company of Heroes and Battlefield 4.

Features: For those that are wondering, there are a plethora of features to toy around with on this router. Like literally You you have to scroll down to see all of the categories, many of which have several subcategories. For more advanced users it IS DD-WRT compatible.
