2 out of 5 eggsStyle trumps function

Pros: Appearance, large cup

Cons: Cord storage awkward to unusable. Smoked plastic cover prevents good view of grind. Plastic cover impossible to clean by hand. Cup must be removed to empty contents without spilling. Grind is irregular mix of powder and chunks.

Other Thoughts: It would look really nice next to my Cuisinart Coffee Maker if I was going to keep it.

4 out of 5 eggsGrinds coffee well.

Pros: Grinds coffee. That's it's job.

We have had three of these coffee grinders over ten years. We've only had two real problems with them all this time. First, I managed to burn out a motor on one of them by overfilling the bowl with beans. The other one is that the blades cannot easily be sharpened and dull blades heat the coffee grounds.

Two of our grinders have a tall bowl and a smaller rim in the lid. This makes it easier to overfill the bowl and burn out the motor. The one that I like better has a smaller grind bowl and a larger inside rim, giving the beans some room while grinding and less of a chance of burn-out.

All in all, we really like this grinder and will only change to a different grinder if we can find one that grinds to a desired size and isn't expensive. Since that probably will never happen, we're going to use these grinders forever.

Cons: There is no way to grind the coffee to a consistent size. I listen for the motor to spin to a certain pitch, and watch the grounds as they spin, to determine when the coffee has finished being ground. I stop when the grinds rise and fall in place around the edge -- I like the grounds to be fine. Unfortunately, the grounds under the blades are always finely ground but slightly overheated, but the grounds above the blades are always just a little larger than I prefer. If you like big grounds, i.e., for a french press, or medium-sized grounds, i.e., for a conventional coffee maker, you won't have this problem. If you like tiny grounds or powder, this gets close, but won't get you espresso grounds or Turkish coffee powder.

Oh yes, it is noisy, but all of these grinders are. It's higher-pitched than the grinders you'll find in supermarkets but otherwise about the same amount of noise.

Other Thoughts: We've had a few other coffee grinders besides this one, too. None of them are as durable or attractive as this one, and this one has the best motor by far. As I wrote, we're going to continue to buy and use this model grinder until Cuisinart stops making them.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing on Ten Years!!!!

Pros: I've worked expresso bars while managing a for years Cafe. I know how to make a good cup of coffee, and grinding the beans to the right specs is a part of the process.

I bought this same model around 10 years ago- I still use it every other day and it has never let me down in grinding a fine blend of coffee. May be I'm a little excentric - but I move the grinder back and forth while I run the grinder-to help the beans move downward in grinding them evenly. You don't have to slam it back and forth (lol). Just back and forth briskly. (:) )

Only recently did I decide to once again look around and see-so I don't get caught short if this model can still be had.

This thing is built solid.

Cons: Over those 10 years the button came loose and I had to tape it secure to its seat. Behind that "nada". I decided

Other Thoughts: Not since this model is still available.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Basic Little Grinder

Pros: This little grinder is a workhorse. I received this as a Christmas gift 2 years ago and this grinder has worked daily for that time. For the most part (see below), the parts are of good quality and simple to use. I love the ability to control the length of time it runs as it only has a simple run/don't run button.

Cons: The motor died after two years :( Granted it was my fault.... I over filled the bowl past the recommended level. I heard the grinder whine a bit, but I thought it would be fine..... WRONG! So I am on NewEgg to buy another I liked it so much

Other Thoughts: It is a bit messy if you overfill.... In other reviews they warn of this, but it doesn't go "all over". It will out a few spot of ground coffee on your counter top if you pass the fill line..... or burn the motor if you fill it completely like I did.... so stupid I am....

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this grinder

Pros: None

Cons: Many problems with this grinder: 1) The grind consistency is horrible - some very fine pieces mixed with large chunks. 2) When you fill the cup to the "max" line, coffee spills over the edges of the cup and ends up all over the place. 3) Despite being “dishwasher safe,” the contact in the lid is starting to rust and dishwasher soap is collecting inside the clear plastic on the front (where you can't get to it to clean it). 4) The cup gets stuck on the base (unlocked, but the blade is somehow suctioned onto the base), and no amount of tugging and pulling can get it off. Based on other online reviews, many other people have had the same problem, but Cuisinart customer service doesn’t seem to be aware of this problem. Although I’ve only used it 5 times, it’s out of warranty, so Cuisinart didn't care that it's defective. They said I could buy a new one. Right, like I'd buy another one.

5 out of 5 eggsWe love it

Pros: We've owned this grinder for over four years. We did lots of homework, reading reviews before we bought one and are quite happy. We're not coffee snobs, but love the fresh taste of ground coffee. It only has one speed, but that does not matter. The longer you hold down the button, the finer the grind. Nice and simple. We've never even cleaned it! It's a high quality product. I said to my wife this morning right when I finished grinding some beans,"Do you remember how much research we did before we bought this grinder? How long have we had it? It's a great little grinder. I'm gonna jump on-line and write a review." And so it is!

Cons: Loud. You're not gonna grind beans and let anyone sleep.
