3 out of 5 eggsExcellent range, longevity not so good

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: Title says it all. Tremendous flexibility with mounting and excellent range. In my particular instance, I positioned the antenna on top of a computer hutch and was able to get 5 bars to a router two rooms away and through two walls..

Cons: I've purchased an EW-7128G and two EW-7128GN adapters. the "G" version lasted almost two years before croaking, the "GN" variety each lasted just over a year.

Other Thoughts: I protect my computers with APS battery back-ups, and purchase only top quality, top rated, power supplies, so my components are fed stable power and current spikes are virtually non-existent. Don't expect these cards to last much past a year. These adapters are cheap, so you probably need to buy a least two because after a year you'll in all likelihood need to replace the first.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing with our EW-7128Gn.

We have 2 years warranty for our products, therefore, you may contact us for replacement service. Please feel free to contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ".

1 out of 5 eggsEDIMAX EW-7128Gn Wireless Adapter

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: This had a very long range of connection. I could connect to people that were down the street from my house with this, but i have my own internet thank you. Stable and speedy connection.

Cons: After a couple weeks, this adapter began to cause 'blue screens.' After talk to their tech support and refreshing the drivers, my system continued to experience the same symptoms. Might be a hard-ware imcompatibility, Hard-ware defects, or misuse of product, but Edimax failed to give me a product that worked with my system even after talking to their tech support.

Other Thoughts: If this was not a system breaking piece of equipment, then it would have preformed very well and it did for a short while.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

Did our support suggest you do a "system restore" so that your computer can be restored to a working condition?

We have 2 years warranty for our products. You may contact us for replacement service. We can be reached at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: Product arrived quickly.

Cons: Unit was DOA.
Shipping costs for RMA are $9.10... for an item that costs $20

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We apologize for the DOA issue you are experiencing.

Maybe the card just needs to be re-installed the software driver into your computer.

Do you mind contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us "? Our support team will be more than happy to be of assistance.

Best regards,

5 out of 5 eggsIt does what it's supposed to

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: As advertised; a product that does what its intended for.

Cons: Haven't come across any in two and a half years of owning it.

Other Thoughts: I initially bought this because I couldn't have an Ethernet cable running through my house, but when I moved I was able to plug into the router without any issue.

Currently thinking of using it to set up a Wi-Fi surround system as I have no desire to use Wi-Fi for anything else.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of money and time

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: It worked well, for a month or so.

Cons: After a month, I started getting from .59-1.02mbps download speed on my speedtests. I couldn't load a webpage without a severe delay, or even youtube videos (even if waiting for buffer).

Other Thoughts: I spent hours troubleshooting, trying all the *fixes* noted in comments before me.. uninstalling and reinstalling various drivers (generic and the brand one, with and without the utility), moving around the antenna, etc.

The day after contacting customer service (during their office hours there was no answer, so I left a message), they phoned me back. We spent 58 minutes and 13 seconds on a long-distance call (now I'm afraid of looking at the cell bill this month)... only to have the support go over everything I'd already done the day before. Essentially, nothing changed except that she recommended me changing channels on the router and then sending in an RMA if that didn't work.

Don't waste your time on this. The call for tech support will probably cost me more than the item itself, not to mention return shipping costs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry that our tech support could not resolve the issue for you.

We have 2 years warranty for our products. If the wireless adapter is defective, you surely can request to get a replacement from us. Just visit our site at http://us.edimax.com. Go to Tech Support. You can fill out the RMA Request Form then we will receive your request.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of money

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: It worked fine... for the first month. Easy to install; I just downloaded the driver from their website.

Cons: After the first month, my download speed went to .59-.99mbps. My upload speed is .13-.18mbps. (speedtest.net)

Considering I bought this for my recently built desktop, specifically for playing mmo's, it was completely useless.

I tried moving the antenna, re-installing the driver+utility, uninstalling, re-installing just the driver for this product, repeating with the driver for EW7711ln, etc (of course with reboots between). I tried every "fix" listed in the review thus far. None worked.

Call their "tech support" and you won't get a response, not even within their 9am-5pm PST office hours.

Other Thoughts: $15 down the toilet- I now regret not purchasing a better card, or even a usb plug-n-play styled one. Sure its *just* $15, but I expect it to work longer than a month for that.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

If you called us and did not get a response, you can leave your number with our voice box. Our customer service will definitely return your call as soon as they can.

5 out of 5 eggsEDIMAX EW-7128Gn

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: Uninstalled old adapter in device manager, installed new adapter, turned on computer, looked in device manager, raillink drivers were automatically installed by Microsoft windows 8.1. Getting full signal 5 bars. Great card, up and funning in less than 5 min.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This $15 card replaced my $50 Linksys wmp600n which crashed my computer every time it resumed from hibernation.

3 out of 5 eggsUnstable win WPA2 mode.

This review is from: EDIMAX EW-7128Gn N150 PCI Wireless Adapter for PC and Mac

Pros: Great signal coverage. I can easily get good wifi signal in every room of my house as well as out into the yard. Being able to place the antenna up high and away from obstructions really helps. The wireless access point applet that comes with the card is easy to set up/use/monitor.

Cons: The card is unstable in WPA2 mode. The card will work fine for a while, then slow to a crawl or freeze entirely. The radio is still working properly; I'm getting good signal strength, just no data. Disabling and re-enabling the adapter would usually solve it for a while but an occasional hard-restart of the machine was required to get it working again. I tried several different drivers for it (including the chipset manufacturers drivers and older EDIMax drivers) as well as two other access point applets to no avail. Also tried using it in my sons WinXP Core2Duo machine with the same results. Switching the access point to WPA security mode solved the issue and it's been running without interruption for weeks now but I really don't like running on outdated encryption.

Other Thoughts: The card serves 3 android phones in our house and has been going strong for a couple months now. Overall good buy if you don't mind missing out on WPA2.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the difficulty you are experiencing.

Do you use the wireless adapter as a software access point to serve 3 Android phones so that you do not need a Wi-Fi router? If that is the case, please open our Wi-Fi software and remove the check for Bandwidth 40Mhz. Maybe this can help your Android phones connect to the software wireless access point of EW-7128Gn.

Please contact our tech support at (408)988-6092 or write an email to " support@edimax.us ". Our tech support team will assist you with the issue. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Best regards,
Edimax Tech Support Team
