1 out of 5 eggsFind something else.

Pros: The box they were packaged in was not damaged.

Cons: I wish I could post some photos of how these arrived. I can't even begin to describe how awful the soldering was on the back side of the board. Solder splatter, what looked to be corrosion, a white chalky film. Never seen anything like it. Gave both of them a bath in DeoxIT and scrubbed them with a toothbrush (don't tell the girlfriend) and they looked better. The corrosion, or whatever it was reappeared on one of the cards but some more DeoxIT and a tooth brush finally got rid of it. I had to pick off the chunks of solder that were randomly tacked to the back of the board and checked out the connections under a microscope to make sure there were no shorts. I ended up removing the power connector from one of the cards and hard wiring a pigtail connector in its place. Cleaner install but I'm still afraid to plug the thing in. Don't want to chance screwing up something on my new build because of a sloppy 18 dollar card. Should have just sent them both back but I tend to procrastinate quite a bit...

5 out of 5 eggsTalk about support

Pros: Fast, and a convenient way to get USB3

Cons: Not a con. You need the right driver. If you can't find it, write support.

Other Thoughts: Had a problem with it shutting down randomly. Support had it straightened out in a week. Got a response from them the same day I wrote.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Item!

Pros: Easy to install. Just make sure you load the drivers on the CD that comes with the hardware.

Cons: Slight problem with fitting the card in the case. Probably would be more of a specific problem to my hardware set up.

Other Thoughts: Running Windows 7. No recognition problems or problems with the drivers under Win 7. Als used the 19 pin header on the card for a front set of USB 3.0 ports and it worked flawlessly in support of those ports.

1 out of 5 eggsHooToo HT-PC002 USB 3.0 Port

Pros: None

Cons: Computer would not recognize the hardware installation. Driver were uploaded correctly and USB 3.0 slots were energized. USB 3.0 devices would not load up. Returned and purchased another brand, which work on the first try. Note: only slot available for installation on motherboard was the PCI-Express x-16.

1 out of 5 eggsReally bad

Pros: Cannot recommend.

Cons: Very problematic.

Really, try to find a different card.

Other Thoughts: I should have sent it back to Newegg right away. It would stop working and I would have to open the computer and disconnect i, restart and it would be OK for a while, then stop again. One day the puter stopped booting and I could not find a problem. I accidentally unhooked it and to my surprise had a live puter again. I spent days trying to figure this one out. Read warnings by others but just thought they had bad luck.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well after installing drivers

Pros: - Small card
- Has 20 pin connector to feed a pair of front panel USB ports.
- Comes with SATA style power cable adapter

Cons: - Instructions are unclear.

Other Thoughts: This card works well as an economical method to add USB3 capability to an older computer.
Regardless of the OS that you are using you MUST install the drivers for USB3 functionality to work properly. Without the drivers, the card SEEMS to work OK, but it does not, failing to mount hard drives. The drivers are signed and made by VIA, so they should be OK.
The "19 pin" connector is actually a standard 20 pin USB expansion port, so it is very easy to add a front panel 3.5" adapter to get 4 USB3 ports out of the card directly.

3 out of 5 eggsGood card, cheaply built

Pros: Good little card, does what you need it to. I'm getting a consistent 100MB/s with my 750GB external HDD in it's USB 3.0 enclosure. Very compact card, and doesn't get warm even under load

Good price for what you get. Haven't had it long, but it seems to be holding up ok.

Cons: When I got it, the back of it looked like someone was eating Cheetos while they were putting this thing together.. 2 of the solder joints weren't even touching the board, and multiple joints had huge bubbles in them.

After fixing these, the board worked fine. I didn't test it with the joints like that without fixing them first, so I can't say if it worked or not before hand, but it's working now, but I still shouldn't have to fix other peoples work.

Would have been a solid 4 out 5, maybe even a 5 if it weren't for these.

Other Thoughts: Good card if you're on a budget, but clean off the Cheeto crumbs before you put it in your machine..

3 out of 5 eggsGood hardware, shoddy drivers

Pros: Low profile card, comes with full and half length brackets.

Molex power connector for additional power, comes with SATA/Molex adapter.

Fairly good performance, seems to work without bottlenecking my USB 3 hard drive. I cannot give detailed numbers on performance as I don't have anything that works nearly as fast as USB 3 is rated for.

Cons: SATA/Molex connector seems to be pretty low build quality. Part of the adapter's SATA connector broke off when removing it from my power supply's power output, at which point I just ran one of my power supply's Molex connectors.

The drivers used for this VIA chipset are pretty shoddy: When inserting a USB device, or when shutting down the system, sometimes the machine will blue screen, which doesn't happen with my motherboard's onboard USB. If you have Windows 8 or later, or if you use Linux, I would recommend this device as those operating systems do not require third-party drivers for USB 3 support, and this USB card works just fine for those operating systems.

For Windows 7 or earlier, I would absolutely avoid using this card as you must install their shoddy drivers for it to work.

Other Thoughts: The card came with white fingerprints all over the top side of it. Really?

5 out of 5 eggsGet USB 3.0 two ways in older computers

Pros: Installs easily with provided mini-CD Works no problem with Windows 7. Just go get a cup of coffee while it installs. Provides both two backpanel USB ports and a standard 19 pin header for connection to maybe a front panel card reader/USB port (2.0 or 3.0). Fits in a PCI-express slot and includes a backplate for use in a low profile chassis.

Cons: Installation is very slow and doesn't act like it is working but it is.

Other Thoughts: I didn't test it's speed.

2 out of 5 eggsFrequent disconnections

Pros: When working, works fine.

Cons: The card had several issues since I got it and I think it may have finally crapped out. Devices connected to it apparently can draw power, but will not show up as connected. Multiple attempts to fix it yielded no results. Likely going to scrap it at this point.

Other Thoughts: The power connector is badly placed.
