can I create mp3 formats using this mike with sound recorder?

It is my opinion that any thing that you can use on an mp3 format recording using this mic will work. This will work with recording in mp3. The question I have is are you planning on recording music with this mic? If so you will, in order to get better quality, need to have the music recorded via a closed loop. In other words. If you plan to record music with this mic, while you can do that, the quality will be lacking of the original as the open, through the air music recording will not be up to the same potential music quality that the music was to begin with. It is just the nature of the beast recording music over a mic. Sort of like playing music back in the yahoo chat room days. If you were able to do that it was always better to broadcast it via a closed loop as in not from the mic. However if you are wanting to sing to a closed loop as an accompaniment the mic quality will be great for voice. The hard part is to get it to record both the closed loop music and the mic voice. You will need a mixer for that so that they both go to the same source and are mixed at the same time without the need for the music to be recorded over the air which would translate to lower quality on the music side. So your question??? Yes you can record mp3 and with great quality watch the pattern and level until you get it dialed in.

Question 2

How long is the cable connecting to the computer? I need to get from the wall to the middle of a conference table and the normal. 6 foot won't be good. OR, if it is short, can I get an extension.

Its short and not the best quality. I used it twice and had to replace it with a longer, more heavy duty cable. I would not recommend an extension if at all possible.

Can I use this Mic for VoIP from my computer?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can use it with VoIP (I use it for skype and teamspeak), but you might need to manually select the mic from the options/settings for whatever program you use.

Question 4

How much background sound does this pick up??  My son is a gamer and he needs a microphone that is good quality but will not pick up his mouse or keyboard clicks (or other background sounds) while he is playing.

It is a very sensitive microphone, even on the lowest gain setting possible. It will most likely pick up mouse and keyboard clicks, and if your son has a particularly loud PC it might pick up some of that background noise as well.

If background noise is a major concern, then a headset microphone may be a better option. But they are far more prone to breakage, and won't have as good of sound quality.

I would recommend this microphone if your son records video game commentaries, because the background noise can be taken out with audio editing software. But if it's only intended to be used for communication with other players in game then a less expensive microphone would be a better option, because the difference in sound quality will not be noticeable.

How clear would this mic be for recording class room lectures (being roughly 5-10 feet from instructor)?

I actually let my band instructor use it for recording both his voice as he lectured, and the playing of his instrument. We were, however, in a large, sound-isolated room, but it did work well.
It is mainly used as a cardioid microphone, although it does have the four settings; Omni-directional (all around), bidirectional (forward and back), stereo (left/right, mixes for depth), and cardioid, which is front-facing and is very effective for things like voice-overs, and single vocals.
For your choice of use, I think it would work well, however I would recommend getting something to block the noise coming from behind your microphone, being as students generally generate idle noise. This microphone is sensitive, and will usually pick up room-tone, white noise, and other various things.
I would recommend getting a lavalier microphone over this for the recording of solely yourself as you present lectures, as it will allow you to be mobile, and it would probably not be affected by other noise in the room, and you will not need additional items for cancelling out sound in the room.
A model I would recommend is the "Rode smartLav+ Lavalier". I have used it previously, using a 3rd Generation iPod, and the audio is great for the price-point. However, again, you won't be able to hear anything else in the room very well.

Question 6

Can this be used with a mic stand or no? my friend suggested this and said i needed the pro version if i wanted to use a mic stand. i wanted to know if this is true or not before i get this

I purchased this for my dad to use. Granted he uses this as a desktop model, it does have the thread hole on the bottom end of the mic for you to thread it onto a stand. I don't see why it would not work. Of course, I am not going to promise this to be 100% accurate, but it does have the threads for it. Hope this helps!

Can I play music through Google music and record it at the same time with a recording program using this microphone?

Yes -- BUT, if you're trying to record music, through a Microphone, then it's not really going to matter what kinda microphone you use.  Recording sound/music coming out of a speaker with a microphone is always going to be a bit finicky -- doable, but tricky.

You're better off just using a recording program to directly record the music that's being played through your audio device.  Many programs can do this, they usually call it "Desktop Audio" or if they don't have that option, then the recording device to use would be Stereo Mix.

In short, it's better off to just use a recording program than to spend a bunch of money on a microphone that takes a bit of tweaking to make sure it records your speakers properly.

Question 8

If I plug in my headphones to the headphone jack on the mic, will I still be able to hear sounds on my computer? Or just my voice?

It might have compatibility issues with sound drivers, and you might not be able to hear other sounds while recording. It's one of the unfortunate issues with some computers, and this mic. This is coming from a user of a digital audio workstation. This mic is useful if you are willing to work out the kinks, and it's especially good with radio shows, but using it for music might be a bit complicated at times, depending on your software, and the version of windows you have.

Question 9

Is this product compatible with Windows 10?  As it says windows 8.1 on system requirements but figured I'd ask someone before I decide to for go it, as I would really prefer this mic to do voice overs with.

Hey, Rinouka R. I have Windows 10 and it works fine. I use it for audio recording in Ableton Live, video voice overs in Adobe Premiere, and video gaming. It should work for you, good luck!

Can the Blue Microphone Yeti connect to my computer via 3.5 mm audio jack?

It will connect via usb, no set up needed, is recognized instantly when pluged in. I use it for voice and instrument speaking and recording. The Flange sound often attributed to a cam mike, disapears with the Blues Snowball mike.
