The reviews say the track pad is really bad. What are the cons about it exactly?

the track pad is fine, it is a little sensitive to two finger commands. left clicking while moving the mouse generally zooms in.

how many USB 3 ports on this machine?

Theres 3 in total. 2 on one side, one on the other side next to the drive

It's in the add... Click on "Specifications" and scroll down... it has quantity 3 USB 3.0 ports.

It's not IPS. I heard from someone that IPS is not good for gaming but not sure why.

Not that I saw. I just swapped out the shipped one (Win8.1).

yes, i bought it and upgraded the 256 SSD to a 512 SSD its max memory is 16gb.
