Some applications require a tougher, more reliable machine than others. Servers, render farms, almost anything that needs to keep on ticking so you don't take a licking. This chassis might be what you need: 645 watts of power supply with redundant cooling, four fans are hot-swappable, and eight hot-swappable drive bays mean fast repairs even while still online. Also included are two peripheral and one floppy drive bay.
Compatible with E-ATX motherboards and dual Xeon processors, it has six expansion slots and two USB ports. No taller than four rackmount units, it can also be used as a tower unit, with status lights for power, power failure, network activity, and heat warning. Two buttons control the important things: power, and reset.
Rugged, redundant, nigh unto bullet-proof, this chassis is truly worthy of your consideration. But that's just my opinion; make up your own mind after you look it over.
Pros: Second time I bought this case, need I say more. Backplane works with SATA or SAS. Combine it with a Supermicro E-ATX board and all the cabling will go from the outside edges without disruption of air-flow. Strong, heavy, tightly fit case with an excellent back-plane. QUALITY!!
Cons: Third party power supplies do not match up with the bolt pattern.

Excellent Pedestal Case
Reviewed By: JF0517 on 1/13/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: This case is quite well designed and extremely sturdy. Certainly a number 1 choice for a server that might need to be standing vs rack-mounted. Hot swap bays are easy to use and sturdy. Overall a very high quality pedestal server case.
Cons: Space can be fairly tight when installing large server motherboards. The relatively short 80 mm fan cables are somewhat of a problem if you are trying to connect them to variously positioned motherboard fan connectors.

Pros: Bought this to house my E-ATX SM board. Everything just "fits" as it should. For everyone who complains about the fan wires being too short, if you had a SM board which this case was designed for, you wouldn't have any issues.
Very solid construction; hotswap backplane; air shourd; My Intel BXSTS100A fan/heatsink fits under the shourd; easy to retrieve any component in the case like the CD ROM drive without needing to take apart the entire case
Cons: Non-modular power supply; only a single 8 pin CPU power plug (had to use the 4 pin plug with an adapter to power both CPU's); no SATA power connectors or adapter plugs; SM offers the exhaust fans as options, they should be included.

NEEDS MORE POWER
Reviewed By: Ashmatash on 9/11/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Very high build quality, which is almost always typical of a Supermicro.
Cons: Shoddy/misleading documentation: Supermicro's product website claimed that this chassis configuration supported dual Intel / AMD processor configurations. They should have elaborated on this claim. My new Asus Z8PE-D12 dual Xeon board requires an 8-pin eps connector for EACH CPU. The included power supply provides but only a single 8-pin connector.
Other Thoughts: One of the non-removable mainboard mounts had no matching grommet to pair with on the Z8PE-D12. To further complicate matters, two of the grommets on the mainboard had no matching hole for a mounting post inside the case. I'm not sure if I should blame ASUS or Supermicro for this problem. The only plausible solution at this point will most likely void someone's warranty...
