Good case, no SATA on power supply
- Pros: Solid case, heavy, sturdy. Lots of fans.
5.25" bays could house a 3.5" HDD without needing brackets to bring the total potential drive capacity to 10 drives if you have no need for an internal optical drive.
- Cons: The power supply has no SATA power, was a tight squeeze to put an EATX motherboard in the case (luckily i have small fingers).
Newegg claiming this has redundant power is false, the PSU is not redundant.
- Other Thoughts: Wouldn't hesitate to buy another one, just need to order a SATA power adapter with it.
SuperO quality
- Pros: - MASSIVE airflow
- easy to manage wiring and drives - air duct keeps memory/CPUs cool - did I mention MASSIVE airflow! - doubles as air filter for large room (clean filters often!)
- Cons: Mobo needs 6 fan headers (or Sunbeam MFPP)
NOT a suitable case for a quiet environment
Super Solid Screaming Deep Dish Goodness...
- Pros: - Very solid build quality
- Spacious - Heavy, chunky power supply (see caveat...) - 8 hot swap bays, included SATA backplane can be swapped for SCSI - Copious front panel LEDs - Lockable front panel - Support for passive CPU heatsinks via fan hood
- Cons: - Very sparse documentation with no explanations of some headers or disassembly processes
- Other Thoughts: These things were cons in my case, but are things I can't fault the product for. You should likely keep these factors in mind, however. I used this case for a Core i7 based workstation. For servers these are less relevant.
- The fans are ***unbelievably*** loud. There are *6* *5000 RPM* fans in this beast. This provides a phenomenal amount of cooling, amd the fans are all 4 pin PWM controlled, but you'll need something like part# N82E16811999171 to make this thing in to a friendly desk-side companion. At 10% duty cycle this thing'll support 4 HDDs, a GeForce 260, 6 memory modules and an overclocked Core i7 running Prime95 in a 70F degree room for hours and hours.
This case is very, very deep. This may be a problem for some on size grounds, but for me the major consideration was the reach of certain internal cables. Specifically, I spec'd a front panel card reader, audio jacks and USB/Firewire device. While I certainly blame the card reader I think its cables would have been
