4 out of 5 eggsGood mid-range server case

Pros: This is a good case for a small server where a rack is not available. Comes with a decent power supply. Mates to Supermicro motherboards very well.

Cons: First, the 3.5" hot-swap trays are not compatible with their other server cases like the 745-series (for example). They look ALMOST identical, but these trays have the LED windows built-in. The other trays have zero lighting on them and rely on lighting on the case itself. If you already have a pile of Supermicro drive trays, don't expect them to work in this case.

Second, this case should include the 120mm fan in the back since it really requires Supermicro's special bracket for it to be secured properly. There's a flange on the back that blocks the two outer screw holes. The front 92mm fan (combined with the 120mm low-flow fan the power supply has) is simply not enough to keep even a modest server cool. The Supermicro part number for that rear 120mm fan is FAN-0077L4

Lastly, the power supply is strong enough for only a modest server but don't expect more than that. Forget high-end graphics cards or RAID arrays. They're ATX sized, but don't have the ATX mounting holes.

Other Thoughts: The company I work for is using these now as an alternative to some generic 4u rack cases.

The really nice thing about this case is the product support from Supermicro. Their website is probably the most usable of any OEM - just go to the product page for a given item and you'll find extensive specifications, product manuals, part numbers for original and add-on parts, and drivers (if applicable) - all in one place.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Server Solution

Pros: Hot swap SATA/SAS 4 bays. This is the best part of the case.

Cons: Only one fan pwm 4pin located in the front bottom.
Mounts for the 120mm fan no room to screw two of the fan mounts.

Other Thoughts: I pre-ordered the 120mm fan with rubber mounts. Their was plenty of room for my dual Xeon server board. E-atx . For some reason the fixed screw mounts I had to tweak them to line up with the holes. The Xeon heatsinks mounted directly to the stand off's without issues. I had a 850watt power supply to replace the 465watt as the stock one is powering everything for now. Three drives 5 fans with my power management the whole machine is quite. No 3 pin fans used here.

4 out of 5 eggsGood basic server case

Pros: Bought this to use as a file/print server and I'm happy with it so far. Works great with supermicro motherboards, just a single connector for the front panel buttons and leds. Hot swap is also nice, but a better manual would be good. The included fan is PWM and I added a 120mm PWM fan in the back.

Cons: Two of the 120mm fan screw holes are covered from the rear so you can't use generic fan that would just screw in from the outside. Power supply should be larger for a case this size.

4 out of 5 eggsIt fits EATX motherboards

Pros: This case does fit EATX boards just fine. The Supermicro X7DA8 fit just fine and it's an EATX motherboard. Hot-swap bays are cooled by a duct that diverts air from the front case fan up to the hard drives. This is a small case for workstation, not as tall or as deep as some server/ workstation class cases. The power supply is EPS12v, with a 24 + 8 + 4 pin power configuration. The power supply does have 2 6pin PCIe power connectors.

Cons: The front hard drive door locks, but is made of thin plastic and pops off the hinge easily. The power supply is just 465 watts limiting some configurations. The power supply is installed in a proprietary manner, this could limit replacements.

Other Thoughts: I did add a 120mm case fan to the back. The case itself is not loud. The front 80mm fan and the power supply's 120mm fan are average noise levels. I do have a pair of loud CPU fans, but this is independent of the case.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Case, with a few glitches...

Pros: Very nice layout (fits full-size ATX boards), decent hot-swap hard drive bays...

Cons: Power supply is on the small size, does not include rear 120*38mm 4-pin fan

Other Thoughts: I added the SuperMicro 120*38mm fan, system is still nice and quite, but now runs very cool. System includes Intel DX58SO motherboard, i7 920 CPU, 6GB of Crucial DDR3 RAM, GTX280. Runs Crysis Warhead like a dream on high settings with no AA at 1920*1200. And did I mention that I LOVE Vista Ultimate x64???

1 out of 5 eggsNot a Nice Case

Pros: Hotswap drives are nice to have.
The Packing was great.
It looks nice.

Cons: The case does not fit EATX motherboards.
It is not quiet, it is as loud as a REAL server case and has lousy airflow in comparison. The powesupply runs hot enough to fry eggs.

Other Thoughts: I cant think of any reason for someone to buy this case.
Supermicro states its nearly silent and would be a great SLI case. You would overheat running a fast cpu, gaming memory and SLI in this thing. I bought it for a home/small business server and it fails miserably.
