2 out of 5 eggsArk - WHAT happened??

Pros: I got my server built in the case.......after a lot of work

Cons: Quality control on these server cases has slipped over the years.. I have bought a total of four of these cases in the last ten years, and the first three were excellent.. This last one I bought has been terrible..

Here's a few notable things I found wrong....

The top drive 5.25" drive bay is unusable, will not accept a drive.. I had to use the middle drive bay instead..
Numerous scratches inside the case.
Poor paint job in some areas
Side rails were nearly impossible to remove (over torqued screws from the factory)
Hard drive bay was nearly impossible to get back into the case correctly
Top cover rear screw hole was out of alignment, thumb screw was very hard to get out
Plastic fan holders both had broken latches, but were still usable

Other Thoughts: Would I buy this case again if I needed another server case? Probably not.. Were the quality of these cases like it was years ago, Ark would be a great case to buy, but somewhere along the lines, ARK dropped the ball on quality.. I apologize for the negative review, but ARK has disappointed me this time around..

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Airflow and Durable construction

Pros: Construction-- I bought this originally to fit inside of a roadcase that I had built. Well actually 2 of these. The held up great for 3 years. I didn't have any hesitations when they were in the rack.

Airflow- It is great. There is enough room inside the case to allow heat to come off of the components and be spit out. Granted I bought replacement fans for the ones that were stock. I do that simply because of noise reduction.

Components- I have not had an issues with heat sinks or graphics fitting in. I haven't done many tweaks since first building the beast.

Cons: Have not found any.

1 out of 5 eggsVERY POOR WORKMANSHIP!

Pros: Less expensive than some of the other cases.

Cons: I have previously purchased the exact some case approximately 6 years ago and found it to be a great value and that is why I chose to replace my present server with another one. This case is definitely a "lemon". The cage for the optical drive was an extremely tight fit, too tight. Many of the fasteners holding the case together were very poorly done to the point the threads were nonexistent. The entire fit of the case was not good. I would not purchase another one of these cases again. Their quality has clearly slipped.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this product and I would not purchase another one from this company.

3 out of 5 eggsJust okay

Pros: Decent design and looks good, strong

Cons: Build quality is poor. I wasn't able to remove some of the screws. The front face / cage hits the handle bars when coming down; this is because the handle bars weren't assembled perfectly straight. No instruction manual and not much help available online either. Airflow is also somewhat of an issue but I don't think there are a lot of options on what they could have done better.

Other Thoughts: I'd probably look for another manufacturer the next time I need a server case. The build quality was disappointing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat server case

Pros: Lots of drive bays, good mounting positions for case fans, rack mountable, accommodates massive 1000 watt power supply, various vibration reducing hardware

Cons: Although this *will* fit in a standard depth rack it's very tight.

Other Thoughts: This houses our high end DVR system and does a great job with it. The biggest complaint is that it's very tight in our TrippLite SRW18US rack. I had to mount it at the very front and remove the handles to get the door to close. Cables in the back do fit but if not careful you could easily block the vent fans with cables.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -fans are quite
-solid case, not flimsy at all
-lots of screws/fasteners

Cons: -does not include rails
-does not include any documentation, even a priintout with directions to a website/pdf would be nice
-only one case fan on the back, two slots

Other Thoughts: good case for custom servers, recommended purchase. i have three in operation.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent rack case

Pros: Lots of room, decent air flow, solid

Cons: Big and Bulky, bu you knew that if your buying a 4U rack case. Fans it comes with are Molex connector.

Other Thoughts: For a Budget rack case, can't beat it. Easily holds my full ATX board with Opteron 12 core and 5 HDD's.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderfull!

Pros: Solid
Simple
Musician's dream. Rack it up with the rest of the gear.

Cons: Not so sure about the front fan
Zero documentation; ordinary for a case.

Other Thoughts: To qualify this review, I am using this case to rack mount a PC in a amp/mixer rack used for music performances. The PC works directly with the digital mixer for control and recording.

A joy to to build. All mounts lined up perfectly. Love the internal racks for mounting drives, HDD and DVD. No contortionist activities to get the screws in place. The beast is solid! Very roadworthy. Appearance is utilitarian. Perfect to impress the nerd fan who just has to snoop at the equipment rack. The tin bezel at the back of the MB for I/O connections didn't fit, but that's half the cases out there, tower or rack. The front fan has yet to come on but I can find no info on the MB to indicate if it is temp controlled or not. In the instance of this build it is not an issue. The PC is running very cool without the front fan. For cost point this case fits the bill perfectly.

2 out of 5 eggsDecent product, TERRIBLE/NON-EXISTENT customer service

Pros: Solid, roomy, holds a BUNCH of drives, locking mechanism works as a latch even without the key

Cons: Not all parts were included (rackmount ears were missing) and ABYSMAL customer support means you can't get them after the fact! No response whatsoever to my last 3 emails!

Other Thoughts: No way I'll buy another Ark Tech case!

4 out of 5 eggsNo problems yet

Pros: Fits what it needs to. Accepted an old Dell P4 mobo with ease. Sturdy construction, solid and stable. Haven't noticed any burrs, although a few edges were rather sharp.

Cons: Screws are soft. The 5.25 drive bay is rather strange, to remove the empty drive cages, you must remove the modular bay and unscrew (These are very soft), which it isnt a clean fit to pull out, especially with the PSU in there already. The case must be pushed in order to get the tabs to clear the edges.

Other Thoughts: I probably wouldnt recommend this for professional use, but on the home side its not a bad deal as long as you dont intend on modifying it often. I'm using this in a relay rack with my watchguard xtm 550 as a surveillance camera server. Its a cheap setup but once its in production it will never be touched.
