4 out of 5 eggsNORCO RPC-2212

Pros: It does what it is supposed to do. For the price and reviews read I didn't really expect much.

Cons: Spend the money and buy yourself some GOOD replacement fans. After 3 reboots for OS and system setup and a week of service... I could hear the blasted fans through out the everywhere. Sounded like a failed bearing.

Other Thoughts: I had previously purchased NOCTUA NF-R8 fans to have on hand and replaced the 4 chassis fans. Box runs almost silent now other than wind rush/chassis echo. There is ALMOST an issue, depending on the cabling you have, going from HBA to disk backplane. I had to form the cables to fit around the fans so they would seat properly but short of that and the above mentioned fan issue I'd recommend this chassis.

5 out of 5 eggsNice case for a home NAS

Pros: -12 hot swap bays
Plenty of room in the back section for your motherboard, -CPU, add in cards, and power supply
-Fans are reasonably quiet, yet move quite a bit of air
-Fans all wired together and have only 1 plug
-Sturdy construction
-I ordered it the day before a price hike
-LEDs bright enough to see, but not so bright that they illuminate the whole room

Cons: -Not too much room between the backplanes and fans for routing of cables. Everything fits, but it's a bit tight
-Wires to the fans seem a bit thin

Other Thoughts: If you're going to use this case with regular SATA connections from your motherboard/add in card, be sure to get a REVERSE SAS/SATA breakout cable. Looks just like a regular breakout cable, but is wired differently. A regular breakout cable will not work. Norco sells just the product you need, S-CFF8087-4S. Newegg was nice enough to take back the cables I incorrectly ordered, but it cost me return shipping, shipping for the right cables, and at least a week. Learn from my mistake!

I currently have 6 WD Red drives installed. I got this case with the future in mind - I can expand with 6 more disks when it gets full.

4 out of 5 eggsNorco RPC-2212

Pros: Sturdy construction
plenty of room for motherboards
easy diskdrive replacement

Cons: There was absolutly no documentation. Nothing on the website either. Fan tray was installed backwards and caused allot of stress on SAS cables. This was resolved by removing the tray and flipping it over. This in turn casued an issue with routing the power cables as the opening for them is on the other side of the case. May need to resolve this issue by removing one of the fans and cutting out the grill to pass these cables(6 molex). There are no tach's on any of the fans so a failure would be undetected till possibly to late. There are switches on the SAS backplanes and connectors that seem to have no documentation...Seriously what are they?

Other Thoughts: This is a great case if you are confident in what you are doing. Changing the case a bit isnt neccesary but it does help to improve the cable routing, cooling, and reliability.

1 out of 5 eggsunbelievable

Pros: cheap
12 bays
sas connectors
sturdy construction

Cons: backplane shorts
non standary power supply mounting

Other Thoughts: I spent almost 2 months trying to trouble shoot a system built on this chassis. As it turns out the chassis seems to short out on drive inserted removed. Furthermore, it seems that vibration can also cause this short on the first drive bay of rows 1,2 or 3.
BTW, I have been working with systems for the past 12 years and I have never encountered anything like this on a brand new system. I would never recommend a norca case again!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Norco Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsGreat price for product

Pros: Great case for the price you pay. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about with the fan noise.. This is built to be a server chassis, not a PC to put on your desk and expect to be quiet.. However I have it in the same rack located in my office and the fan noise is pretty quiet. I have a cisco 3508XL that has more fan noise than all the fans in this case. Easy backplane connections to power and controller card.. Again not sure what other reviewers are talking about with weak connections (maybe a newer revision??)

Fans are removed very quickly to create a little more room to connecto the backplane, and snap in quickly. Fans can be hot-swapped without issue.

Drive trays, although very thin contruction hold up very well once a disk is mounted, and very easily seats in place.

multitude of mounting screws and hardware included. MB installed very quickly and easily.

Cons: Unable to use the far expansion slot as the screw is covered up by the case side contruction. not a huge deal, but could be if you need all expansion slots on your server. hence -1 egg.

blue disk activty LED is quite dim and hard to see unless looking right at the case, however I used a small piece of heatshrink over the LED to "direct" the light, now it's nice and bright. (have to remove backplane to do this...

Other Thoughts: if your looking for a well built, low cost chassis for mutiple disks, this is a great case.. If you expect to get supermicro quality for this price your going to be dissapointed. however you cannot go wrong with this case if your budget is limited.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks..

Pros: 12xSATA III hot swap. 3 backplanes. Top, middle bottom. Alot of different screws and brackets for mounting just about anything.

Cons: Not much space between backplanes and fans, but there is alot of stuff that needs to be cramed in that space, and fit a large motherboard too, so can't expect to much more.

Other Thoughts: Have used Norco in the past. Still everything uses screws/rivots. No quick locks or anything. A screwless top cover would be nice. Has some sharp edges, whish they would file stuff down more. Remeber its a 2U server so you need low height PCI cards. No instructions or manual, but hey, if your smart enough to build a server, you should be able to figure it out. Not difficult at all.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Server Case...looks good

Pros: I purchased this case to be my ESXi 4.1 server. The case is well built, using a Supermicro ATX motherboard and works well. Its been about mouth now and I'm very happy.

Cons: No documentation so buyer beware.

Other Thoughts: I puchased a quite 2U 600W power supply and plan on replacing the 4x80mm fan for quite one's. I'm not expecting it to be too quite since it is a server.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Value

Pros: Easy to configure, takes many motherboards, nice to work with. Looks good in the rack.

Cons: The connector cables are a little confusing, but if you look for the deal with connector cables you can find the right cable.

Other Thoughts: Took an old motherboard and quickly and easily set up a Debian based storage device. I set mine up with an Intel SASUC8I PCI-Express x8 SATA / SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) Controller Card and between the controller and the motherboard I had more than 12 ports.

I am really happy with this purchase.
