5 out of 5 eggsA caveman could use it

Pros: It works. Recognized 4 separate [IDE] drives...2 were W98 and 2 were W98SE. Copied pictures & files to a computer running W2000. Did not have to install software that came with the hardware. 2 of the drives were system drives & 2 were backup drives. Will try copying to Windows 7 when I get a chance. Now I have 2 old gutted Dells that are going to the recycle center. I'm impressed.

Cons: No cons at this point.. The USB cable is a little short, but it is not a serious hindrance.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Immediately recogized by Windows 7 (no need to install drivers).

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Used for file transfer from old PATA drives to new PCs without PATA socket on mobo.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked on Vista out of box

Pros: I connected a Seagate 7200.10 80 Gig drive to my Vista computer and it popped right up. I had that hard drive set up with two partitions and both appeared as separate drives in my Vista Windows Explorer. Everything was right there immediately. No drivers were loaded or anything. I was very pleased with it then, and expect that will hold up reasonably well. All of the connections are snug.

Cons: Nothing wrong with the device that I've seen so far.

Other Thoughts: The documentation is sparse, to say the least. As it happens, I really didn't need any. But when I tried to view the PDF manual on the CD, Adobe Reader needed to install something for Chinese characters for the document. I said to ignore that since I couldn't read Chinese anyway. Well, duh! Most of the pages weren't visible, however. But once I updated AR like I should have done the first time around, I was able to read everything. I found nothing that was of any use, however, so I just made the connection and everything worked as advertised.

Here's the rub: I was checking for manufacturer information (an updated manual or drivers perhaps) on their device, but I couldn't find the first mention of this particular device on the manufacturer's web site.

Hopefully I won't ever need support, but go figure!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Plane and simple it works!
Allowed me to recover data off of about 20 old drives ranging from 128mb to 120gb.

Cons: Not hot swapable but to be expected. Each drive required a reboot for windows 7 rc1 to recognize the drive.

Other Thoughts: Very handy.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It does what it says.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Works great, but seriously, who needs a PCI to IDE adapter now? Everything is SATA. I just got one to try to get some data off a dead hard drive after swapping boards with a working hard drive. Didn't work so I have no use for it now.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job, with a problem

Pros: It does what it is supposed to do, but there is a problem: the power connector does not fit correctly into the power transformer/block so it falls out easily.

Cons: The quality control on the power connector is poor, but it still works.

The USB cable is only about 8 or 9 inches long - it barely reaches the USB port from the top of my Dell Dimension.

Other Thoughts: Good packaging, works out of the box on Windows XP.

5 out of 5 eggsworks like a charm

Pros: works well for formating old hard drives and transfering large data files to and from computers.

Cons: none as of yet

Other Thoughts: will be interesting to see how long the power supply lasts....runs kinda warm compared to my laptop power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsworks

Pros: works perfectly, needs no drivers, able to boot from it on ASUS mother boards.

Cons: After about an hour or so from when I turned off the computer and un-plugged the USB cable, I couldn't open the try. I had to un-plug the power and plug back in again. Maybe some kind of sleep mode? Either way, I didn't even expect to get a free power cable so if it is defective I don't care. I was originally going to use a PSU I have mounted to my work bench.

Other Thoughts: cable could be longer, LED indicator on the IDE end of the adapter would be nice.
