4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to install, works well

Cons: I'm not sure if it's a Driver or Win7 problem, but for the first few weeks it insisted on using the second monitor as my "primary", and vice versa. Then, a couple of weeks ago, it magically started working as prescribed (i.e., the monitor that actually sits in front of me is now my primary display, and the one on its side is the secondary). Other than that, this little box rocks, especially for the price. Well worth it if you have a spare monitor.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The quality is amazing for static images, crisp and clear. It was super easy to install and the $30 price tag was pretty good.

Unfortunately, whenever there was moving imagery on the screen, pixelation/artifacts appeared. It's as if the adapter couldn't handle all of that visual information quickly enough. I wasn't happy, the videos were looking better on the computer screen than they did on my LCD TV using the HDMI adapter. Had to return the adapter, sorry.

Cons: Adapter couldn't handle fast moving images/video. The quality degraded the faster things moved onscreen.

Other Thoughts: Next thing I'm trying out is an actual internal PC video card with an HDMI connection.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Fast/simple driver install from cd. Great resolution. Got this for my daughter's D630. Runs dvds, online videos. Wide screen and great sound. Haven't tried gaming. She and her friends will let me know if/when she does, but she isn't a hard core gamer. Wanted something to connect with 1080 42" tv.
Dell D630 win7 ultimate 32 bit

Cons: none really. Instructions claim an HDMI cable is included, but NewEgg clearly shows that it is not. At some point Rosewill stopped including cable and didn't update instructions. Make sure you have a spare.

Other Thoughts: This is an inexpensive way to keep my laptop out of my daughter's hands! Bought a second one for another daughter.

4 out of 5 eggsCapable for the price

Pros: Used on a MacBook running OS X, works well for a dual external monitor setup. Seen fairly readily by VMWare Fusion as well. Much less expensive than other options that create a single device from two monitors.

Works well with low-refresh uses. If you have a mostly static window, this works great.

Cons: As others have noticed, you're not watching video on any seriously sized monitor over this thing. Refresh rate is like playing Doom 4 on a PowerPC. Any seriously detailed image will suffer serious lag.

So great for stuff like email, maybe IM, or, for me, a browser holding the page I'm coding. Not good for anything constantly moving or giving you feedback you need to see in real time. Maybe similar devices using USB 3.0 will solve this, but this one ain't it.

Other Thoughts: For the price, it's a great way to add a second external monitor to a 13" MacBook, which only supports one via hardware. Very inexpensive, and a great real estate extension for low refresh windows.

3 out of 5 eggsOverscan issue

Pros: Cheap and uses Win7 downloadable drivers so no need for CD.
Blue LED versus green or yellow.

Cons: Over scans on every TV I have tried it with and while driver provides sizing adjustments they are not fine enough to work. My Lenovo USB/DVI one does not have this issue even when using DVI to HDMI cable.
Will try with a monitor and see if it is only on TV's.

Other Thoughts: Nice but not for intended purpose. Samsung 40" 120hz and 32" 60hz, and another I am not sure of the brand.

5 out of 5 eggsThis Works Great

Pros: I was apprehensive about buying this because I had problems getting HDMI and extended displays (2) working with a mother board with integrated video and HDMI.

But this converter installed and works flawlessly. Easy install of drivers, and the main monitor and wide screen HDMI TV both were detected and proper resolution set.

I never did get the computer I first mentioned to work properly, with different resolutions on the two displays, and an extended not duplicated setup. This converter did both, automatically in less than 10 minutes.

Cons: None so far. Maybe price if it hadn't been for $20 off Newegg special.

2 out of 5 eggsProduct Fail

Pros: o The drivers installed with ease.
o Although did not work for my intended use, will work OK as a normal graphics card to run a monitor from a desktop.

Cons: o Laptop would not boot up with Adapter attached.
o Slingbox would transfer OK from laptop to TV, but video would freeze unless kept mouse clicked on program command line.
o NewEgg's price on this product 25% > than competitors' - this was tremendous disappointment. Had grown accustomed to NewEgg being best price. After purchase, saw this product priced significantly less at multiple other sources.

Other Thoughts: Adapter used from Gateway P-6301 laptop running Vista operating system to Sharp Aquos LC-42D65U LCD TV (acts as a 2nd Monitor). Goal was to run Slingbox on the TV in minimized mode, while also working on the internet via a Firefox browser on this TV too. Two primary problems. Laptop would not boot with this adapter attached. Had to unhook the adapter, boot the laptop, then hook the adapter back up to the laptop after full boot. And the Slingbox program would not operate properly. While clicking on the command line, the video would operate normally. But once clicking anywhere else on screen, the video froze. The problem is with this adapter, because this program worked via a VGA cable. But with VGA solution, sound came from the laptop instead of the TV. Had hoped to use this adapter to get both video and sound on the TV. With this adapter, Audio came from TV, but video was a FAIL. Biggest disappointment? After purchase, discovered that NewEgg's price is not competitive.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Will this only happen if you are using the Slingbox? Will this happen if you have something running off of windows media player? You said that this will happen when you have more than the Slingbox window open, correct? If you only have the Slingbox window open on the TV, will you get the same thing or will it work properly? As a test, are you able to connect this unit to a desktop to see if you get a different result? Please contact the Rosewill support team either via phone at 800-575-9885 or via email at techsupport@rosewill.com so that we can assist you with your issue.
Thanks,

4 out of 5 eggsMore life for older laptop

Pros: Adds hdmi option to laptop without hdmi port.
Extra dispaly / positioning options from taskbar icon without having to dig into your CP or windows display controls.

Cons: Manual does not specify standard or (extra) power usb port. Also not realy a con but the CD drivers are out of date, when are they not these days.

Other Thoughts: Not exactly plug and play, but this device will keep an older latitude d820 rolling. Hey, they were expensive tanks in `07. Hooked up to a 37" media plays great, powerpoint & other documents show well. Didn't see this device as a way to play games being the laptop isn't designed for them. But it does help. Remember, USB 2.0 has limitations. Something else to cram into your laptop bag but it's not like you can swap out your video card on a laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsMuch better than I expected

Pros: Really eliminated a need for a new monitor or computer; I now routinely use my HD TV directly with my Laptop. Price is great, i may order another and keep one in my laptop case when I travel (for presentations.

Cons: hard to read (tiny) user's manual
