5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Adapter

Pros: USB 3.0
3TB Drives (at least)
SATA or IDE
Not many parts.

Cons: Limited specs, unsure of maximum drive size.
Must switch manually between SATA and IDE

Other Thoughts: Bought this to use for running occasional backups onto bare drives. It is also useful for wiping or recovering data from old drives. It supports USB 3.0. Worked well with a 3TB WD SATA III drive. Specs don't mention a maximum drive size. I bought this to replace a similar USB 2 device. Unlike that device there are only three parts to this - the power unit, the drive cord and a small SATA cord. The drive cord has a switch to manually switch between SATA and IDE. Don't forget to check it before connecting. The power unit has an on-off switch on the cord. This is a nice feature, allowing you to make all connections before powering up the drive. All in all, this does everything I wanted well and doesn't have any real drawbacks.

2 out of 5 eggsGood, but missing key feature

Pros: Has removable IDE and SATA cables (though IDE cable is female to male rather than standard female to female).
Power switch. The power switch is handier than you may think. It does matter what order you connect the cables in for some devices and it's much easier when you don't have to unplug and re-plug the power cable.

Cons: **Be warned!** This device does not support retrieval of SMART data. I ran a lot of diagnostics on it and tried to turn SMART "on," but the device simply doesn't support it. For me, this is a huge drawback. If I want to find out whether one of my old IDE drives is still usable, I don't want to pull out an old PC to test it. That's WHY I bought THIS ADAPTER.

USB cable is not removable. SATA controller isn't fast enough to make inclusion of USB 3.0 really worth it.

Other Thoughts: I would not buy this product again. Without the ability to check SMART data, this device is only half as useful. Price is also too high for the poor quality/performance of the hard drive controller.

5 out of 5 eggsIs good

Pros: At the time this one was of the only options for SATA to USB adapter that was USB 3.0. I had to replace the USB 2.0 one I had since the connector shield broke and wouldn't hold SATA cables in place. WIth this one it just plugs directly into the case and doesn't sit on top of it so there is no chance it will break in the same way my previous one did.

It works excellently and is made of a harder plastic than the one I replaced. It runs at full USB 3.0 speed and I haven't had any problems with it. It has 3 connectors; SATA, IDE, and the smaller EIDE for laptop/2.5" drives.

Cons: The only down side is that there is a switch that toggles from IDE to SATA interface. The one I replaced did not have this and allowed you to plug a different harddrive into each port. With the design on this one you can only run either or. Its been awihle since I've actually had to do that but I can't say Ive never had to do that before. If this is critical to you then you can just buy more adapters. It will work better than way in the long run.

Other Thoughts: Its Rosewill and not some random manufacturer you've never heard of before.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is an amazing little product. I have used it to repair computers and recover data unavailable by any other method. USB 3.0 makes file transfer fast. Never had it fail to read a drive, even some 15 year old drives.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Connect the power first. When the drive spins up, then plug into USB. Works every time.

When I first got this, my drives weren't showing up in Explorer and I thought the product was defective. I found out that if you use a lot of different flash drives, your computer assigns and reserves drive letters for these flash drives in case you plug them in again.
For some reason with this device
Win 7 has a hard time assigning drive letters if a few of the lower letters are being reserved for flash drives. So if that happens to you, use a hard drive utility like Paragon and manually assign a drive letter.

1 out of 5 eggsDangerous product--corrupted several hard drives.

Pros: It includes a power cable, and it is usb 3. Rosewill support at Newegg was good and refunded the purchase price of the adapter after the adapter had already cost me several hundred dollars in damages and time.

Cons: This adapter corrupted the filesystem on 4 hard drives before I figured out what was happening. This cost me a lot of time and money, as the drive corrupted a custom hdd image for an industrial machine that I had just paid hundreds of dollars for. When this thing went bad, hard drives connected to it would begin to show every classic sign of disk failure. Connecting the drives directly to a motherboard didn't make the problem disappear, as the filesystem had already been corrupted. This device caused me way more pain than it was worth.

Other Thoughts: No, I would not recommend it. This product is potentially a huge liability. I will never buy this again, or anything by Rosewill that is similar to it. It's just not worth the risk. I have lost all faith in it, and there are plenty of other options available here on Newegg. Rosewill support went out of their way to give me a refund outside of the normal return policy, so that was cool. Because of the good support, I may buy other products from Rosewill in the future, as long as they have no possibility of corrupting hdd's.

4 out of 5 eggsA DECENT EGG!

Pros: Great to transfer files, pics, etc.. from your old IDE 40 pin Hard Drives. Once you get you get it all hooked up, worked FLAWLESSLY. Not breaking any speed records BUT PRETTY FAST ON A USB 3.0!!!!

Cons: NONE THAT WAS NOT EXPECTED

Other Thoughts: Just a good all around utility to have lying around!!!

5 out of 5 eggsHope THIS helps!!!

Pros: I have similar devices made by different companies that are ONLY USB 2.0. that I have owned for OVER a year and I use it constantly without any problems. In all honesty, they have saved my bacon on numerous occasions!!! I have been considering getting on of these devices in USB 3.0 but was unable to find anyone who makes them, NOW I have!

The ones I use work on IDE 2.5", 3.5" HD's as well as IDE CD/DVD Drives and SATA Drives as well. Like I said I've never had any problems.

One thing that I have found with the devices that I have, is that whenever you hook up an IDE Drive OR a IDE CD/DVD Drive, it MUST be set to SLAVE while some other adapters require that they be set as MASTER.

IF you are having problems with your IDE Drives you might try this solution to see IF it works or not. It's just a suggestion and I hope it helps!!!

Cons: Other than the fact that I have to switch the settings to either MASTER OR SLAVE than I have none of any major concern!

Other Thoughts: I have similar devices made by different companies that are ONLY USB 2.0. that I have owned for OVER a year and I use it constantly without any problems. In all honesty, they have saved my bacon on numerous occasions!!!

Now the only thing I'm waiting to see is WHEN someone comes up with a device that does IDE HD's and CD/DVD Drives as well as SATA HD's and CD/DVD Drives and has a built-in Multi-Purpose Memory Card Reader built-in...

And it MUST work at USB 3.0 speeds as well...

Now THAT I would buy in a heartbeat!!!
