Great for any repair bench
- Pros: I have been using this @ work for 2 years now. Fantastic. Buy this thing. IDE channels are fast going away on modern systems. My Dell Dimension e521 Has none. This is a really great product. Use a jumper for Optical drives.
Most drives work if set to Master.
- Cons: No Hardshell case like others have. That's why this one is cheap. It was $39 a few years ago!
- Other Thoughts: GET this now while it's cheap!
works well for back up drives
- Pros: It is small and hardly adds anything to the hard drive. Works well for the most part. Great for converting old ide external hard drive cases to sata.
- Cons: It advertised that it could break the 128 gb limit on older computers. I tried using one of these items on a 160 gb sata drive and installed in a iMac G3 to see if it was true. It booted up and the usual Apple appeared, but that was it for 15 minutes until I turned off the computer. Apparently does not work when used for the main drive.
- Other Thoughts: I originally bought one to see if I could convert a ide external hard drive case to sata and it did it with only the occasional hick up of a 1 or 2 second delay now and then. Bought two more to experiment with some old macs I have to break the 128 gb limit on them. I first tried jumper 1-3, and no jumper for master did not work at all then jumper at cs 2-4 to finally get it to show the grey apple, but nothing after that . If any one has an idea on how to make it work let me know.
This is an update to my first review I posted in September.
- Pros: Does what it says.
- Cons: You might need a jumper. Like someone kindly said in a review just before mine, you might need to put a jumper on the board itself, as well as your drive. There are two pairs of jumpers on the board, each pair runs parallel in the same direction as the IDE pins, or perpendicular with the SATA output. You're gonna want to jump the pair furthest from the IDE pins. That's R2, and some are poorly molded like mine and you're gonna have to cut that excess to see it, if you're a sceptic. Much thanks to whoever posted that knowledge, I figured I'd return the favor be explaining a little more in depth after scratching my head on this for a few days before returning to this site and reading reviews for answers.
