4 out of 5 eggsDoes it's job.

Pros: It converted my old IDE drive to SATA.

Cons: There are a lot of cables, it also sticks out quiet a bit so make sure you have room in your case.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: Works fine.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Installed on an IDE CD drive. Hint: needed to make the CD drive "cable select" f or it to work. This is probably known to most, but it took me a while to figure this out.

4 out of 5 eggsTurbo charge DOS!

Pros: * Easy to install
* DIP switches for CS-EL/Master/Slave
* Great way to add SSD SATA to IDE
* Cheap

Cons: * Flimsy floppy-to-molex adapter.

Other Thoughts: Recently, I got some 64GB SSDs for free from someone who upgraded their machine and thought it would be a good chance to try adding them to an Ultra66 PCI Controller card in an older DOS machine I kept around for playing Demos, Doom, Quake and other goodies.

Just plug it in, and off you go. Level loads in these older games under DOS are almost instantaneous and you don't even need to load SMARTDRV!

Only gripes I had with the SATA-to-IDE adapter is in Windows 98 (triple-boot config) the drive would always show up as being in MS-DOS compatibility mode. Loading Windows XP the OS would sit there at the boot screen and never start. Oh well, I have a few other DOS only machines these could go in paired with the PCI UltraATA controllers and really make it fly!

Final gripe was the floppy-to-molex adapter is kinda flimsy. Make sure you seat it tightly.

Overall, worked great for cheaply turbo charging some old machines.

3 out of 5 eggsLacking

Pros: Can connect with this. Item is cheap

Cons: Cannot easily use this device. No way to connect using SATA power.
I wanted to connect an old IDE to SATA but I will have to do much more than expected. I just wanted a connector that converts an IDE drive to SATA connections and this will not do it.

Other Thoughts: Too cheap to return, besides, I had to open it to check it out and Newegg does not accept open returns.

5 out of 5 eggsJust does what you need it to

Pros: Just had an old IDE DVD+RW drive that didn't really need to be replaced. However my new PC build didn't have any IDE ports and I didn't want the thick cables in there anyway.

Cons: Can make cable management tricky with it needing a floppy connector for power.

2 out of 5 eggsWith the adapters provided only works one way

Pros: I don't know yet. I haven't seen it work yet.

Cons: The ad copy says that it will adapt old drives into new PCs and vice versa, but with what comes in the package, it won't. The supplied power supply adapter will adapt old Molex to that little SATA thing that powers this device -- but if your computer has that little thing or the 15-pin thing, you have no way to power the drive or burner/player device itself. You have to buy another adapter to do that. Probably there are many people here who wouldn't get caught on that but I did.

Other Thoughts: This, by itself, will let you put new drives in old PCs. It will not let you put old drives in new PCs. You need to buy another adapter in addition to do that.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We are sorry for the inconvenience that this device has caused you.

Yes, you will need to power both the adapter and drive that you connect to this device.

The included 4-pin to Molex connector that is included with this device should help any new system add in older drives.

Please ensure that your power supply unit can accommodate both the adapter and drive.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works.. once you figure it out

Pros: Adapter works as it's supposed to with no problems.

Cons: Only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because of the lack of instruction in the manual. Had gotten the item and had trouble with my computer recognizing the drive. Didn't come to mind that the jumper on the drive had to be set to cable select or that there were switches on the actual adapter until after I had gotten a new SATA HDD (had a "D'oh!" moment).

Other Thoughts: Would be loads better with a more complete manual, especially for those who aren't as versed in computer hardware.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize about the state of the current manual.

Please note that our website does list troubleshooting options for this device on how to install and cinfigure the adapter.

Note that a new manual for this device will be posted and, available on our website this month.
