5 out of 5 eggsPlug and Go

Pros: I bought this adapter to connect a wireless antenna to my computer so I can connect to our sign in front of our building. I just plugged it in and didn't have to do anything. The quality is good, there is nothing that feels cheap about it.

Cons: None right now.

5 out of 5 eggsCompatible, Reliable

Pros: Windows 7 32 and 64-bit compatible, personally tested. Used PuTTY with Windows. Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.8 compatible, personally tested. Used "zoc6" for Mac interface app.

Cons: Drivers on disc should be avoided

Other Thoughts: DO NOT GO TO SYBA's site for drivers. The chipset used inside is made by Prolific, so go to Prolific's site and download the drivers for the PL2303 chipset.

Those who posted feedback regarding it not working with their Win 7 are most likely not taking full effort to track down the proper drivers and can safely be ignored.

1 out of 5 eggsPlain Garbage and Syba willl not replace

Pros: None

Cons: I bought 10 of these. When I could not get the one I opened to work, I took them off my shelves not to deal with Upset customers. Not every customer is up to date with computers and still have older ones. So I come back here to see if anyone has a fix. Read ll the complaints

Other Thoughts: Syba has posted on this about RMA forms online, we will take care of it, so I contacted them to have the 9 Sealed new units replaced. Here is their response to me

Dear Scott,

We can't preform the action requested. Those cases on Newegg are still under warranty, and are out of stock. We apologize for any hindrance this may have caused.

Thank you.

They said because they are out of warranty. They are in sealed packages. They know they have a problem. Same product, what would it matter sealed if it was out of warranty, clearly know they do not work, without the updated software,/drivers, which they would not offer.

They do not look out of stock to me. Read how they have said they would replace for customer as late as June 2012. Off to other sites to post same. BUYER BEWARE.

2 out of 5 eggs!!!drivers are bad!!!

Pros: cheap

Cons: bad drivers. drivers on the disk may or may not work. drivers you download elsewhere may or may not work. got it working with 32 bit xp, never did get it working with 64 bit 7.

Other Thoughts: spend a little more and get another brand. prolific, the company that makes the chips for these devices recommends a couple brands of adapters on their site.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

The driver should work fine with Windows 7 32-bit. Windows 64-bit is not supported at this time.

Serial is an old technology, and the Serial devices customers try to use with this adapter range from scanner, mouse, and modem. Many of the old Serial devices and its own software/driver are not supported by new Windows OS. Many of the old Serial devices were designed for DOS, and will not function anymore with a Windows based system.

We recommend customer to contact SYBA for support if their Serial device won't connect.

There might be work around, or update on motherboard firmware we can suggest.

Our technical support team is available to help 9am-5pm M-F. Feel free to contact us during those business hours at support@sybausa.com

We are more than happy to provide all of our customers with a prompt exchange whenever a product becomes defective.

SYBA offers an on-line RMA form, the user can easily fill out the form and submit it for a quick RMA return and exchange. It is SYBA's policy to answer all customer inquiries within 24 hours (M-F)

3 out of 5 eggsNot Win7 x64 Compatible

Pros: If you are running XP or earlier, this will work for you.
Cable is longer than others I have used.

Cons: Not compatible with Win7 x64.
Can't screw together the adapter to a cable because the barrels aren't long enough.

Other Thoughts: Syba's website says this is Win 7 compatible, but doesn't specify x86 or x64.

3 out of 5 eggsSYBA Drivers dont work

Pros: Easy to use (ONCE FINALLY INSTALLED)

Cons: Bad driver support.
Bad tech support from both SYBA and Prolific.

Other Thoughts: So i purchased this cable to be able to connect to my Cisco Home lab since my laptop does not have a SERIAL port.

I was unable to get the cable working. It would show status code 10 no matter what i tried and on what PC i tried (Win XP, Vist or Win 7).

I returned the item to Newegg and they sent me a replacement. I received my replacement yesterday and when i tried it today.... SAME problem.... I started a new RMA and went shopping for a new one but wanted to make sure it was not one with Prolific chips. I went to Sabrent to make sure theirs did not have Prolific chips but they do. They only diffrens is they dont have just 1 installer.

I tried Windows\Driver for Win7 32bits\PL2303_Prolific_Vista_332102.exe and now it works... No more status code 10.

So for those having the same issue try to download the Sabrent drivers from: http://sabrent.com/drivers/SBT-USCx/Windows.zip.
Extract the zip file then go to Windows\Driver for Win7 32bits and open PL2303_Prolific_Vista_332102.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of JUNK!

Pros: A simple cable with a chip in the adapter. Looks like it would work, but...

Cons: It doesn't work. Tried on multiple computers, OSes, and drivers, and would not work! Does not work on Mac OS X, Ubuntu, XP, Win 7... ANYTHING!

Other Thoughts: I needed this fast, and needed it to work. I paid extra for 2-day shipping and rush processing. That totaled over thirty dollars. Now, I am only getting FIVE DOLLARS back after a restocking fee since this thing is a piece of JUNK!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for purchasing our Syba products. This cable only support RS232 serial interface. Please make sure your device is using RS232 serial interface. We always try to provide the most reliable products to our customers and all products come with at least 1-year warranty. So please don't hesitate to contact us at support@sybausa.com for replacement or question.
