Yes, but this is for a SATA connection not a PCIe slot on a desktop computer.  Think of this as an adapter to replace a laptop hard drive, if your laptop doesn't have an M.2 connection.

Question 3

One review says that this DOES NOTE WORK in a USB-powered enclosure.   Is that correct?   If so, what kind of enclosures is everyone else who purchased this adapter using or would recommend?

I'm actually using this as an internal drive on my desktop. The adapter works great in my hot-swap bays with a Crucial M4 256GB mSATA SSD. I tried this adapter in a generic 2.5" plastic USB external enclosure I purchased from eBay for $1 which shipped from China. I had no problems with the adapter installed in a external enclosure; I don't see why any other enclosure wouldn't work. My mSATA SSD had been formatted with NTFS in the adapter prior to install it in the external enclosure. Although I don't see why that would make the difference.

If you try to upgrade the firmware will the upgrade software see the drive using this device?
I have a 840EVO that I would like to check/upgrade the firmware on but I use a usb adapter (the only way I currently have) the software will not see the drive to upgrade the firmware.

You will need to connect the drive to the computer with a sata cable. Usually desktops have extra sata ports. External enclosure's usually won't work.
