Proper operating procedures for Hard drive detection
Step 1: Power on the Hard drive (by using the enclosed power adaptor or available 4 pin power supply connector from the PC). Make sure the Hard drive platter spins up, wait for 10 seconds to let it spin at a constant rate.

Step 2: Connect ADT-UPS001 to the Hard drive (use extended IDE or SATA connector cable if necessary).

Step 3: Connect Type A USB connector to PC and Mini USB 2.0 connector to ADT-UPS001. Verify the light status, make sure power light is on (PW).

Users have to follow step 1 to step 3. Make sure Step3 is final one. If you don’t follow the procedures, you will fail to make USB2.0 connector work.

The OS should now detect the newly connected devices, additional drive letter(s) will show up (unless the HDD needs to be partitioned for the very first time).

3 out of 5 eggsIDE / SATA to USB 2.0

Pros: For the price this little gadget still works. I just finished using it today for an old c / d drive (they were replaced).. reads well and fast... transfers very nicely...

Cons: The power cord is pretty short.. and maybe an on and off switch before pulling the cords ....

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: Cheap and cheap.

Cons: I never was able to get this thing to work. I installed the software that did NOT come with it (I had to hunt down the software online) and no matter what hard drive I plugged in to the thing it never did more than occasionally flash some lights and barely get recognized by my PC.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy!

Pros: If they worked the design would be nice for some drive copying situations.

Cons: Doesn't work. I have tried it on several drives and it has worked a total of once on one drive which was it and only on an IDE drive. Anything else you can plan to get something better for the same price but I was in a huge rush and had to recover the data for someone ASAP with this at a local shop. Now I wish they had a different one that would actually have worked.

Other Thoughts: Save the money, fustration and get something that will work.

1 out of 5 eggsMassCool MassSucks

Pros: none

Cons: SATA Connector doesn't even work. Ordered Twice same problem!

Other Thoughts: I've been an Computer technician for over 12 years, I already own another one of these devices but it was a previous revision. This new one is absolutely terrible. I ordered this product twice and both times the sata connector did not work. I know it was not the hard drive because the previous masscool adapter that I own worked fine once I immediately plugged it in to test it. This is how I know that this newer revision is faulty and not just some mistake that I made. Come on Masscool, get your products working before you release them! A big thank you to Newegg however for re-reimbursing my credit so I can finally just order a different brand. It's really great to know that Newegg at least has my back. I'm through with MassCool products though!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works on everything from 2.5" IDE, desktop IDE, and SATA. Never had a problem, used it on probably 40-50 hdds ranging from 700mb to 1tb.

Cons: If you don't have a HDD plugged into it when you plug it into your computer it will try to install a generic driver that is never used.

Other Thoughts: Will be continuing to use this until IDE and SATA are no longer used.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks great about 10 times

Pros: It worked great on about 7 drives, I've used it on everything except 2.5'' SATA.

Cons: Total piece of garbage now. All drives now show as uninitialized. Seems like a common problem, so it must be junk. Only consider it if you really need to get something off an IDE drive once or twice, otherwise there are better SATA options out there.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks But..

Pros: Good when first used it. Used it to copy file from a HD to computer it work for the first two try. The third try now won't recognized HD anymore. Lucky I had a BYTECC next me and tested with that recognized HD and copy with no problem. Come with a small CD and a button on the unit that are useless to me.

Cons: Pretty Pricey Princess!!

Other Thoughts: Quality look cheap and smell like burnt IC when first opened box. Lucky Newegg really understand and RMA it with ease. I would get BYTECC if I were you.

1 out of 5 eggsNot working so far

Pros: Has adapters for 2.5 IDE, 3.5 IDE and SATA

Cons: I bought mine from a a local business, out the box everything turned on fine, plugged in the drive and nothing. The computer recognizes a USB device but thats it, the drive is getting power off of the adapter but nothing else. I looked at the instructions which is minimal, they were no help, looked for driver software, none exist that I could find, I have tried calling the text support twice and it will not let you remain on hold, you have to either leave a message or go back to the operator, I have left 2 messages and the haven't called me back.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if I have a defective product or what, my suggesting is buy from another company. Not Masscool.
